Totoo ba 'to?
Nikon's F-mount is undisputed pag dating sa lens compatibility. kahit 70's lens ng Nikon isalpak mo sa D40 swak na swak. What your friend is referring to ay yung AF ng Nikon D40, dahil walang internal motor ang D40, D40x & D60. solution -> get a lens that has an AF motor. OR, save a good 10k and get a D90.

thanks guys for all the answers, im down to these:
-canon eos 1000d or 450d
-nikon d60

im leaning towards canon because i got used to my digicam's 230,000 pixel resolution lcd screen, yung sa d60 kasi low resolution yung screen (screen lang hindi picture quality)

tanong lang sa mga pros or sa mga meron ng eos 1000d or 450d, ano mai differences ng dalawa? so far ang alam ko screen size lang, fps speed pati af points.

thanks for everybody's input. sorry kung taglish :-D

If you're just starting out, get a D40. Why? It's userfriendly and you have the option to simplify things out. There is also an on-screen graphical representation on what's happening to the camera when you adjust the apperture. For me I use it for a day time cam since I'm using strobe the high sync speed of this camera is very useful to beat the sun. Regarding high ISO noise, hmmmm at 1600 there is a visible a little bit annoying grains but even during the film days if you're using ISO400 film you get noise na. So don't be afraid of noise.

D90: it's a really good camera. Equipped with the new processor of Nikon which renders rich and full color and better noise handling at high ISO. I use this as my night camera. The high ISO noise reduction is very useful when you're in an auditorium and the use of flash is prohibited. It has a built in AF motor unlike the D40 which doesn't have. Compatible with non AFS lenses. If budget is not a problem go with this camera.

I prefer Nikon over Canon camera. I really don't like the kit lenses of Canon. Even though Canon lenses are cheaper, the prices of Nikkor lenses are justified by the quality and durability. That's is why there is a Nikon to Canon lens adapter(I haven't seen Canon to Nikon adapter).

Read reviews and check out youtube. Hope it helps.

if you're going for a Canon DSLR, get a 40D or a 50D. for entry-level/low-end DSLR, get a Nikon.

^i'm a man of few words, pero sige explain ko.
if my budget is only fit for an entry-level DSLR, i'd pick a Nikon D40/D40x/D60 dahil madaling gamitin at panalo yung kitlens nya.
ngayon, kung pwede pang itulak ng konti yung budget, I'd get a Canon 40D. Mura nalang sya nayon dahil napalitan na ng 50D(na ok rin). maganda ang ISO handling ng 40D at very effective talaga sa low-light photography. kung same budget at gusto mo ng Nikon, get a D90. It has the same sensor as the very panalo D300, adn produces vibrant colors.

mga katanungan:
1. magkano ang budget mo?
2. anong tipo ng photography ang gusto mong pasukin? landscape? portrait/fashion? wildlife? sports? street? events/shows/concerts? crime-scene?  :-D

awesome :-D budget ko 40-50k, i shoot/probably would shoot events like gigs, shows, and maybe some landscape too when i go to places with awesome scenes.

top choice ko sa ngayon yung nikon d5000, same sensor din ng d90/d300 + new features (mostly flashy but essentially pointless )
nag price cut kasi yung nikon sa d5000, so at least $100 lower na siya
still haven't fully decided though, im taking my time, buying at december  (people are expecting more price cuts, lalo na sa canon lalabas yung bagong eos d7)

bro, for a 40-50k budget forget entry levels like D60, D5000 or its canon counterpart. get a camera body with an autofocus motor (30D, 40D, 50D or higher for canon, & D80, D90, D300 or higher for nikon).

for a 40-50k bufget, id go for a nikon d80 + tamron 17-50 2.8 and siguro a cheap flash. wide enough for landscape, long enough for portraits and fast enough for night events such as gigs

For me it would be the Nikon D90... it's user friendly and the kit lens is superb! I once tried using my friend's D90 (at a practice shoot) ayun... hindi ko na nagamit ung DSLR ko, I enjoyed using the D90.  8-)
