How Far Should I Go on Post Processing?
« on: July 26, 2011, 01:38:58 AM »
newbie question mga tol, di kasi ako fan ng post processing.. at lagi kong kuha ay in Jpeg.. di ko nga alam ang silbi ng raw(nagbasa ako sa net, medyo nagkaidea naman ng konti) pero ang tanung ko talaga, "how far should i go on post processing? para maconsider parin siya as photograph than a digitaly enhanced art?" gets niyo ba? (color balance, sharpness, curves etc? hanggang san ang pwedeng i-tweak pero masasabi parin siyang "decent picture" than photoshopped? sana naintindihan nyo yung tanung? hehe..

parang alam mo na rin sagot mo sa tanong tsong, less enhancement from the pic using PP software imo mas ok. like hdr hindi ako masyado fan ng hdr halata mo pp tlaga sya pero yun ang type ng iba, kanya2 type lang yan..
if you can get it right directly from camera. mas ok. pero some proffessional still enhance it, pero minor tweaks lang, pero dapat knowledgable ka din sa mag pp sofware

oo medyo may idea na ako, minsan kasi pag submission ng photos(i.e. contests, projects etc.) sinasabi okay lang i enhance thru post-processing.. pero walang exact range kung hanggang saan.. pero sige okay na rin.. as long as hindi na alter ng malaki yung picture diba?

importante properly exposed yung pic mo. RAW options give you lots of flexibility in pp compared sa jpeg.

This. Why not try and practice getting the right exposure sa camera palang?

For me...

I always try to get the correct settings sa camera hangang kaya but there are times na di mo kayang makuha due to some reasons (kulang sa natural lights, equipments, etc) and dito malaki matutulong ang pp

I usually do basic pp sa lahat ng pics ko as advised my prof. My usual are sharpness, curve and crop (sometimes).

HDR is different, its another type of photography which really needs post processing.

Too much processing can lead to noise. Try to expose right on the cam. :)

exposure and composition should be perfect out of the cam.

the thing is, you shouldn't feel bad about tweaking a lot of stuff during PP. our eyes are capable of a much wider dynamic range than camera sensors. also, color representation varies with different sensors and lenses.

to answer your question, not too much saturation/desaturation and contrast. personally, i try to make the images look cinematic without looking unnatural.

Para sakin din

ginagamit ko ung photoshop para mapalabas ko ung ano ba talaga ung gusto kong picture,....so dapat sa camera palang dapat kuha  mo na ung proper exposure, composition, tsaka pasok din dapat ipost process, indi lang po shoot tapos pagnakita mo eh, sasabihin mo sa sarili mo na "ieedit ko nalang tong di maganda exposure or di bale pophotoshop ko nalang to"

hope this help

Since they cant afford to have another shoot kase madilim yung picture. hindi rin palaging tama ang meter ng camera.

as long as mukha siyang natura?!l.. okay kuha ko na(yata)...

Parang ganito.
I exposed for the highlights tapos pinalabas ko yung shadows sa PP.
Still di pa rin masyadong natural but you get the point.
