Sure is steep next to Raon pricing.

But if I may be a little more inquisitive, how exactly is your restoration process different from Raon work ?

Different substrate ? Different wire type ? Different quality of cones ?

But if I may be a little more inquisitive, how exactly is your restoration process different from Raon work ?

Our workmanship greatly differs compared to raon works.

In the process of rewinding the voice coil.  They cut/slash the misddle part of the cone and the spider to get the voice coil.  In this manner they destroy the cone, spider ang the voice coil.  Second, the way they rewind the voice coil they just put in their recoiling machine and they just roll and roll the wire just like flying a kite without giving attendtionm to the specs of the voice coil (wire gauge, no. turns, layers, coating).  In putting back the coil they don't do centering so usually there's still the "sayad" after they rewind the voice coil.

With regards to foam or rubber edge/surround replacement please see teh excess adhesives on the edge.  They use rubber cement/rugby which melt/destroy layer(s) of the new foam edge.  Rubber cement adhesiveness will not hold long on moving surface.

With regards to the materials used, we used materials with the same specs (voice coil) or if unvailable in the case of edge/suspension, cone, spider we use the closest to the original that we can find in the market.

Lastly, some of our foam, rubber edge/suspension replacement works that will show you if the quality of our work is indeed different from Raon.

Okay. I'm sold. Sold enough to at least try your service.

Yep, I had quite a bad experience with a Raon rewinder. It was singular (most of the work I had done was kinda satisfactory). Humina yung tunog from what is supposed to be a 15 watt speaker. Nasobrahan sya ng winding, giving it a dc resistance that's double the original. Higher impedance, lower current, lower sound level.

And yes, pag sumayad ang voice coil sa cavity nya, you will hear it as a crackle or pop.

Yup guys, the man knows what he's saying. I'm going to try his services on my subwoofer cone.

BTW, I live at Paz st :D

based on experience, tama description ni sir bamf pag me sayad na voice coil, also minsan mafeel mo din literally yung sayad pag ginagalaw mo up and down yung cone.

possible voice coil ang problem.  voice coil is different from the cone, yung voice coil kasi dinadaluyan ng current kaya pag may sayad sa tunog malamang yun na nga ang sira pag may nakita ka namang  sira or punit sa cone possible na dun nagkakaproblema.  The best way to find out the problem is madiagnose namin ang speaker mo.

thanks for asking.

sir deedee91874,

usually 3-5 days ang period pagre repair ng voice coil.  Kailangan kasi patuyuin maigi coating ng voice coil at adhesives ng tinanggal na parts.

thanks

sir bluenote,

hahanapan namin ng kamukha at kasukat na cone (generic) na available sa market.  we don't have jbl parts, kung gusto mo order ka sa jbl or sa fender ng assembly kit (cone, edge, voice coil and glue) tapos pa assemble mo sa amin.

thanks

I had my vintage Jensen Leslie 15" 16 ohm speaker rewound by Paul.

He did a good job getting back the original sound. When I brought the speaker to him, he tested it and found out it was wound for under 10 ohms. Far off from what it should be. He also noticed after opening up the speaker that the coil was 1 1/2 inches wide where it should have been 2 inches based on the original bobbin, to achieve the 16 ohm reading.  Paul made a new voice coil from scratch using new copper sheet and gauge 32 copper wire.

It was reconed over 20 years ago here but not to it's original 16 ohms and the former reconer put a rubber surround. Made tipid on the copper needed to rewind the voice coil. Great for him bad for me and more importantly, the sound. The original cone is long gone but because destroying the original cone was/is the way it's done, it was lost to bad technology, before Paul and his son Benedict came around.

Paul replaced the surround with a pleated cloth type. He kept the old paper recone and made a new voice coil, used the old spider.

I'm happy with the performance so far. The Leslie came back to life and the organ sounds like it should. Has the right break up and tightness and since it's the right impedance it makes the horn sound better. Leslie sound is all about Lo-fi so it was a match.

You should know though that foam or rubber surrounds are not musical instrument surrounds. They are for stereo speakers.

Paul is a second gen recone specialist, having learned from his father.
He also does many car audio speaker recones on branded speakers like Infinity, Rockford-Fosgate, Kicker, Xplode.

If you guys are in need of a recone, try and save your original cone and  surround if you've blown the voice coil. It will help in the repair plus retain most of the originality of your vintage speakers.

At least we now have someone who can repair a good speaker and is knowledgeable as to what is needed. After our guitar, effects and amp. the speaker is the last defining moment. Make sure it's right!
