Hello Guys! Nag open ako ng topic sa "The Bass Place" about what makes a good drummer.Dami replies.Dami din tayo mapupulot na tips dun kung ano ang ine expect nila sa mga drummer! Mga do's and Dont's.Check it out! Pero bago yan...
Ngayon tayo naman ang magsabi ng opinions natin kung ano ang ineexpect natin sa mga bahista,at kung ano ang ayaw natin....
Simulan ko na!

Dahil tayong mga drummer ang time keeper ng banda,gusto ko naman sa bahista yung marunong "lumaro" within the time,
MALAKAS ang pakiramdam,at nakaka appreciate ng accented at unaccented notes.
Mahalaga din para sa akin yung space.Hindi sa lahat ng bilang may kalabit.At syempre may latin at funk flavor ang style nya,lalo na pag improvisation ang tugtugan!

Pag cover songs,I dont mind kung sumablay sya.Basta't plakado ko yung tugtog,sa gitarista ako mag dedepend.Pero minsan kelangang sabayan ko sya kahit mag iba ang feel ng tugtugan,kesa naman magkalayo kami ng bagsakan.

Great topic!


First and foremost, I want a bass player whom I can get along with.  He/She should be a sincerely good person with a good heart.  Hassle kasi kapag may kasama ka sa tugtugan na may masamang ugali.  It's very important that we drummers are in good terms with bass players.

Next, I want a bass player who is more than just a bass player; he/she has to be a musician.  He/She must have the heart and the mentality of a true musician.  He/She must value musicality as the highest priority.  He/She plays for the music.  He/She should know what to play at the right moment.  He/She must appreciate different styles of music.  He/She must have an open mind.

My ideal bass player doesn't need to be a technical master.  But he/she must have a great sense of groove and feel.

I also appreciate bass players who know how to get a quality sound from their instruments, and which bass sound will fit right for the music.

Kapag nahuli lahat ng tamang elements, ang sarap ng tugtugan nyan.  Tight na tight! 8)

hirap responsibility ng bassist... sabi ni randy jackson "the bassist is the whole rythm section" tayo time keepers lang...

magaling kaagad ung banda pag magaling ung bassist... ung drummer kahit poste lang basta in time at in the pocket lang...

mas gusto ko ung bassist na solid ung tunog at masarap na feel...

ang okay na bassist para sa akin ay yung talagang may partership sila nung drummer. kahit hindi flashy, kahit sabihin na natin na "poste" pareho yung drummer and bassist, ok pa rin basta gabit na kabit sila sa isa't-isa sa mga grooves.

yes, i agree that being a bassist is not that easy. sabi nung iba (ang dali dali lang naman magbase), ndi rin eh. dapat talaga ang drummer and bassist may chemistry. and bassist should know how he/she will create a different sound which will give more substance sa tugtugan.

i did notice it sa church namen...pag walang bass player, dull ang pagda-drums...ndi naa-accentuate yung palo ng drummer.

a good bassist compliments the drummer and vice-versa.

this thread reminds me of victor wooten and carter beauford's song writing DVD.. They mentioned a lot of good tips and tricks in there..

eto ung nag stick sa mind ko

playing instruments is like having a conversation with your band mates and the audience... when one is saying a piece, the others will just "complement" what the other is saying. Kapag sabay sabay nagsalita lahat, hindi magkakaintindihan.

may mga tips sila for bassist and drummers. hinid ko masyado matandaan ung iba pero i believe may isang part don na sinabi ni victor na kapag ang parts na tinutugtog ni carter ay closed hihats (or open hihats yata yon, hidni ko na matandaan eh :-D), ang gagawin daw nya sa bass ay staccato notes.. kapag open hihats naman, longer notes ang gagawin nya..

highly recommended dvd for those looking at how musical instruments and notes play to create a song...

Para po sakin, magaling ang bassist pagka nakaka sabay xa sa tugtugan kahit na nag baback beats ka, ung tipong nakaka pasok padin siya sa beat 1 ng 4/4.

ayaw ko ng bassist na masyadong pasikat, ung masyadong nananapaw ng tugtugan, tapos masyadong malakas ung volume nya sa bass amp. Puro ugong na lang naririnig ng tao. Gusto ko lang ung marunong maki-groove sa tugtugan at cyempre marunong din maki-groove pati sa ugali. At yung pwede rin makainuman hehe :-D

one who respects and understands views and interpretations. one who knows when and where to put the "needed" notes and when to keep it simple. one who makes the music sound better at hindi ka pababayaan and lastly, one who shares the same love and has the "fun" mentality with music. marami magaling pero hindi lahat ng magaling ay pwede. drummers and bass players are extensions of each other...that's how i see it. :-)
