snare depth?

Planning on getting a new snare..

choosing between a 5" and a 6.5" depth..how does the sound differ when the snare gets deeper?

experts please advice

According to the Drum Tuning Bible...   Depth is responsible for the duration of the note and aids in resonance.

So, in general...

Deeper drums have longer sustain, and there's more resonance and depth in its sound character.

Shallow drums have shorter/quicker sustain, and resonance is more "controlled".

the depth also adds "meat" to the sound. in recording, it is really hard to get that meaty sound out of a piccolo.

It depends on the music you're playing, pare.

Modern Funk, R&B, Hiphop, para sa akin masarap yung piccolo- for staccato.

Fat & Meaty sound naman for Old School type, saka Rock/Metal

oic..so for a more versatile snare would it be correct to go for the 5"

^^^ I guess so...Around 5" naman kasi ang kalimitang depth ng snare na makukuha mo pag bumili ka ng kit, diba? Yun din ang pinaka common. So that means, yun ang pinaka malapit sa standard, therefore mas versatile.

5.5 - 6 would be still the best selection... its really the standard size...
