Genre aside from Jazz
« on: October 24, 2007, 03:11:36 PM »

Any particular band/artist or genre you love listening to, aside from jazz or blues?

Does it contribute something to your jazz playing?  :-)

Alternative and pop. It may help in my guitar playing, but sadly, no, it does not contrubite to Jazz.  :-(

I wish it did. Pero talagang malayo sila sa isa't isa. Magkaibang mundo talaga.

rnb, hiphop and neo-soul

if you go for experimental rnb...the jazz flavors eminent in these styles actually contribute some nuances onn my attempt to learn jazz

right now my portable music player's loaded with brad paisley and albert lee songs. recommended listening for guitarists who want to improve their chops.

Currently classic rock and some blues, pondo sa banda e.  :-D Oks lang naman, I don't mind kung makadagdag or hindi basta ang importante sa akin may napapakinggan. Lalabas din ang impluwensiya niya kalaunan.  :-)

ALL music.

Music is music.

Even forms we feel are beneath us --- even the worst of Death-By-Bossa (sorry, Queen but, uhhh....), even the worst of Lito Camo's work, even the most jaded of record company-manufactured bullsh_t, even crass, commercial crud --- exist for a reason.

Reason 1) It makes some people happy.

Reason 2) It makes some people rich.

Reason 3) (... this is a tricky one....)

acid jazz is as far as I can remeber was accepted as a genre. The acid jazz frontliners of the 90s such as Incognito helped spread the message by fusing jazz and rnb elements to come up with the genre
