Got my hands today on Mixing With The Pros by James Tuttle (DVD). Just watched the first two videos and looks very promising. I'll be finishing the rest of it slowly within the week.

i have been looking for a good recording school for a long time.. im a home recording enthusiast and im buying my equipments one by one.. right now i have a mixer, a philips mic (a very crappy mic that i bought to replace my pc mic when i was starting), and a mic stand. when recording something with percussion, i use a drum machine software. any ideas on where i could learn to record high quality demos in a budget? or a recording school per se..

Hi po sa lahat, newbie po ako d2, not sure if this is the VERY right place to post my question. Is anybody here using a Linux operating system for their home DAW (digital audio workstation)? I have just downloaded and installed 64 Studio Linux 1.0. Baka meron pong marunong d2 sa Ardour(DAW) tsaka Hydrogen(drum machine) tsaka Jack(sound server). I have used cool edit pro and pc drummer before but i gave up on on using windows. I have used Linux for 2 years now and i am exploring the multimedia side of it just a few days ago. Baka may malupit na d2 sa mga apps na ito, baka pede po humingi ng tutorial just to speed up my progress. I salute Christian musicians here, hope to find blessed bandmates here, Petra Rocks!!! :)

For students here, I recommend visiting the College of Saint Benilde's Library, even as a visitor. We have a ton of books on recording you can read while inside. :-)

Thanks for the suggested books. Nagtsasaga ako sa mga old issue ng recording magazine.

Be wary of magazines though, coz there's a chance they might endorse some products just because the products are advertised in the magazine, and especially in old issues, the technology might already be outdated. :-|

Be wary of magazines though, coz there's a chance they might endorse some products just because the products are advertised in the magazine,

That is fairly much a given, especially of the major american mags. I tend to favor reviews from Sound on Sound and TapeOp magazine, though. One should also go through sites like Harmony Central and Gearslutz for user reviews... like everything, take some of their opinions with a grain of salt.

One thing you can glean from magazines, old or new, are recording and production techniques because these are tried and true. As a matter of fact, most of the articles on techniques are rehashes of older articles, usually updated to include computer techniques. One thing I devour like crazy, is when they give out tips on software like Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools and Live.

JAcob

In my opinion magazine is still one to two years ahead compare to new published books. If theres is a new technology offering in the magazine or any  cool technique before it will be printed in books it will take years. If I buy old issues ussually previous 3-6months issues still it will be useful. REgarding the reviews of new gadgets and softwares well its up to you if you are willing to bite their offer. Actually this is the only place to advertise their new gadget. YOu cannot see these advertisement or product review in billboard in edsa or any advertisement in Telenovela. If im going to buy their gadget I go to the internet and search for unbiased product reviews from the victim.

TO Kit C

SOS offered their old articles in their websites. REcoding MAgazine dont. Englishman are so generous  compare to Americans. I have this Recording MAgazine issue last August 2007 and one of the conributor there is Toby GAd the chart topping producer for artist like miley cyrus, and fergie. He is the  Co writer with the song Big girls dont cry. The article is about producing vocals. VEry nice how I wish I can post the whole article here.
