Your Favorite DELAY pedal
« on: May 04, 2012, 01:30:52 AM »
I think one of the most needed pedals out there are delays. but unlike drive pedals, i think delay pedals are more expensive. Kaya madame na nageend up using some cheap delays (including me. lol) hehe.. When I started to create my own pedalboard, I've been dreaming for a delay pedal, pero mahirap lang kame kaya Boston OD lang gamit ko for 2 years playing time ko sa church..hehe. walang delay, just guitar > Boston OD > amp. hehe. Ngayong nakaluwag ako ng konte, nakabili ako ng delay, simula sa boston to Boss DD3, DD6 etc... I can say that I LOVE DELAYS! more than Distortion or other modulation.. sapat na ko sa OD and delay pedal..
As of now, my favorite delay is Boss DD5. I tried different delay, and my delay as of now is Boss DD20. pero di ko alam, mas gusto ko tunog ng DD5 when it comes to dotted 8ths, mas ok sa tenga ko..hehehe.

Kayo ano favorite delay pedal nyo? kasama po DD20, Timeline, Nova etc..hehehe..
Sana wag magsabi ng pedal na hindi nyo pa nagagamit, yung mga nagamit nyo lang para fair.hehehe.

Thanks!

EDITED:
here's my list of delays...
BOSS DD5 - wala na 'to sa board ko, pero planning to have one by the end of this month. I love how it sound, better than DD3 and DD7 for me.. I love the repeats, mas lutang ang dotted 8ths.. mahilig kasi ako sa dotted 8ths. My favorite simple delay so far.

Boss DD20 - This one is on my board right now. VERY versatile and EASY to use, and the main reason why I love this delay (pinagpalit ko dd5 ko dito. hehe) very live friendly talaga.. I can change presets, and set the tap at the same time.. basta may external tap tempo ok na ok to. the modulate mode is so good. also the Analog mode. Panalo tong delay na to, my 2nd fave delay! hehe

Boss DD3 - warm sounding delay, easy and simple delay. kung "for delay" purposes lang hanap, this one will work.

Boss DD7 - lots of modes for a single compact pedal.. good sounding, specially the analog..hehe..

Boss DD6 - bilis lang sakin, ayoko neto, dahil dun sa built-in tap tempo..

Boston DD100 - IT SUCKS! may sakit tong delay na to, sinisinok. di pa ko member ng PM nung bumili ako ng brand new neto..hehe.

Artec Analog delay - hmm, volume drop, halatang halata, I don't like it! hehe

I wanna try Timeline, Nova Delay/Repeater, DL4 hehe

my current favorite delay is the dd20, such a wonderful workhorse. reliable nothing to say about it.

been through a lot of delays.

my first delay is a dd3, which is great, but can be too bright sounding sometimes,
also got a the echo #1 which is digital, no offense to other user but its a terrible delay and not exactly cheap
has a very noticeable volume drop and the time knob being so sensitive.
I owned a dd5 briefly it sounded good, pero hindi ko na na try ng maigi dahil gas ako sa dd20 that time so I have to sell it quick, hehe

my impressions delays I only tried/borrowed

carbon copy - very nice analog delay, been gassing for this forever, nice analog tone, and longer time,
nova delay - I would have bought one myself but I needed a simple looper so I have to go for the dd20. very nice clear tone, and the tone is very controlable
dm3 - very short delay time, which back then made my hate it. great for slap back stuff
dl4 - very big, haha. very nice features and excellent looper, natatakot lang ako bumili dati because of horror stories about it, will buy one now because its not hard anymore to find someone who can fix it or make the footswitch better.

I want to try

deluxe memory man
super delay
timeline

*Kalikot audio rebote 2.5 - nice warmth echo, that's it.
*No.1 echo - I hate the volume drop with this pedal.
*Memory boy - I don't like the mod. Plus I had a hard time tweaking.
*Aqua puss - used to love this one, found out I needed something else with longer delay.
*digidelay - I prefer this over dd3 but its a tone sucker.
*Hardwire DL8 - regreted on letting this one go. Loved its built-in tap tempo.
*Flashback - killer in a small box. I like the tone print and dotted 8.
*Garagetone axle grease - underrated. They hate it coz its cheap and because its not so good looking. Its a bang for the buck.
*Carbon copy - I realized that all I need is something simple that does it all. Its my current.

In my dreams: timeline, memory lane, etc

My favorite - Timeline. I like the tone + features. Strymon's a great company too - excellent service.

I've had (from what I can remember): DD3, AD9, El Capistan, another old Ibanez, Empress VMSD, Aqua Puss, and some others I seem to have forgotten.

Stuff I'd like to try: Memory Lane 2, an old Echoplex, an old EHX DMM..

VOX Time machine. Very natural sounding, even the modern/digital mode. And it's very easy to tweak for me i guess.

I started with a Digiteh Digidelay in the signal chain.  The MXR Carbon Copy was an option but instead got sidetracked at the store and picked up the Catalinbread Montavillian Echo instead.  It's still one of the best pedals snagged for the chain yet.  The Digidelay is set for all the short-range delays and for tap tempo stuff.  The Montavillian is set for more of the longer, more dramatic pings.

oo nga. after nung fuzz party, delay/reverb EB naman :D

BTT. i'd still go for the DD20, straightforward sya for me. and the Malekko 616, magandang pang-solo because of the slight treble boost(diba Robbie? :D) . The timefactor is too complicated, although sya may pinakamagandang features, and kontrolado mo halos lahat ng parameters....

it all changed when I tested the Timeline..... damn you Jan. ipon mode uli.
