Electric Drums Inquiry
« Reply #550 on: July 11, 2014, 10:49:17 AM »
My band mate uses a Yamaha DD-65 for our semi-acoustic band.

AFAIK, keyboard amplifier talaga dapat ang gamitin, just wondering if acoustic-guitar amp will do and what are CONS if it does.

better to use a bass amp to get the thud of the bass drum. pag acoustic guitar amp baka di macapture yung low frequencies ng bass drum. its either a Bass Amp, or a Keyboard amp. or best, Active Monitors. :D

Agree with the bass amp. You'd be surprised how a good bass amp can be a nice keyboard amp substitute!
Pag acoustic amp kasi walang bass masyado, and like electric guitar amps, colored din sya to some extent.

+1

Hi Guys,

i'm considering selling one of my jazz bass to get a brand new kit. my budget is around 30k lang and I just checked TMS, 36k pala ung medeli dd506 ung DMlite naman walang bass drum kick pad.

Advise lang sana regarding this problem I have hehe

facts:
1. I am no drummer at all. have been a bassist (mediocre) for the longest time pero I have zero skills sa pag drums but I really want to learn.
2. Newly wed (soon to be dad) and barely have time to go out with friends to jam in studios like I used to kaya gusto ko ng bedroom equipment.

needs/wants:
1. gusto/kailangan ko ng edrums so I could learn silently without disturbing others.
2. balak ko lang mag play along, no recording muna or advanced stuff, just play drums that's it.
3. I think iba talaga ang feel ng acoustic set but I cannot afford the space and noise for now so edrums talaga ang choice. do you guys have any recommendations given my budget?
4. I do not know how to test. at all. kung pupunta man ako sa store hindi ko alam kung ano kailangan ko silipin para masabi na ok ang isang edrums. do you have like a set of criteria you look for edrums?
5. Is it a bad idea that I start in edrums rather than acoustic sets?
6. Is there any other equipment I need to purchase if balak ko lang naman is play along and learning basic drum patterns for the time being?

thanks in advance. :)

I can't recommend specific models and brands, but do stay away from those Ringway ones. Also not the Roland TD-4KP, coz it feels like it's gonna break when you hit it.

4. IMO for the lower price ranges, there's really not much you can ask for, so there's not much to inspect in terms of features. You're basically talking durability here. It would be prudent if you ask if a bass drum pedal and drum throne is included. Most low-end e-drum kits don't include bass drum pedals and thrones, and that will cost a few more thousands. Things like dual/triple zone pads and MIDI out are present north of the 30K price range. Do take a listen for the onboard sounds. Iwasan ang masaydo tunog karaoke.

5. Not a bad start, since e-drums have really improved a lot, and response is more realistic. You'd have to unlearn bad habits though, mostly involving dynamics. While you have 255 levels of sensitivity for each e-drum, acoustic drums are much more dynamic, and even more sounds are available to the player just by changing dynamics. Also, you will miss the ride bell (a low-end e-drum kit doesn't have one: you'll have to hit the ride cymbal pad hard to get a bell sound). Upside of starting with e-drums: You won't be a heavy handed drummer. You'd be afraid to break your pads too early!

Headphones (cans or in-ears), or a small keyboard amplifier. If using headphones, probably a 1/8 jack extension to get the cables out of the way. Music stand. Malaking kumot na pantakip sa kit. Bass drum pedal and drum throne if not included.

salamat sa reply mga boss, I guess di pa abot ang budget ko for a decent starter kit so I have to save up a bit pa. what can you guys say about medeli dd506?

hindi ko nga na take into account ung expenses for other accessories so would you guys think that I should have at least 40k on hand to be safe?

TIA

Siguro dahil sa mesh head? Yung pads ng Pearl medyo napapa lakas palo ko, but not by much. Di kasi nagkaka ghost note.

Quite true, you need to give it a good consistent whack just to get a consistent bell sound on the cymbals. Soft cross stick is also a hit and miss.

true. kaya i feel na starting drummer need to learn on an acoustic kit. hahaha para sa mga intermediate na ang e-kit na kailangan ng minimal noise.

iniisip ko..baka nakakamiss pumalo sa mesh head sa snare especially yung mga rim shots...Im pretty happy with the hd3 for home use and for the kiddo (hard rock kit lang naman ginagamit ko).. and nakita ko kasi yung plasticky material ng td4 eh...parang yung mga bagong CUBE GX, parang di masyadong ok yung materials..
as for the drum module..for sure mas ok padin yung sa td4.....baka palipasin ko nalang to...it would be totally cool though..anyway I better sleep on it muna...medyo na GAS ako kanina ng sobra..haha

thanks guys for the input...basa basa muna ako ng info and specs
