tip lang bro, hold your pick as close to the tip then pag mag haharmonic ka na, slightly angle your picking na tatama sa thumbs mo. dapat slight lang para tumunog ng maayos then practise it a lot. it will come naturally pag na perfect mo na yun. also find the spot kung saan mas madali mag harmonic. gud luck.

Tama si Phil para mas may attack sa string.
I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones.

dont forget, high output bridge pickup para talagang matunog, some compression and plenty of gain will also help.

check out Zakk Wylde's playing, kahit na sa mga bass strings super solid yung pinch harmonics nya...super high output yung pups ng guitars nya(EMG 81 n 85).

pero siempre, yung technique is the most important part.

right, plus learn to locate the "sweet spots" when you're attacking the string. for example, kung gusto mong mag-pinch harmonic na tunog harp harmonic (12 frets higher) sa 14th fret using a 22-fret guitar, try "extending" the fretboard by estimating where the 26th fret is  then dun ka mag-pinch harmonic. another way to perform it is like what Eric Johnson did on "SRV" sa solo part. iba yung method but same result :)

when practicing that dapat relax lang wag panggigigilan kasi baka maputol ang string...tsaka sabi nga kanina use bridge pickup and rev up the gain...

bros,

Does having an arched top helps in bringing out these harmonics, as compared to a flat top?

I noticed that I could easily make my guitar squeal especially on the lower strings of my guitar with arched top...

what do you mean arch top?

I use thick picks(dunlop Jazz III black and red)

..I think it's just technique...kung maperfect mo kahit sa clean channel makuha mo....practice.

my Ibanez squeals easily ...same as a les paul style....I think it's just the technique....you know what?..I think it's the pickups too....if you have the technique down...then it would really help if you have a HB or a really loud pick up....thats from my experience.

true. less ang harmonics na lumalabas out of my Strat as compared to my other humbucker-equipped guitars. :)

Hmm let me see, heres how it works with me:

-Do not use whimpy picks, the harder the better, Billy Gibbons I think uses Mexican peso (or was it Brian may?)

-A slightly angled attack on your pinch execution will yield a higher possibility of bringing out the desired effect, you'll hear the string slapping your skin if it fails :D

-Add vibrato :D

Not much to it in my experience, but start out slow and then try incorporating it to the licks you know :)

Listen to stuff by ZZ Top, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, and whole else? uhmm Skid Row :)

the reason i asked if having an archtop guitar vs flat top will make a difference in getting more squealing notes, is that I noticed in my les paul-like guitar, i can make em...weee! waaa! wuuuu! wooo!..there more squeling notes on it.

I'd flip the bridge pickup and vary my pick attack, make squeals near the bridge pu, middle,  down to the neck pickup area...and consistent sya..With my ibby..I can make it easily squeal near the bridge, middle,  but as i go down near the neck pu area, nde ganun ka-defined ung squeal...both on hi-gain settings naman... :?

BTW, i love those squeals i get near the neck pu.. 8)
I have this riff wherein my right hand wud jump back & forth for those notes, sarap.

yep yep agree to that mas madali magpalabas ng pinch harmonics sa ibby based on my observation kahit sa bass string lalabas...

eto sakin lang ha. im using ordinary picks before pero nahihirapan ako. then nakabili ako sa states ng tortex sharps yung blue(commonly maroon and green). mas maganda yun attack nya for a smooth or agressive p.h. o kaya sir, try mo nlang lihahin yung dulo para medyo tumulis. san ba area mo? pwede kitang bigyan para ma try mo  8)

you can attain different tones/sounds/pitch of your pinch harmonic (even in one fret position of your left hand) - by simply varying the position of attack of your right hand... attacking the strings near the bridge and attacking the strings near the neck will produce different sound without changing the position of your left hand.

I love the pinch harmonic sound of the 6th string on the 2nd fret (doing it with a slight bend) - ala Zakk Wylde....(scream, scream, scream)
