where can you get a drum machine? can you program your own drum parts?
power in numbers!!!

yes.
or better yet, audio sequencing software na lang.
tapos download ka ng mga drum loops o drum hits free from the net (a simple google search should do the trick). then pwede ka na gumawa ng drum patterns using the sequencer program.

peace!

yung drum machine na sinasabi mo na programmable over 10k yun, overkill na masyado. gamit kong drum machine yung zoom b2 hindi programmable. install ka na lang ng cakewalk sa pc kung gusto mo ng programmable sequences

lately band-in-a-box (software yun) ang gamit ko para bass/piano/guitar accompaniment. midi nga lang kaya cheesy yung backing track but it serves me well

Isa pa!!! Kung araw-araw ka nago-"ghosting" (air drumming), or at least pagtap ng daliri to the tune of your favorite songs, di malayong magkakaroon ka ng sense of time. Hehe.

I use a metronome on practices, whether individually or with my band.

On gigs, I don't normally use a metronome, because my bandmates and I want to achieve a more spontaneous sense of feel and time.  But I can use it when I need to.  We also use sequenced tracks on gigs, so those can be as good as playing along to a click.

In practice, yes. I honestly believe that it is a MUST for drummers to have his/her own metronome during practice. Hey, even the pros do it.

In gigs, tried it for a few times, but I would have to agree with Anthony (drumster) - try to get a more spontaneous, "live" feel. In my experience, hindi kasing-sarap tumugtog ng live with a click track

ive mixed issues with this

i must agree if your learning to play drums or any instrument (keyboard or guitar) a good time reference is essential. specially if you want to pick up notation and concepts of half time, double time. counting..1&2&3&4, 1-e-&-a, 2-e-&-a, etc

it develops feel din overtime.

this is most essential like what sir mod said in playing with sequencers (ill try to post a different topic on this)
A hardware sequencer roland mc50 or those built in keyboards, or with recent technology laptops runing reason, cakewalk, FL are tools which assist the band play songs which is pre-arranged, though played along by the band live.  this is a difficult technique and an art in itself (worthy of another thread topic) since so many things are going on at the same time and as a drummer u have a responsibility to to hit the beat DEAD on for the whole duration of the song without sounding mechanical meaning you have to maintain a good feel for the groove... if you skip even half a beat..and mawala ka sa sequence...this may lead to a disastrous performance

matagal na ako di nakakapasok sa professional studio pero most techs when they record, they want a click track for the drummer ( para di sila mahirapan )

though w recent technology quantizing recorded beats and grooves is possible even in home do-it yourself recording (then again another topic someday). if you notice drummers in recording are becoming an extinct species. with the advent of sampling in the late 80s, drummers are a rarity in the studio. producers just load up a sample or get loops, modify it, assign different samples on grooves, eq it then yun na..they can make it sound like a real human drummer...with feel, dynamics and sometimes mistakes inputed in..

this is evident in the album of Joe Satriani ..surfing with the alien.  the drummer.. Jonathan Mover actually didnt play live drums on some tracks like "satch boogie"...well now na alam ko na, nahahalata ko na peke sa totoo

point is. i was with a band (actually one man band sya hehehe) DNDI, fronted by pinoy bass legend dondi ledesma. dondi is highly against click tracks and metronomes. nawawala daw kasi yung feel ng drummer. and in this day and age of loops and samples.  id rather go with feel n slightly sloppy time than a non grooving dynamically linear robot

though im guilty before of bringing a click just to give me bpm (beats per minute) reference, which brings me to my next question ...HOW DOES ONE DRUMMER REMEMBER TIME? (next thread nalang ito hehehe) in the context na ..galing kang ballad (105bpm) ...then suddenly mabilis (140bpm)..this is a killer lalo na pag nasa show ka na may medley..patay ka sa diva na vocalist at sa musical director..bwahahahaha

It's not the number of notes you can play, but the number of rests in between..to come up with a tasteful, soulful piece...

Tama Rhythm Watch 105 or Yamaha Click Station or Other Metronomes?
« Reply #43 on: April 02, 2007, 11:15:50 PM »
I believe its about time to practice drumming properly.

Mga sir, help naman, kung sino man yung nakagamit na alam ang features ng mga metronome na to, please post your comment.

I have read the review but it seems complete since wl yung pros and cons against each other. Im choosing between the two and would prefer a good comparison.

According to one article mas marami daw memory ung Yamaha, while Tama has louder volume?

Ano ba ung features na mas useful talga?

Advice naman po dyan. Assuming that the two are priced very closely, 500PHP difference.

Balita ko mas maganda yung Click Station. Malaking bagay yung more memory, tapos yung additional features like vibration and yung lighting display niya (which allows you to properly see the screen even if the lights are out). Tapos may mga added pa na iba.

Kung 500 pesos lang ang difference, I would go for the Click Station. Mas bago at mas marami features

How about adaptability to noise. Like maririnig mo ba sya while playing?

Also the quality of sound beats or click, napapalitan ba un?
