i'll play. i've loved bursts ever since i can remember but recently my taste evolved and i wanted to have guitars in the color they first came out in. so that means isa na lang ang burst ko ngayon (tokai 54 strat). but this one is the exact color combination and bursting that i've always wanted.
if i could have another burst, gusto ko 62 strat (3-tone) or 335 (if i can't find a cherry one).

the cherryburst in the middle is a Heritage LP. the goldtop is an Epi and the blackguard is an MIA 52ri that i never should have sold! (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b19/deltaslim/Lumbayaolounge.jpg)
tobaccoburst is Greco LP which i just sold, strat is MIJ (previous to the one i just had pictured below) (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b19/deltaslim/Fabfive1.jpg)
just sold this MIJ 62ri strat a few weeks ago... (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b19/deltaslim/MIJFender62Stratfull.jpg)

Baligtad na ngayon ano? Nung unang lumabas ang strats sunburst ang default color. Custom color pa yung solid at yun ang mas mahal. In fact, may mga custom color na sunburst sa ilalim. Fender was just trying to keep up with the demand for custom color strats and would even paint over the 'generic' sunburst gtrs.

^^^I have some occasional run-ins w/ those types of guitars (battered and unappreciated--full of mojo). They sell it it that way here in JP except special ones like anniversary issues, etc. The cost of restoration is the same or twice the price of a particular guitar.

kung puro black yung kulay ng contours, baka lang kasi plywood ang tinatago ng black paint... I am not however saying that plywood guitars do not sound good.

No, Phil. Medyo gahol sa oras noon, eh, hehe. Next time dadalhin ang gears ko as much as I can (which is not much, hehe). Yong strat inaayos ko pa ang neck/fret. Balak kong i re-fret with 6105 or 6100 jumbo frets if I have the time. If not, than I'll just get a decent neck in Ebay.

nah, im happy with the finish, i like it screaming "my owner is a cheap bastard!"
i'm planning to change the mounting rings though, looks bad with the unaligned edges. thinking of having jun castro (just because he's nearer where i am  ) make just one big rectangular piece to replace the three pieces and have the holes fit the pickups snugly (underneath that middle pickguard is a bastardized humbucker dimarzio made into a single coil)

American Fenders are cool in terms of the details and materials used. They have different parts that are much better. The craftsmanship iS better I think. However, I dont like how they look. If I would ever buy an american Fender, its probably a Vintage or signature series of my idol. Heheh HahAh

sounds like an excuse to keep it...

I just ordered this on line....hope the red hue is not too distinctive. A brand new American Deluxe but with maple fretboard....it was a toss up between a Gary Moore LP and this....I decide to pull the trigger on this baby....the LP maybe later this year....hehehehe.

Chito,
Gorgeous pair! Which is #1?
Right now its the PRS. BTW, I just replaced the pups on the Fender, Lace Sensors T-100 and T-150. I'm not sure I like it. The bridge pickup doesnt have the bite of the original pup but then it's not noisy and not as sharp sounding. The unmistakable "twang" is there tho. :)

Ganyan din ako dati. Kala ko kuntento na ako sa ibanez and the other superstrats. Tas biglang nag-iba taste ko. For some reason i got more into the classic styles. Lalo na nung nagka-strat ako. I didn't even have to care if the playability was good (well atleast as good as a decent ibanez). Tas parang wala nang bukas.hehehe So far, my lust for classic axes hasn't waned yet. Not even a bit. Still, i wonder if it's ever gonna change soon.
..i hope not.

yung greco mo bro hindi ba sunburst yun? sayang yung jack and gill daniels mo na LP eh, hehe. ang ganda ng burst nun, for me, hehe.
pero sakin lang, yung pinakamagandang burst for me is yung sa LP ni jimmy page, teaburst ba yun? wala akong alam sa LP bursts eh, hehe. sa strat lang.
abut strat 2 and 3 tone bursts, depende eh. may 3 tone burst na hindi reddish yung hue nung dulo, meron naman 2 tone bursts na sobrang nipis nung pagkaburst, yung kulang sa gradation, so nagmumukhang brown lang sha na may black border, hehe. so it all depends. ako ayoko run yung may reddish hue eh, buti nalang yung 3-tone burst ko maayos yung pagka burst, hehe.

yes, my Super Real is a tobaccoburst. baka by the time makuha ko kay arie, yosiburst na! :-) yung jack & gill daniels, lemon burst, gaya ng kay peter green, kaya ko siya napag-tripan. but the super real came my way and had to keep just one.
like you, favorite burst ko yung kay Jimmy Page. yes, it's a teaburst. i had a Greco dati in dat color pero bolt-on... bitin ung sustain at 60s neck. bye-bye!

aargh! bolt on! hehe ganda nung lemonburst na yun ah, sana pala sinulot ko sayo, hahaha. andun ako before mo nakuha yun eh, hehe. i ended up getting the heerby kasi mas umappeal sakin yung tunog nun, hehe. sayang hindi lang burst.
teka, medyo bago pa lang ako sa les paul scene eh, hehe. how do i distinguish the necks? yung body nung heerby ko din may contours. pero les paul custom ang design nya. pero i kinda like the contours sa likod, hehe. may gibson ba na may contoured back?

your loss is, my... teka... tony2tone's gain pala!
in general ang 58 is the fattest (parang D kung baga sa strat), 59 is a fat C, and 60s are a slim, thin C... comparatively speaking.
not sure about contours (belly cut you mean?) behind LPs. it's the top that counts!

ah ok, i am... illuminati! hehe
as for the contours, ano sha, rib contour tapos yung sa may heel sa may cutaway may contour din, hehe. sarap lang hawakan, hehe. parang swak na swak sa kamay. yung top nya is chambered i think. medyo warm kasi yung tunog nung LP eh. pero i like, hehe. at least a change from the strats, hehe.

i should've gone yesterday, sayang. i'm sure meron ding bursts ang kajon, and quilts and flames, hehe. the most pogi i saw ata was the toca alex acuna cajon, i saw it at audiophile, sells for around 6k ata, kinda pricey for a bird box. and kakaiba sha, wala shang snare action, it's a box lang talaga. pero maganda tunog.
yung cajon ko naman is custom made by a guy, now in the forums (try SLAPBOX), taga-cubao sha, he makes cajons for a cheap price. unfinished, it has like a "wallpaper" lang, hehe. pero so far, this has been one of the nicer sounding cajons i've ever used. i've tried the k-hons and the monkeys cajons (yung may sun design sa soundhole nya) ok naman tunog pero mahal and masakit sa kamay. mine's not a looker, pero it's easy on the hands, and the pocket, hehe.
meron din sa mga lyric stores, meinl ang brand nya. ok lang, makinis, nice woods. pero sa sound parang bitin ako, hehe. i think it sells for 4k.

Uy, thanks for the info! Very useful. Medyo masakit ang P4-6K... di pwede sabihin kay Kumander na cheaper than furniture, kahit double purpose! hehehe!
Interesting iyan "unfinished"... I guess DIY lacquer finish is out of the question, dahil baka masira yung tunog ng kahon?
Oh well, there's goes that idea of a 'burst kahon...

Flame-maple top na Tobacco Sunburst that looks like nicotine stains but looks very orangy in the picture. Actually the color looks closer to this:
2. Stagg SA-350 Gibson ES-335 copy. Tobacco Sunburst din. Can't tell whether it sounds as good or worse than the real McCoy. Cheap yet good enough for my needs (hey, I'm no Larry Carlton or Lee Ritenour!)

VJoe, salamat. Stagg is a Belgian brand. They sell pianos, brass instruments, drums, etc. Yung nabili kong gitara made in China. I compared my Stagg's workmanship to other 335 knock-offs and it seems to be better. The trussrod cavity (at the headstock) and the cavity inside the hollow "wings" (in short yung mga parte ng gitara na natatago) are well made - malinis at walang naliligaw na tinabas na kahoy. Even the quality of the wood used at ang pagka-pulido ng trabaho seems to be a notch better then the other copies. Op kors, kung ihahambing natin sa ES-335, di hamak na mas-pulido ang tunay na Giby. Not many outlets carry the brand in North America (I live in Toronto by the way). Most of the feedback I got about their products came from european buyers so I guess mas sikat ito doon.
Someone should distribute their line of instruments sa atin. Kung "Bang-for-the-buck" ang habol mo, the brand is something worth considering.

Thanks for the quite interesting info. There are a number of 335 aficionados on this forum, though mostly lurking. You may want to post your 335 pic again here...

Speaking of sunburst finishes, here's something worth reading if you plan to do it on your own:

anong book yan? may binili akong book kanina, "Electric Guitars - The Illustrated Encyclopedia" ang gaganda ng mga classic models, especially the 60s Stratocasters and vintage cherryburst Les Pauls... hayyy major GAS inducer to!

Title of "PhilMusic 'Burst Guru" to the first who can name them all without looking up the URLs or [IMG] designations (honesty required) -- Year (within a year or five) and Model. Beware... some visible parts deliberately changed in some of them....

   OK -- you get the "Philmusic 'Burst Gulo" award instead!!! Congratulations -- we have a winner (but a dishonest one at that).
Re: single coils: Yes -- the SC, Epi, and regular Standard all have humbucker-sized P90s installed in them -- Harmonic Design Z-90s, Kent Armstrong WPU900s, and HD Z-90s again in that order. My preferences for P90s are pretty obvious. However, the '58 RI LP and the 335 have humbuckers in them -- Tims in the LP and BB's 1&2 in the 335.
And extreme made the honest guess correctly: it's not a relic -- neck stamped 2 JULY 64. So he gets the title of "Philmusic 'Burst Guru" -- Hail to the Chief!!! Ommmmmmmm.............

I changed out the middle tone pot which was hopelessly beyond repair -- tried to do it, but the carbon track under the wiper inside the pot had disintegrated to powder. Otherwise, everything is original and intact -- trem bar and ashtray inside the orig black tolex case.
Found it, incredibly, in a small studio in QC that was going out of business about 15 years ago. Answered an ad for a 70's Jazz Bass which, to my dismay, was hopelessly boogered. Was just leaving, then I saw it -- a transition logo headstock sticking out of a dark corner in the studio.... And that, as they say, was that. No overspray, original frets (albeit worn), the works. Very nicely played in and a lot of old wood vibe.
Can't even mention the transaction value because it's embarassing. The fellow offered it at a price so low, na dinagdagan ko pa dahil na-guilty pa ako. It's fully the equivalent of some of those stories you hear about little grandmothers and her deceased husband's old, dusty guitar, etc... Except in this case, I didn't have the heart to be a totally evil mercenary -- just somewhat naughty.
In the end, that gesture counted for a lot and, as it turned out, there were other "toys" tucked away   with which he was incredibly gracious and kind. They are now happily reunited with their YOUNGER brother from '64 whom you've just met. And they aren't sunbursts either... 8-[

biro lang, strikin' sound ang model.
muntik ng maging EJ model eh..
- light alder body - two tone color - its neck is as fat as a baseball bat (similar to Kotzen sigs)
Ibanez SZ520FM on the left, Ibanez AXD82P on the right...

nag post na ba 'ko? i cant remember.
i have just one 'burst left. its an MIA tele. here's a couple of grainy shot courtesy of a phone camera. :D (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v700/nathanmanansala/guitars/TheSpot.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v700/nathanmanansala/guitars/sophie/Picture5.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v700/nathanmanansala/guitars/sophie/Picture3.jpg)
here's a couple i took with my old cam before i dropped in the callaham parts (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v700/nathanmanansala/guitars/sophie/100_0032.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v700/nathanmanansala/guitars/sophie/100_0024.jpg)
i'm not too fond of the MIA's pumpkin hued 'burst. i like brownish 2 tone bursts better.

The original pickups were quite weak and anemic sounding; my bro decided to install Seymour Duncan alnico II pro pickups...... Now this guitar just purrs and roars........
The trem was way more rusty when i first got this guitar..... I used about a can of WD 40 and a steelbrush to get most of the rust off (not to mention about two hours worth of scrubbing)...... I have to say that this trem is quite smooth in operation; sometimes i prefer it to the stratocaster's trem.....
This guitar was well loved even before i got it..... Here's a pic of the neck.... you can see the wear on the upper part...... whoever formerly owned this beauty obviously loved to wail up there.....
salamat! actually your guitar was one the inspirations for this one hehehe
oyy Reg! triplet na triplet na ang dating ng mga Strat natin ah! hehehe! specs na lang yung difference pero sa finish, spot-on ang pagkagawa ng sayo! sino nag-finish nyan? si micsis din? :)
I posted these pics in some other threads, but they belong here as well :-D :-D...... A Tokai Springy Sound..... This one has what the Tokai folks call a Yellow Sunburst.....

looks precious indeed! i'll bet it plays great as well.. i've tried one of those in JB recently and i liked it :)
Thanks. I'm still adjusting to it. Mas mataba yung neck compared to my strat and mas mahirap ng konti to bend the strings coz of the scale difference... but the tone! OMFG! swak siya through all my pedals and tube amp. OD heaven!

Hi guys,
This thread is dedicated to all guitars having a "Burst" finish..whether its a strat, tele, les paul, jacson, flying V, expolorer..superstrat, semi hollow, jaguar, ukes, juniors, cheap, expensive, relic'd , acoustic, classical guitar, blue burst, green burst etc..as long as its finished with a burst.. traditional man or non traditional...
POST 'EM HERE!
the more artsy, the more you can show off the beauty of your burst...the details, grains, the curves of the wood, the shine of your clearcoat....the better!!
May this thread be the most beautiful thread in Philmusic...
heres my share...it still isnt out there as those majestic AAAAAAA+++ maple tops or fine exotic wood tops..but its enough to put a smile on my face whenever I stare at her..
wow the one on the left is just oh so yummy...though I understand the trade to a goldtop..as i too know the allure and charm of the goldtop versus a nice burst guitar ..

Guys para sa inyo, sino ang pinaka mahusay mag paint ng sunburst? Kahit medyo mahal, im looking for the best quality for my fender strat. Thanks!
Yun ba sir yung gusto mong i-strip? I gots the feeling na hindi 1-pc body yun....:/

hello all, i love bursts as well. here's mine (http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n232/wuwei5150/P1060884_zps18c70099.jpg) (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/wuwei5150/media/P1060884_zps18c70099.jpg.html)
Yes sir ito na nga hehe. Ano po ba mangyayari kung hindi 1 pc body. Sorry sir medyo di ako familiar sa specs.
Medyo OT na pero minsan kasi nag 2- or 3-piece ang mex fenders pag solid color
Say for example (sorry sweetwater) (http://www.sweetwater.com/images/guitars/StratSTMBSB/MX13400029/MX13400029-body-large.jpg)
