-
ako rin.. confused. tulong.. :(
-
depends on what you are going for....learn the modes first and analyze the sound ....so in application...if you have like a fast run in part of the song in the key of A major...you can choose which mode you want to make it sound interesting than just doing a fast A major descending or ascending run.....you can also combine the modes too ...to make it more and more interesting.....in short ...USE YOUR EARS...if it sounds good then use it. 8)

hi, modes have been discussed in the "other" forum... here's my take on it.. kinopy ko lng yung pinost ko dati sa kabila ha.... :)
i know of two ways of learning modes.. the derivative and the parallel approach
in the derivative approach, you cull the modes from the parent scale.. so when i say Eb Lydian, you think of it as the 4th mode of the Bb Major (parent scale).. its easier of the two approaches since you only need to memorize fingerings for one scale.. you just have to start on a particular note to get the desired mode.. very accessible and very good for an overview.. the main drawback is that you sometimes have a tendency to make the modes from one parent key sound alike.. that is why you need to internalize the sound of each mode first..
the parallel approach is important harmonically and is very good for specifics.. in this approach you think of Eb Lydian as separate scale consisting of the ff intervals... (1-2-3-#4-5-6-7-.. its main advantage is that it is easier to get the sound of the mode under your fingers (yun ay sa kin lng po lamang). The disadvantage is sometimes you tend to shape your solos the way the chords move.. so sometimes your solos sound choppy and discontinued.
catch 22: which is better? opinion ko po lamang, but its better to study the two approaches, both has its strong points and both are useful in certain harmonic situations.. the more important thing is that you know the stronger intervals in a particular mode so that you get the desired sound..

Eto some excercises
for learning the derivative approach
Go up the C major Scale then descend when you reach the D note on the second octave down to D then ascend again starting from E. This equalizes the importance of each note in every mode. This way when you're trying to solo your ear can choose what note to play and not your fingers..
parang ganito iyon,
(c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c) (d-c-b-a-g-f-e-d) (e-f-g-a-b-c-d-e) (f-e-d-c-b-a-g-f) ...
ionian dorian phrygian lydian
another exercise.. i think some of you are already familiar with this
play the mode in one string only... and try to solo on the mode using only the single string... mukhang madali diba? pero try to extend for 5 minutes using only 1 string, see if you can still make your solos fresh and free of repetitions.. this excercise
1. frees guitarists from patterns, licks that we are so are accustomed to and enables us to become more "melodic"
2. makes us think more of a horn or piano player
3. helps us also recognize the intervals within the mode
4. help us to get the sound of the mode much faster..

dami nyo alam ah
help nman please. :roll:

Hmmm... Maybe the simplest way to map out the modes as a beginner is for example....
The G Minor Pentatonic is composed of 5 notes: G, Bb, C, D , F then back to G. This means that G is the Root note. A root note is what most beginners pluck to start their scalar runs either up or down and signifies the key/ pitch you are in.
However, at it's most basic form, starting a run at the second note of the scale-- which is the Bb note -- instead of G and ending also at the Bb note means that you have now played a MODE-- also called the Dorian Mode. Start at the 3rd note and you have another mode. Start at the 4th note and so on and so on and so on.
In our example, the G,Bb, C, D, F pattern is now changed to Bb, C, D, F,G and then back to Bb.
The Modes is actually a pattern of tones based on a certain scale. This means that you are in the key of G but are actually starting your patterns on any of the notes included in the G major/ minor scale.
Again, this is the most basic. Marami pa but this can start you oof with the modes. Experiment and learn it by heart the way you have learned the minor pentatonics. It will certainly break your old patterns and expand your field.
Rock on!

sir hindi ba ang ang relative minor ng Bb ang G? diba dapat yung dorian mode ang pinag-uusapan, nasa C yun if in key of Bb? medyo naguluhan kasi ako nung tinawag mong dorian mode yung example mo e hehe..
yung minor pentatonic kasi diba originally derived from the 6th mode of the major scale yun (called the aeolian mode) na tinanggal ang 2nd and minor 6th notes? conversely, yung notes ng G minor pentatonic pag nagstart sa Bb eh di magiging Bb major pentatonic at hindi dorian mode ang tawag dun.
ionian = major
dorian = minor
phrygian = minor
lydian = major
mixolydian = major
aeolian = minor 7th
locrian = diminished

mismo, Gminor is the relative minor of Bb major... i think 16track is applying the modes to the usual pentatonic minor scale.. starting the note at Bb will give you the Bb major pentatonic scale as venusisle mentioned and NOT the dorian mode
nga pala mixolydian is for dominant seven type chords... :)
vinokulafu... what type of music fo you play? IMHO, knowing and mastering the major scale is a good foundation...
sori bro, magulo pala.. ano mismo dun ang di mo gets?
-
tara aral :D tau music...
-
Hahah!
Medyo lasing pa ng kaunti! Mahirap talaga mag type ng may boteng hawak! :lol: Mahirap mag-isip.
Heheh. I stand corrected. I also agree with darnel that mastering the major scales is a good foundation.
My apologies~

help nman dyan o

Learn how to play blues it's easier... Improvised ! ! ! play around with pentatonic...

halimbawa nasa key of C ka..
example progression,,
C-Am-F-G
ioninan- Aeolian-lydian-mixolydian...
-
tama! :D
-
mismo!
no point in going up and down different notes in the scale... better to give importance to intervals that define a particular chord scale... you dont need to change a mode everytime magpalit ng chords..
think more of common tones and intervals that define the particular progression... :)
