it depends actually on what your role in the band is. If you are in the perc section, then a nice drum machine would do, or a laptop if you're inclined (there are cheaper laptops than drum machines). you can also get one of those drum pads like the roland spd's or the newer alesis rectangular pads so you can hit em with your sticks.

If you're in the melody dept, then you can do away with one nice hardware synthesizer and a sampler so you can trigger vocal samples, sound fxs etc that aren't on your synth.

Check out yupangco/perfect pitch for the roland synths or audiophile for korg synths. you can also get the korg kaoss pad for awesome fx's and sampling capabilities.
