i recently overhauled my gear collection.. or shall i say they all got consolidated..

i used to have a couple of amps, but have now sold them all and have gone back to my tried and tested Vox AC30 with blues.

i chose it for its clean, very creamy.. and like i always say "like glass-breaking when you strum a guitar thru this amp. it is very pedal friendly. sounds great when cranked.. very versatile.

i am in the process of getting an AC15 with blues (cant help myself :()
gonna see if its better for practices. the only flaw of the AC30 that i can think of is that is friggin heavy!!!!!!

my AC30 is perfect the way it is to me, i wouldnt even dream of modding it, i would rather just buy something else than wreck a piece of art.

:D

okay I'll start.

I have a Carvin MTS3212 combo all tube amp. I spent $812 with tax. I chose this amp kasi I cannot affford my other dream amp (during that time-Legacy)....so I went to my nearest Carvin store and tried it out and liked it.

I am a fan of Satch, Vai, and Vinnie Moore....so I was looking for that sound in my tube amp which na wala talaga. So I decided to experiment with tubes.....long story short...I ended up with EL34 type na power tubes tapos mixed na preamps para warmth na timpla.......after awhile naging bassy yung tunog ng amp...until I went to my friend (sessionista)...he tried it and we found out that the other speaker is defective after 6 months......wow....bad trip....this was a good time for me to try out the very popular Celestion Vintage 30s na speaker....as a result I found 2 for sale sa EBAY taken out from a mind Mesa Boogie 4x12..

Much better...ang combination nang EL34 power tubes + a variety of preamp tubes + 2 - 12" Celestion Vintage 30s ......kuha ko ang warmth and smoothness ng classic rock and 80s metal na sound.

Here's my beloved Carvin MTS3212

and a good clip of the amp....

during that time meng...la pang V3. si Markflo and stratman1 sold out sila sa V3. Ever since the V3 came out, I haven't been to the Carvin store. The V3 is Carvin's answer to Mesa.....it can do super heavy gainy sound.....which I'm not into.....but when I do go that side of the woods...I will try it out for myself.

my own amp is a super-loud, tube-tube sound na marshall... ms-4 mini-amp, hehe.

VOX Cambridge 30 Twin reverb. Modded to fix the inherent problem with the  factory spec optocoupler.

bought it kasi "cheap" sa Yupangco sale and for the twin speakers and hybrid  sya.

From the top: Mesa Mark IV, Mesa DC-5, Diezel VH4S, Mesa Boogie Trem-o-verb 100Watt. I use a combination of the 2 rectifier 2x12 closed backs and a 3/4 open back for the VH4S.

Sorry for the yellowish color:) I don't have a digital camera so I had to ask my brother to take it using his iSight webcam which is not the best but it works. My studio has Ikea Halogen lights above the outboard gear rack and amp heads that provide the only light sources in the room. I got the halogen spot lights to cut down on any possible hum sources.

Currently still hunting down a Palmer PDI-03 to record the heads DI to mix with in addition to a miked input. I would prefer the mid-90s version of the PDI-03 pero walang nagbebenta kahit used. I will hunt around more and see if I can find one, if not, then I will opt for the re-issued PDI-03 and record clips when I get that.

ampangit ng itsura! mukhang ice cooler na maliit. it has 2 8inch speakers(50 watts each!).
tapos hindi sya wood. Carbon fiber sya and surprisingly 100watts! lightweight pa!

ART t28 attack module. ganda ng lead channel! classic rock ang tunog. clean channel very warm. Very tight bass. Hybrid amp lang( a single 12ax7 on both channels). pero ganda ng tunog! ampangit lang talaga itsura 80's na 80's! may pink parts pa hehehe.

i got it at half the original price kasi old stock na! a few months after i got a matching extension cabinet. so ngayon meron na akong 4x8 amplifier under 20k!

kaso dahil luma na sya i need to have it checked. the pots. capacitors. and the spring reverb medyo mahina. (PM nyo ko if you know anybody i can bring my amp to for general repairs/ maintenance).

other than that i like it! :D

Why?

1. As an example, have you tried na mga MESA (kahit F-series lang, combo amp)? I wouldn't use a pedal to drive it. It's a shame. Lupit ng tunog!!

2. As an example, you cannot use Fender Deville's amp drive/distortion. You won't like it. You will need to replace its stock tubes. Otherwise, a pedal(s) is a must.

IMO,

What good is a tube amp if you don't use its distortion? Many like the fender twins for its clean sound. But it's too sharp (talim ng tunog) for me.

As for the ROLAND JC120, Best stereo chorus( very lushfull). Many say it has the CE-1 circuit. Great speakers too. This plus an SD-1 or TS-9, it rocks!!! I get my crunch sa BD-2 and compressor ko.

For blues, guitar straight to amp, you're better off with the fenders out there. Because of the amps  reverb and brightness. But I'm not into blues  :)

here's my amp: (sorry magulo room ko hehe)

my amp is a Peavey JSX 120W head with a Peavey 4x12" Triple XXX slanted cab. i bought it because i like its tone and the ultra channel is perfect for my taste. the crunch is good too, it sounds kind of a tweener between classic and 80s rock disto/OD. the clean tone has a lot of punch and complements my stompboxes very well. the master volume helps too. the noise gate is very efficient, it segregates the hum well enough that i don't even bother using my noise suppressor pedal that much anymore (except when i'm using my Strat hehe). the Triple XXX cab also sounds great. it isn't loaded with Celestion V30s but the customized Sheffield 12" speakers get the job done for me :)

I use a fender 65' deluxe reverb reissue- love its transparent clean sound and reverb... very easy to crank w/ humbucking pups w/c is also bad in a way cause it has a limited head room... I also use a marshall 62' jtm45 bluesbreaker combo reissue, this has more headroom...  good for clean too :D

Audiophile??? Cool!!!!

hehe you have a point. i bought a 4x12 because i'm saving up to build my own soundproofed studio at home (in around 10 years?! hehe). my volume is usually set at around 10-20% but i've already tried it at 30% or so. my neighbors weren't too pleased to say the least hehe. i'm not sure about this, but i think the master volume kind of lets the tubes operate at max volume without actually giving off 100% volume output to the cabinet. that's just what my ears tell me :)

here's my amp: (sorry magulo room ko hehe)

my amp is a Peavey JSX 120W head with a Peavey 4x12" Triple XXX slanted cab. i bought it because i like its tone and the ultra channel is perfect for my taste. the crunch is good too, it sounds kind of a tweener between classic and 80s rock disto/OD. the clean tone has a lot of punch and complements my stompboxes very well. the master volume helps too. the noise gate is very efficient, it segregates the hum well enough that i don't even bother using my noise suppressor pedal that much anymore (except when i'm using my Strat hehe). the Triple XXX cab also sounds great. it isn't loaded with Celestion V30s but the customized Sheffield 12" speakers get the job done for me :)

Ganda, ganda! Kinis ng kutis! Kita ko ang repleksyon ko, ay! Pangit ko pala, hahaha!!!

di yan pare, lahat tayong mga Pinoy guitarists mga pogi! hahaha!

you have a great amp as well, i would love to try out a JSX some time being a huge satch fan myself. as for my amps, it all depends what tone I might need. i love the blues so I tend to use the DC-5 and Mark IV a lot on clean with a strat. i just love the sound of slightly driven single coils.

Mikey, that is a sweet collection of amps you got there......nice. Any plans coming here to LA para kasama ka sa EB?

pare....when you try the V3...try it with the matching cab and the Legacy cab......if you are a lead player ....you might like the cab with the Celestion Vin 30s......if you are a NEOMetal head...the matching cab is the one for you....scooped and tight bass.

here's a Carvinite who really loves his V3 and posted a lot of clips of it.

thats the cool thing about the JSX....you don't have to drive the tubes hard....the JSX is a really good bedroom amp......you can get really good tones even a really low volumes.......thanks to that master volume there and that built in noise gate.

Sir VenusIsle,  that a silhoutte of a hot chick at the bottom left part of the cab, did you just put that there or did it come with the amp? :)

Sirs, why are some cabs slanted and some arent? Does it affect sound coming out of the cab?
Title: Whats your amp?

its supposed to, I guess. Personally, I've never put too much attention on it. I figure, if its loud and cranked, then the sound is going to go everywhere anyway!

I think it's a means of redirecting the sound to go to a path that would be in line with the player's ears, i.e. above the ground, thus making it easier for him to hear himself. Notice how stage monitors are also slanted? Sound engineers, please tell me if there's any scientific or mathematical basis for my claim. :D

Ey Mark, I used to have an LC50.  How does the VH100R compare to the LC50/LH-50R and the GH100L?

i can't say. i've never tried those amps you mentioned. bihira ang laney dito sa US. sa mga dealers, puro Solid State yung mga models nila. so when i saw the ad for this i immediately jumped at the opportunity.

initial review:
i haven't had the chance to fully crank this amp up at gig volume except when i tried it in the seller's house. it's a different sounding amp, that's all i can say. it doesn't sound like a marshall, or a mesa, or a fender...meron siyang sarili niyang sound kaya medyo nakakapanibago since most artist recordings use the three amps mentioned above mostly. it has a lot of treble to it but you can dial it out so it's all good. i'm probably gonna end up with some unusual dial settings but yea, the controls are really responsive. mine is setup with 6L6's now but im' about to change soon to a quartet of EL34's (Svetlana's Rule!) and the preamp section is still stock so i'm guessing they're pretty worn out. i like the fact that na magkahiwalay yung preamp ng clean sa preamp ng dirty...so i can say, put a couple of 7025's in the clean then a couple of ecc83's in the dirty amp section. the eq and reverb of the clean and dirty are separate too...and so are the effects loop...for example, you can have a chorus on the clean only and when you switch to dirty, it won't be effected anymore...so that's kinda cool...i can come up with a setup similar to my pedal board's now...

yun lang...
