Title: what do you think of vocalist who uses guitar as props only on stage?

what do you think of vocalists who uses guitar as props only on stage? is this just posing? some ive seen so far is playing acoustic guitar with no guitar cable as if the audience can hear what he plays..hanging the guitar by shoulder then not playing it..etc..etc..

Just as long as he can carry a tune or rock the house with his vocals, I wouldn't whine about it. He is, after all, a vocalist :wink:

I see it rather as being a poseur (poser), but then everyone has their own preferences.
on the other hand try checking Rob Halford and Freddie Mercury.. :wink:
Di ko lang kasi masakyan bakit magdadala ka ng props(gitara) sa stage na di mo kailangan at di naman gagamitin? Magdadala na lang ako ng Panda ballpen pang-autograph. Peace tayo Scream. Just a question in my head. :mrgreen:

it is his band, so let him do what he wants...
i don't even understand why it bothers people. a friend of mind finds it insulting, nag prapractice kasi sya and marunong. probably kasi inggit and insecure sya sa playing nya. IMO, that's lame.

Pepe Smith did that nung gig nya with RJ. Sobrang unprofessional. nagsmoke pa ng dubi. he didnt even know the words to the song.. pacute lang IMHO.

to give the vocalist more credibility as a musician? :lol: maybe he's learning to play but not confident enough in his skills so he doesn't plug it. if that's the case, kudos to him for trying to learn :-)

come to think of it, when i watch gigs, i never actually noticed if their instruments are plugged in or not :lol: i just listen to their songs. as a guitarist myself, i look at their gear, especially sa mga pedal board nila, but never kung naka saksak ba mga gitara nila or tumutugtog ba sila. :-P

Strumming the guitar is a good way of building rhythm while singing even if the guitar is unplugged. It is a better option than foot stomping or using tambourines/shaker since your hands can somehow simulate the song dynamics unlike the others which are awkward to use in sudden shift of tempo or dynamics.

eto check niyo tong vocalist ng STP, dehins na kailangan ng props..basta showmanship na lang check niyo yung dancing steps niya tuwing tugtugan haha cool

to begin with, it's the vocalist and not the main guitarist that's being talked about in this thread. kung main guitarist siya at ginagamit lang niyang props ang gitara sa stage, that's lip syncing.
masasabi mo lang na walang talent ang isang bokalista pag sintunado siya kumanta, hindi yung poseur siya sa gitara.

OT: yea nagulat din ako when i saw pepe's poster. He was kising the a fernando tele. I guess RJ will be tampo mode with him. I heard tampo na siya kay Wally G eh hahahaha :lol:

marami din naman guitarista na may mike sa harap, pero kahit minsan hindi ginagamit kahit "oohh o aahh" lang pang second voice. :-o kanya kanyang style lang yan. :-D

Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers did this in their 1994-95 concerts because John Frusciante left the band. He had the guitar but he ain't strumming it. I guess he's just holding the guitar just to catch the mistakes of the other guitarist. :D
