I heard Nino in their Blue Jean Junkies album.  He is good. He plays a fast harp w/ a more classic rock feel.

Hey great article about L'il Walter and your entry to harp. BTW other harmonica players 'suck', us blues harpers 'Draw'. hehehe. So that was three years ago today when you bought your harp. Baka parang Howard Levy ka na ngayon. That guy can play chromatically on a 10 hole harp. Baka Alien sya hehehe.

Try looking for John Mayall's old recordings. One of my favourites is "Room to Move". Another one to look out for is the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Then there's James Cotton, Junior Wells and Charlie Musselwhite. Mayall, Wells and Musselwhite are the ones I've seen perform live. :)

Let's resurrect this thread! Avid blues harp fan here ==> :D

@430nmtune - Been searching for Hohners for quite some time now but all I find (here in Cebu) are china-made keys of C, which are oftentimes out of tune.

Just wanna ask if JB and Salonga branches in manila have hohners in stock? Do they sell online? Daming tanong no? hehe...

KEEP ON WAILIN'!!!

here's a guy who's really good with the harp...

this time he's giving some instructions:

last i checked there are no harps in JB here in manila
but they do sell them, i got my (hohner) marine band (g), and my blues harp there too (c), not sure if its a china though.
they also used to sell cheap red suzukis in C.
dont think the stores sell stuff online.

too bad i cant view the youtube link you sent, our IT dept blocked that site.
is it the old dude sitting on a chair with a series of instructions?
if its him, i liked the one on doing "train" sounds.

@haringulan - Thanks! It's is my hohner blues harp in the key of F (i bought this one in Raon, the last 10-hole diatonic they had in that store). Sadly, I find it hard to do bends on it (or am i just not that good hehehe... a friend told me that those in the key of F are really hard to play coz they have shorter reeds). Anyway...

Yup, that's the guy!

Sad to hear that there are no harp offered for sale at JB.  I found keys of F and E here in Cebu at Salonga Music, but they're not hohners.

I also have Special 20s, so far they're the best models that I've played... easy playability and nice tone.

Bro, if ever you find hohners for sale... timbrehan mo ko ha?

BTW, nice tele!

KEEP ON WAILIN'!!! BLUES RULES!!!

If anyone is interested I will be going to the states early next year. It would not be a problem at all to bring back some harps. Please let me know what brand and what keys.

A good way to think about bending a note is like having a good long sip on a beer, just imagine whistling in reverse and you can bend in any key.

...cool!!!

My version of this is: Imagine that you put a spoonful of hot rice in your mouth, then you try to cool it down by lowering the floor of your mouth by inhaling some air.

hehehMahilig ka kay Jon Gindick 'no?

Marami ngang paran kung paano i -describe ang 'bending' pero halos pareho lang ang technique mechanism.

Nabasa ko lang din yun sa isang article sa internet bro. Learning how to bend is a "must" for blues players...

BTW, i think the harmonica is the "sexiest" instrument. Just look at the different terms related to harp playing:
-suck (draw)
-blow
-bend
-holes
-cupping
-tongue technique
-and many more, hehehe...
