Title: Ano nangyari sa Remo Encore ko?

I was practicing with my kit kanina then i took a short break. after a few minutes i went back to my kit and i noticed something weird with my snare drum head. Wala siya sa tono. so tinono ko siya. ayaw niya matono. so i decided to retune the whole thing starting from "finger tight". ayaw talaga niya. then i took off the head and saw this:
Thats a Remo Encore BA snarehead which i bought second hand a few months ago pero almost new pa. Tinest lang nung previous owner then tinanggal niya tapos binenta sakin. ano kaya nangyari sa drumhead ko? maayos pa kaya ito?

Ayan, I think that's how Remo US differs from Remo Encore.
Same sound quality kasi same film material, pero different ang pagkadikit ng head sa steel insert ring.

over tightening + encore = your situation :|
I believe with what most of our fellow drummers say, quality of Encore's are not as good as the US made Remo's.

di talaga apllicable sa snare yung encore. mas ok kung sa toms lang because it doesn't need too much tight tuning. palitan mu na lang ng remo coated ambs sir.

i see. so hindi talaga pang snare ung encore. thanks for that info!
I tuned my snare sa higher E kasi Key of E kasi ung mga tutugtugin namin next gig. Di ko makuha ung medyo semi high E pitch. anyway, thanks to everyone for the replies! I'll be ordering a remo ambassador from Vinci's drum shop in the next few weeks. :-D

dude parang string ng gitara din ang heads. kung hindi kaya, wag pilitin. kahit anong brand pa ikabit mo dyan masisira talaga lalo na kung may hinahabol kang pitch.

Well in fairness yung Encore snare head ko ay almost 2 years na pero great condition pa. Well i tune kinda loose kase sa Snare. Hehehe
Try the USA made na lang siguro. :-D

1) Barking the wrong tree - If you know how the corporate ladder works.. then you'll understand what I mean.. 2) Blind Cymbal - What did I say?? Did I join the guessing game?? I just gave a WONDERFUL COMMENT as you can see..
Then you don't have any idea of Sandy's role with the tree he's barking at.
His efforts will materialize one way or the other, JB as the reseller can relay the feedback to the maker then Remo might consider their options.
Sandy "WAS" a consultant before of JB Music... I say again... "WAS"... I do appreciate the efforts of sandy infact.. I ask sandy for his choice of cymbals... I got my china and ride based on Sandy... Sandy is good and I'd dare not flame sandy...

No need to overcomplicate things. A product specialist serves to suggest and give feedback. Much like bluesdriver03 asking the Pinoydrums populace about what Yamaha sig snares to bring in. You also have Gep with PDP and Meinl, and black_panther a couple of years ago with Stagg and Mapex.
So I'd say product recommendations and feedback is right up their alley, don't you agree?

Easy lang mga kapatid. Well FYI i "WAS" a consultant of JB before but until now they still get my opinion on anything. So even na hindi nako Employee i still have a voice(Well kinda) sa JB's Drum Department.
Eto yung situation. Nakararating na kasi saken noon pa ang mga reklamo sa Encore coated that's used sa snare. Dahil nga Crimped sha, kaya bumibigay unlike th USA Remo w/c are glued.
So i told the staff not to recomend the Encore Coated for snare uses kasi nga nasisira integrity nung product at nung JB. Sabi ko i push na lang ang US Coated para mas sure kung snare use.
Well one of the bosses heard me and don't agree about my view. So shempre langang pang maka piag talo ako sa Boss so nanahimik na lang ako. Pero this experience shows that I'm right.
Peace na mga bro!! Baka ma lock pato kawawa naman yung Thread maker. Hehehe

Question: Are the encore snare heads discontinued at JB? Toms and kick heads are still available at JB btw..
Added info... I just got hold of a Drum Dial by the way and "ON AVERANGE" snares are set at 90 tension while the reso side is at 80-85 tension.. Heres the thing... My Batter is REMO Emperor X and my reso is the stock Gretch skin. Batter side can have a tension of 95 though I find it very tight.. The Reso I tried 87 tension then "CRACK" broken head..
Moral of the story.. over tightening a "normal" head like my stock Gretch breaks more than the high end heads..

to throw my 2 cents in, actually, i think in general, kahit mamahalin na head o local trak head, masisira talaga pag over-tightened. or at very least, mamamatay yung tunog ng drum/or drumhead, since overtightening it makes it literally stiffer and hence hindi na gagalaw yung head with the soundwave of the drum hit (forgive me for a lack of a better term).
and my experience with encores, hindi ko talaga makuha yung sound na gusto ko pag sa snare ko siya nilagay. and, reiterating what has been said, mas ok siya sa toms or kick (though sa toms ko pa lang nasubukan besides the snare, never ko pa natry maglagay ng encore sa kick).
for toms, in my opinion medyo nasa gitna ng clear ambassadors and pinstripes ang sound ng encores.

tension settings sa Toms is around 72-80 lang dude (as per drum dial ah)... So the issue with the GLUE between Pinstripes and Encore is then not applicable when it comes to TOM..
Kick Settings (again as per drum dial) is almost same (75-80).. And again, use Pinstripes or Encore sa Kick is really not an issue.. so Go Encore nalang sa toms at kick ... mas cheap pa!!

It is also possible that cheaper heads are harder to tune because of the head's poor sitting in its rim. You may wonder why you still have that "wrinkle" on your drum despite of even tuning...some would just try to get the best sound possible with that situation while others might try to overtighten the nearest lug to remove it...result...an uneven tension. I would suggest that to ensure a good sound aside from tuning...check the head/s you are about to buy. Make sure the skin is evenly sitted on the aluminum brace of a drumhead...hope this helps.

did i missed something? :-D hehe. solved na siguro si sir ira. SHORT SUMMARY: 1. use encores for kicks and toms only 2. check the drumhead before buying 3. over tightening shortens drumhead life 4. JB music should now agree w/ sandy's suggestion regarding encores. haha 5. we are brothers and sisters here in pinoydrums.

tension settings sa Toms is around 72-80 lang dude (as per drum dial ah)... So the issue with the GLUE between Pinstripes and Encore is then not applicable when it comes to TOM..

The replies in this thread is very informative. except lang doon sa flames. ewan ko kung bakit nagkaron ng ganon. haha. anyway.
Yun nga. Bibili na ako ng Remo Ambassador para sa snare ko. I learned na crimped ang encores at hindi glued so hindi talaga siya pwede sa snare drum. But i still want to use encores sa toms and kick (sobrang tipid ako eh). san ba nakaka bili at magkano kaya ung 12", 16", and 22" na encore? :-D Getting tired of Lazer heads.

Yup, its ok for toms, im currently using it for my 10" tom, but there are times na kahit naka-tune na you can really see the curves sa head,,probably due to the crimping method they use to attach the head to the rim...

JB (and the Salonga/Manila Music sister stores) has lots of stocks of these. 10" up to 22", may Encore Pinstripes sila. Unlike the BA coated Encores (which are 1-ply), the Encore Pinstripes are double-ply ha. Lower-pitched sound, medyo muffled. Something to note lang. :-)

ganun pala mga Encore...easy lang pala dapat sa pagtotono hehe invest nalang kaya sa mas magandang heads? after ko bumili nung coated pinstripes (pang snare)..i swore by it :lol: hanggang ngayon gamit ko pa din at nakailang tono nako dun..ok pa din tunog niya :-)

Aww, akala ko meron locally. Gusto ko sana kasi i-tame yung snare ko, pero gusto ko yung warmth ng coated heads.

"The "Encore" drumhead is an aftermarket head that we produce in our Taiwan facility. The film is similar to that used in Remo American made "Weatherking" production, however, the structure is crimped (Aluminum channel, around a steel insert ring) versus the "Weatherking" which is an open channel poured (Glued) head. The crimped design in most cases, is used in mid-line original equipment manufacturing and sold into more price concious aftermarket areas.
The crimped configuration fatigues at a quicker pace than the poured head.
Due to the stresses that the film sees in the production of a crimped head, the great majority of drummers and drum manufacturers agree that the sound of the poured head is significantly superior to that of the crimped head.

hehehe tama n gulo mag papasko n mga bro - nagulat ako s mga post dito, anyways i'm using encore din s snare as in same ng gamit nya wala naman ako naging problem mukhang ntighten ko din ng to the max to kc nga naghahabol ako ng tunog ng parang picollo - cguro mas maganda gamitin s snare is yung remo fiberskyn - sino n nkapag try nito at ano s tingin nyo mga bro?

Buti nabuhay itong thread na ito. Plano ko pa naman sanang palitan ng ENCORE heads yung pang ilalim tsaka ibabaw ng snare ko. Siguro ipon muna ng konti para makabili ng clear & coated ambassadors for my snare.
