Practice with a metronome. Build up the accuracy in hitting notes. Speed will follow.
-
- google some guitar lessons
- practice as often as you can
- don't give up
i can't shred but i'm doing those things i stated. :-)
-
I heard the best advice was to practice
-
PRACTICE lang dude.. And get a METRONOME for speed and accuracy.
-
hmm... metronome = muscle memory = accuracy = speed...
nagmemetronome na ko... still no speed...

Speed will follow. Increase mo tempo once in a while, tapos try mo din ipush yung sarili mo into playing with a faster tempo than the usual mo na ginagamit.

panahon kailangan para makuha mo yun. hindi lang months but years. :) metronome is ok, pero dapat never mag papasma, kasi one reason ng pag buhol at nginig ng fingers eh.
-
A Metronome is a BIG help for me.

ako din...Influenced by a lot of blues players... I'm a shred stick slinging blues kid. minsan, i use fast runs to add a bit of flavor lang to my improvs..
-
@TS
also look for the perfect pick, and the perfect picking angle for you.
youtube videos also help.
most of all, practice. 2-3 hours a day. :-D

im not that much to shredding too but i just wanted to try it...
-
sana makatulong kahit onti :)
1. keep in mind the economy of motion
- start slow
- moving your hands faster wont allow you to play really really fast
- precise movements para efficient
- economy picking
- less is more
2. remain calm and don't get carried away
- remaining calm will allow you to make precise movements
- play with the least amount of tension
3. take your pick
- most players who are into shredding prefer picks that are very thick or those jazz picks.
- the guitar string should conform to the movement of your pick, not the other way around
playing near the bridge will cause the strings to vibrate faster (which will slightly aid in playing fast) unlike playing near the neck which will make the strings vibrate wider

speed is only a side effect. practice accuracy and precision. establish your comfort zone first then practice outside it.
labo no  don't worry dude, with the right amount of practice, you'll only get better.
-
practice! practice! practice! (i think i'm saying these to myself..lol)
muscle memory and time are the things you need to be able to shred on your guitar... and try to look for Jazz III picks... shred on!!!
ps: try learning economy and alternate picking (for your right hand)
and just practice different kinds of scales with that and you are on your way...
METAL ON!!!

master the alternate picking and economy picking with a metronome. thats your weapon to shred

i use jazz III now... :-P
speaking of jazz III picks...i saw and bought some picks on a store (di ko na lang banggitin baka may magalit) last year and para silang fake... like "cut outs" from a piece of plastic (parang sa laruan...rough edges). i asked kung bakit ganun. sabi nung nagtitinda kahit sila nagtataka. may nakabili ba sa inyo ng ganito? good thing i have one or two na reserba na nabili ko like 2-3 years ago.
-
o kaya practice ka.. slow and easy till bumilis din yan eventually.. but remember to practice the right technique, not just the need for speed..
ako? sa chix ako nagpapractice ng daliri e. ayun.. awa ng libog bumillis naman. gusto mo pakitaan kita ng shredding ala beerhouse? puro "ah ah" "oh oh" tsaka "yeah that's it!" ang tone na lumalabas e.
-
from lessons i was taught the following things for efficient and fast picking:
-practice. muscle memory is key.
-dynamics. pay attention to how you pick and fret notes then practice the correct method for playing.
-study how your fretting hand plays notes and adjust so that you transition seamlessly from one note to the other or from one pattern to another if you are playing compound passages.
-play with a metronome and vary the speed so you ramp up in a given period of time.
-
just focus and enjoy shredding potato :D
-
Practice, Practice and Practice......
that's the basic practice of learning and don't stop learning
-
-
metronome is like a treadmill.
:)
-
in case wala kang metronome sa bahay. hope this helps.

hmm... metronome = muscle memory = accuracy = speed...
nagmemetronome na ko... still no speed...
how long have you been using a metronome?
the speed won't instantly happen...
here are some things you can try out when practicing with a metronome...
1. practice without any effects... use the clean channel of your amp... do this throughout your regimen...
2. create a calendar for your speed regimen... remember to start really slow... if you can, start at 40bpm then increase the speed when you can really play those licks you want to play cleanly at that specific speed... again, only increase the speed when you have truly played the lick cleanly... set clear and attainable goals for each day of your calendar...
3. stop practicing for 5 minutes if you feel even the slightest bit of pain...
4. do not do anything else when practicing... focus on fretting and picking the strings right to get the right note... be conscious of your sound...
5. you'll feel very frustrated, sleepy, and bored when you do those things above... but that's what you need to do to get the speed you want... so be patient... breathe in and out when you get frustrated... stop practicing and do something else... then return to your guitar and finish the schedule you made for that day...
i, for one, am not able to play any speed licks... but my goal is not to play faster... my goal is to be able to just play the guitar enough to make people listen and enjoy the music...
good luck!

Uh, porn for the right hand. Girlfriend for the left. Haha. Kidding.
Get Rock Discipline by Petrucci or Speed Mechanics of Troy Stetina.
-
paul gilbert. intense guitar. :-D
-
pero the downside of shred is maintain the speed level :-D
-
first listen to what shred stlye you dig pare..listen listen...tapos kilalanin mo yang artist anu ba ang mga tricks ang tips nya..tapos ensayo ensayo ensayo by metronome and free time..iba iba kasi ang shredding stlye..
-
... or Speed Mechanics of Troy Stetina.

if you're on a tight budget and you can't buy a metronome from a store, or you don't have net access at home, this is what you can use as a substitute...
use the 'second hand' when practicing... that's exactly 60bpm...
-
Practice your alternate picking & legato playing.
-
saan po ba makakabili ng metronome?? :?
