Title: NITOY ADRIANO (another point of view)
Post by: mon116ph on May 26, 2006, 09:21:08 AM

I just have the copy of The Jerks second album under major label..

Kasi yung yung first album nila na produce ni Gary Granada yung the Jerks live di ko rin gaanong trip dahil sa sound quality.

I usually dig heavy fast and brutal thrash metal band..Yung mga tipong barubal gaya ng Anthrax,Annhilator,Death Angel,Slayer etc.

I just hooked up with this The Jerks album completely napakinggan ko.

I like guitar leads sa track na "Rage"...

walang daya..walang kaletseheng guitar effects..

Sarap maging SIMPLE at KLARO..

GANITO TALAGA PAG TUMATANDA KAILANGANG TONE DOWN NA and I LEARN now appreciating "True Musician".

Peace out

haha, same here sir.

sabi nga ng isang forumite... if its too loud, your too old... sabi ko naman... ok lang na old at least marami nang pambili ng GAS!!! hehehe

If memory serves me right, I remember meeting him way back around 2000 or early 2001, when I was checking out a RAT pedal that a friend of mine told me was being sold by another friend of his..

It was somewhere down south - BF Parañaque, I think - where my friend brought me to the seller. And guess who was there jamming with him..

.. Nitoy Adriano, in the flesh!  :)

Now, I must emphasize here that at the time, I had already heard of The Jerks, but since I'm not really a rock fan, I didn't really have any idea of how good he was ..

Well, all I can say is .. even on a borrowed Strat, and using that particular RAT pedal that the guy was selling, Nitoy's playing sounded so tasteful!

It's not the kind of shred or 'gulpi-di-gulat' playing that comes from playing a million-notes-a-minute, but more like that slow simmer and burn that comes from someone who knows the value of a carefully-placed single note ...

Merong magaling mag-gitara ... pero hindi masarap pakinggan

Merong masarap mag-gitara, kahit simple lang ginagawa ...

Si Nitoy, masarap mag-gitara ...

 :)

And despite being the 'rock star' that he is, Nitoy definitely doesn't go around with the 'air' or pompous ego of typical rocksters ...

His humility is really very admirable, to say the least ...

He doesn't really make such a big fuss about his playing (no matter how many people compliment him about it) ..

He doesn't lecture you about 'tone' and how he gets his because he has this, or that ...

Watching him play is really a lesson in itself ... a lesson where you can see for yourself that REGARDLESS of what he's using, he can pretty much sound like himself EVERYTIME ... and that, to me, is one of the definining qualities of a real 'artist'

He'd always talk about always wanting to listen to his favorite players - Beck, Carlton, etc ..

And more than anything else, he makes you realize the more important thing: that no matter how good or bad you are as a musician, you are a human being first and foremost, and he treats you accordingly, regardless of who you are or how good you are as a guitarist ..

Wish we had more of his kind ...

The best way to listen to Nitoy Adriano:

go early to 70's Bistro on a Friday. Pick the table off to the left side of the stage. The amp he uses is right in front of that table. It's so close you can read what kind of speakers are in the amp!

one more cool thing about nitoy.... sobrang down to earth guy siya. simple lang porma, saya kausapin at ang bait pa. pero pag hawak na niya guitar on stage, wala ka na kelangan gawin kundi sumamba.

damn nice tone!!!

we always go to 70s bistro to watch the jerks kasama si haey2, at walang mintis ang pagtaas ng tingin namin kay nitoy. too bad baka magsara ang 70s bistro...

Unforgettable Nitoy moment: pinatunog nyang mala-Fender Rhodes yung gitara nya sa isang song... using his Strat, Rat (naka-off), Marshall Valvestate ng Hobbit.... mind blown!

Baka ang ibig sabihin nung filmmaker, di sya marunong mag scala as finger exercise.

Watched the film, and frankly the director wasted this opportunity to tell Nitoy's story.  The giant that is Nitoy Adriano was reduced to a footnote to the rambling that is the entire film. Nitoy and his story deserves treatment from the hands of a more capable storyteller.
