Just want to share to others, well we all know that moon gels are going to cost us about 300php to 500php a pack... so here's an alternative... I just recently thought of this... There's a product of BOSTIK called "Blu Tack" ever heard of it? you can get it at a hardware store, ace hardware, handyman etc... costs about 50PHP per pack, and this is a reusable adhesive gum... shape it, stick it whatever you want! don't worry it wont ruin your heads kasi madali lang siya tanggalin, it's not so sticky naman and wont leave your head oily.. works just like a regular moon gel, the best part is you can shape it! It's your decision whether to put on a small dot for a more open drum sound or damp your head with bigger sized dot... Keep drumming fun!!!

nope, hindi siya tumitigas agad, no need to wash really, it's 100% removable, hindi kelangan kutkutin, dumidikit siya best sa kauri niya so get some more blutack or use the one you've already removed and collect pieces left sa head by "tapik tapik" gang sa sumama lahat ng natira dun sa pinangtapik mo, gets ba? hirap explain sa words.. parang rugby!!! but i don't think you'll have this kind of problem kasi madali lang talaga tanggalin, I've used it on practice kanina (mga kasinglaki ng thumbnail ginamit ko, pressed it sa upper left side of my snare drum head then viola! instant) tas nung tapos nako practice siyempre kelangan tanggalin, you don't want to leave it there, even moon gels will rot kapag iniwan buong gabi nakalagay sa drum, it dries out right? so SOP remove after playing.. un lang..

ok to nakagamit na ko ng ganito, :-D kaso iba iba yung kulay kung ma-arte ka talo ka, hah parang pink ,green, blue etc ata mga kulay nito e,di ko lang sure kung may 1 kulay lang per pack. :lol:

tama blue.. hehehe blue nga ung akin hehehe i originally bought it para sa mga battery caps ng mp3 player ko, kasi kapag nasira na ung lock ginagamitan ko ng blutack... then kanina naisip kong itry sa snare ko... aun... epektib mga bros and sis! hehe

i think you can also use foam tape... cost around 30-50 pesos at ace hardware.

This thing worked like magic. I was reding this thread earlier, eh nag kataong may ganito yung anak ko, ayun, ninakaw ko! ang maganda pa dito ay di mo na problema mag shape, kasi hugis lizard na!
Downside is : Inaaway na ako ng anak ko!
OT: Namis ko tuloy yung chichirya na cheekadees! :-P

place it where you want it and press it hard making sure na hindi siya tatalsik when you play...

Now to remove it, just roll it out... and if there are tiny pieces left, just take the piece that you've removed and roll on the piece that was left until all the tiny pieces left are gone...

re-usable ba to? ilang gamitan kaya? i mean 3x or 4x na gamitin then tapon na..

REUSABLE to! even more than 3 to 4 times... just keep it clean un lang ung secret... pagmalinis siya mas matagal ung lifespan niya... after use be sure to put it back dun sa waxed paper na balot niya (as seen on the third picture) I've been using it for years sa mp3 player ko to keep the lid intact, hindi ko padin pinapalitan, kasi kapag nadumihan hihina ung stickiness niya.. pagtumigas naman siya just massage it like a clay until lumambot ulit.. the bostik i used for the pictures are quite old na, i mean it's like a year and half old, and they still give the expected results... i think you could use them up to 20 times if they're not dirty... imagine how much you save, 20 times for just a piece of it, while you buy the entire pack for 50Php...

just be sure to really stick it on to the head.
i had an experience sa gig last year. medyo napapasarap palo ko sa isang song bigay na bigay biglang tumalon yung blu tack. hehehe.

Ayan oh experienced user ng blutack haha as seen on the 6th picture, be sure to press it hard para hindi siya tatalsik! hehe happened to me once on my first try, solution "really stick it onto the head!" (the drumhead*not your head) or dagdagan ang amount na gagamitin, the more amount the more surface to stick onto... hehe

(the drumhead*not your head) or dagdagan ang amount na gagamitin, the more amount the more surface to stick onto... hehe
pero remember, the more you put on the head, mas madadampen yung tunog ng drum mo. don't sacrifice your desired sound para lang dumikit ng mabuti yung blu-tack sa drum head.

Pero ako I like yung may over tones padin!! :evil: hehehe...
yung tunog kasi ng snare mo sa malapit (like drummer seat), eh minsan iba ang tunog nun sa malayo (like audience seat). thats why pag nag sound check kami pumupunta ako sa dulong upuan ng audience then pinapa palo ko para marinig ko (kung hindi naka mic yung kit).

Haha apir tayo jan paeng16! gusto ko din ng may overtones... ganun din ginagawa namin during sound check, guys alam niyo ba ung feeling ng pinapasound check mo sa hindi marunong pumalo? haha they just couldn't get the best sound your snare has to offer kaya hirap magpasoundcheck... anyways, this is still just an alternative for moon gels, doesn't mean i or we don't like overtones, just sharing the idea... keep on drumming people! 8-)

Didn't know this thread existed until now...
My daughter has been using this just for anything, pinaglalaruan nya...she called it "sticky tacks"...it came in a pack with rainbow colors...nung tiningnan ko naisip ko pwedeng gawing muffler ng drums, ni hindi ko pa alam yung moon gels noon. I bought the black sticky tacks (around P 65 sa national bookstore). Good thing about it is you can experiment with the sizes since you can just tear off an amount at a time and just increase or lessen to suit your taste. When I got to know about moon gels, I always had this thought whether they really work and are much better than sticky tacks dahil ang gaganda ng review. Thanks to this thread wala na yung alinlangan na yan ngayon...

i have recently purchase some moongel just to try it out.
of course, price-wise mas mahal yung moongel compared to blutack.
but sound-wise, ang layo ng lamang ng moongel.
at least, according to my ears as i was playing my snare on which i've put it on.
and, hindi siya tumatalon no matter how hard i hit.
at mas ok din siya tingnan hehe.
washable naman ang moongels. and like any part of the drumset, alagaan niyo lang at wag abusuhin, pwedeng tumagal ang isang pack ng moongel with constant use for over a year (maybe even more).

Agreed,.. all items is constructed in their specific purposes,..
although "blu tacks" feels like moon gels,
moon gels is specially made for a specific task,..

pwede naman po sta idikit half part sa skin, half part sa rim,.. or your choice how much surface you want to sit in your batter :-)
