Title: What do you guys think of Oak and Bubinga?
Post by: tipsyboy on October 07, 2010, 12:34:18 AM
What do the people here think of Oak, both as a drum stick and a drum?
I haven't heard an Oak drum set yet, and I've always wondered what it would sound like.
And, I've been thinking of buying a pair of Oak sticks, maybe Pro-Mark or Tama. What do you guys think?

a quick review for "GTX" 7A oak drumstick

its so light, and not recommended, its tip easily tear apart forming a pointed tip that might damage your precious batter heads  :|
sad to say but IMO generic "oak" stick will never help

about oak drum shells, i'm too sleepy to research for that, maybe later afternoon

Ung mga generic na oak sticks true, hassle. I used to have a couple of promark millennium II sticks. Man, they are heavy! Solid feel and sound, grat for back beats. Matagal siya bago masira and they only make marks on the wood pag nag rimshot ka. Pinahiram ko ung pair ko kaya hindi ko na nagamit ulit, pero if I were using them I bet buhay pa sila till today.

About sa wood for shells. There is a great description of oak in the drum tuning bible. Search mo nalang sa google. :)

japanese oak if i'm not mistaken yung sa promark, matigas talaga siya at pangmatagalan! yamaha offers oak custom sets also AFAIK. in terms of sound itself, highly resonant and punchy ang tunog, produces nice overtones IMO! :-D

So basically, generic Oak sticks generally suck, but branded Japanese Oak sticks are pretty tough.
I checked out sites that discuss Oak drum shells and they were really helpful. Apparently, Oak is very loud and has a nice tonal range.

Which brings me to my next question: what do you guys think of Bubinga?  :-D I've read online reviews, but I'd like your input as well.

SO TRUE SIR!

I did hear that Oak sticks tend to tire the hands faster because it's heavier and harder, which means there are more vibrations getting absorbed by the wrists. What do you guys think?
