Wow! hi brother! canon 550D user here..  :-D
sabi ng ka office ko 55-250mm EF IS daw maganda .. hmn.. all around naman ata kasi.. sa flickr nag search ako may mga taong nakaka pag macro ng gamit 55-250mm. search mo sa flickr canon 55-250mm tapos lalabas ung mga pictures na may quote picture details using 55-250mm.
OR try 18-200mm EF IS.. mas maganda un kasi standard range to standard zoom.

You can imagine this is your camera with the 55-250mm

Prime!
-Canon 50mm f1.8
-Canon 50mm f1.4
-Sigma 50mm f1.4
-Canon 85mm f1.8
-Sigma 85mm f1.4
-Sigma 30mm f1.4

I like both siggys the best.
If you have the dough, go for the 17-55mm, L type lens in a EFS body.

im sure after months of using your dslr you will lust one too. mahal siya kung mahal pero it delivers naman talaga. photography was, is and will be an ex

siguro kung group shot plus portraits i would recommend focal range of 17-40 canon or 17-50 2.8 sigma or tamron.
1:1 copy, sharp and very reliable pang portraits.

thanks sa mga suggestion guys , di ko pa kaya yung L lens ang mahal di ko pa kaya ma afford. btw im leaning towards the sigma 50mm 1.4 . maganda naman kasi ang mga review, though im torn between sigma 50mm 1.4 at 85mm 1.4 sigma. ano ang mas all around sa kanila? noob question lang nakakapag macro shots din ba to? bagohan pa kasi ako sa photography thanks guys

Great suggestion yung 17-40mm L one of the least expensive luxury lens of canon. If you want to upgrade from kit to a better lens go for this, 32k for a BRANDNEW grey market lens. Save up an extra 7k na lang, and you'll get the following:
-better image quality
-L
-Build quality
-good investment for the future, just in case you decide to go full frame
-constant f4 all through out
-more range than a prime(duh?)
-many more. lol.

I havent tested out the 100mm 2.8 macro pero sabi nila mabagal yung AF niya.
Another wise choice yung 50mm 1.8. cheap but delivers good photos.
Siggys 85mm 1.4 is expensive, aroung 40k ata, if i'm not mistaken. :)

Or consider din buying an external flash it will bring life to your kitlens

a Flash would be nice.

For me the best learning tool is playing with lighting and maximizing the use of your kit lens.

Title: About Kit Lens
Post by: john_jason on March 23, 2011, 12:36:35 AM
Wala lang, I am just curious kung bakit.

Give me reasons or reactions kung bakit ayaw o pinapalitan nila ang Kit Lens.
To be specific kung anong lens -> EF-S 18-55 IS :-)

a very good question sir.

may nakausap akong pro-photographer ang sabi nya you need to maximize first the kit lens before hopping to the next level of lens or upgrading.. eto ay pwedeng ma apply sa mga beginners . sabi pa nya you need to make the most out of that kit lens.

Yup pretty good discussion.

Kit lens is still way cool. Im trying to pry my nikon 18-70mm lens from my insan kase oks naman sya.
Still some folks prefer wider apertures and be less reliant on tripods and flashes to have a different look and feel on their images.

I still want my kit lens back by the way.

kasi para sa iba, ito yung pinakamababang lens. ako i use my kitlens, ganda ngang pang macro eh, at very sharp sya.

ounga kelangan mo pa i maximize ang kit lens mo para di mo pag sisihan ang pag upgrade mo , unang choice ko eh bumili ng lens , napag isipan ko an di ko pa to na mamaximize kaya flash nalang muna

i used my kit lens for almost 2 years.

Mabagal na yung autofocus for me.
Too plastic na yung build

ako sir medyo namamaximize ko na yung kitlens ko, im using it for landscape and macro. ok naman sya for me. kaso parang naghahanap lang ako ng mas wide pa kaya im going for UWA this summer. kapag magpapalit ka ng lens make sure of it na malayong malayo ang performance nung bibilhin ko for example, go for mas wide or mas mababa ang aperture para di mo pagsisihan yung purchase mo. hehe. ayun lang.

OT question po. what's an IQ and Exif? lagi ko kasi nababasa yun

EXIF = eto yung shooting details e.g shutter speed, ISO, aperture, focal length, flash/no flash....

Good topic sir, I think nasa photographer yun kung magpapalit sya na nga lens, dipende kasi kung anong concept na gusto nya kuhaan..meron magaling sa telephoto pero sa kit e hindi creative yung kuha.. pero ang kagandahan sa kit is sharp sya and sa tingin ko mas ok talaga for start..

thanks guys for all of your suggestion, i decided to not go to L categories and save up a little bit to get a external flash.. But i narrow my choices to canon 100m macro lens or sigma 50mm 1.4 . both lens have superb reviews and photos in the internet so help me decide guys, which of the two is bang for the buck? and wont regret it?

If you want to upgrade lenses, dont go for 3rd party lenses.  The Canon 100mm f/2.8 is a good lens so is the Canon 50mm f/1.4.  Both are good for low light situations like concerts, indoors.  With the Sigma, you'll have barrel distortion, chromatic aberrations, and vignetting.

Recommending the following lenses as upgrade:
17-55mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8 L, 24-105mm f/4 L - for general walk-around all purpose uses
10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 for landscapes, tight places, family gatherings
100mm f/2.8 macro for portraits, low light conditions, and macro
50mm f/1.4 portraits, low light conditions
70-200 f/4 for portraits, sniping, photowalks

But you have to decide what fields you want to concentrate or focus on.

You'll never go wrong with Canon lenses on your Canon camera.

You can always have it calibrated. I personally like the siggy 50mm better than cannon's.. I just didn't have enough dough for it when I bought my canon. :)
