Title: Has anybody tried making a DIY sustainer?
Post by: stringman on July 28, 2011, 03:40:16 PM
I just finished refretting my Fernandes strat. I got this strat more than 2 years ago and it had the provisions for an active pickup. I don't want to install active pickups but makiing a sustainer project has got me going. Has anybody here tried one? Been looking for schematics at the internet but none that I found complete.

there are sustainer projects at DIYSB which used a transducer (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=83559.0) and another using a "pickup driver" (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=83738.0), havent had time to build one myself pa :-(

Someone from projectguitar.com had a similar project. I followed his progress for months. So much trial and error went on. He got it to work to some extent, but I don't think he got close to where he wanted to be. Considering the time, effort and money he invested on the project, I'd rather just buy a Sustainer kit.

Depende rin kasi sa intention mo... do you really want a usable guitar within a short amount of time which you'd be proud to play on stage, or do you just want to tinker and practice your DIY skills without minding too much even if the project turns out to be an epic fail?

Regardless of the guitar itself, that should gauge a real Sustainer kit's worth to you, hahaha....

More of the DIY route. I don't play nowadays except when I have the time to go to Pete's.

found this schematic around the web:

now the prob is, walang indicated na component values. LOL :-D
might as well trace it from a Sustainer Kit, though...
