I love Bagets Mendez, Zach Lucero, Jayvee Torres, Koko Bermejo, Harley Alarcon, and Mike Alba.
I love Raims' studio drumming on all Eheads album. I have yet to listen to the new Dong Abay.

It's hard to choose one but here are my choices in no particular order.
Jun Regalado (my master: the jedi obi wan kenobi of RP drumming), Jun Boy Leonor (magaling din mag badminton!), Robert Dela Cruz (tug tu tu pa tug brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....), the drummer of Death by Stereo, Wowowilly Revillame, Ria Bautista (she puts up a good show each time i see her and she's cute herself), Harley Alarcon (miss u pare!), Vic Mercado (true talent, diverse, versatile etc..). :P

dapat kasi maglabas ng mga instructional video ang mga pinoy drummers eh para naman mas makilala pa sila ng mga baguhang drummer ngayon. hindi yung puro foreign ang iniidolo natin.

totoo!!!!!...... maraming pinoy na malulufet pro lhat cla nagtuturuan (HUMBLE).... sir jun regalado when i first saw him sa mega band ni sharon cuneta Idol ko na yun ngyn pa lalo na ung nag clinic sya sa megamall with MIke mangini last 2004 lufet!! dami pa like: michael alba (master) koko bermejo(jazz) harley alarcon(funky) drummer of radioactive sago project(forgot his name) wendell of barbie's cradle.............. vic mercado mar dizon

Koko Bermejo.
I was fortunate enough to watch him play when he was attending school back in the day. BTW, he can play incredible keyboards, bass and guitar too.

the only thing I don't like in boss Koko, and this is just me....mejo nayayabangan ako. Seen him twice play with Cynthia. Cynthia gave a solo spot to the tabla player and Koko barged in after only a few bars. And he keeps standing up to bow. He even praises himself. I could hear him brag about his drumming to Cynthia cause I was in front for twice their show and for both sets.
He is good don't get me wrong. Andi I put him amongst my top 5 best drummers in RP. But, I like Zach with Cynthia better. Mas laid back.
Other than that, whew, bow down ako.

Yeah, Koko is quite a proud man. I notice that too. But let's face it... May Karapatan talaga siya magyabang (yes, that's a capital 'K'). Jedi Master yang si Koko. Kaya, let's just sit down and enjoy Koko's amazing music and artistry.

yes i agree! my piece of mind: i personally dont think he's mayabang, but he is assertive and outspoken and a person with a very high self-esteem...not shy to share his thoughts or speak his mind nor show his skills and tell you anything and everything he knows or believes in, it could be painful or offensive, but sometimes thats the price you get for honesty or sincerity. and sometimes we filipinos tend to see this strong character as kayabangan, which is unfair. but see, we cant confuse high self esteem and assertiveness with kayabangan. Koko is by far a musical genius and there is no need to get emotional about it. :P

Well-said! That's true. I'm privileged to meet and know Koko, and yes, ganun nga siya. He's exceptionally great in what he does, he knows his stuff, at buong buo ang loob niya. The man is indeed a genius. You cannot fool the guy. Idol yan. Aprub! 8)

isn't anybody gonna mention roy mercado? ace session drummer yan, and most probably the mostin-demand right now, both in concerts and recordings. his playing is far from flashy, but his sense of groove is impeccable. you hear his playing every sundays at ASAP, and pinoy idol, and several high profile concerts...
he's the brother of ric mercado, who is also among the best session-guitarists in this country today, and the owner of that sweet-sounding $5K taylor guitar...
no relation to vic, as far as i know.

I really dont like comparing and bumping each drummer's egos. We're all different in our own way, in my opinion, it's not competition. It's pure blessing to be with one another and learn together. So, sakin, its not for us to compare. It's a matter of asking, who is the most respectable of them all. :-D

Im not a psychophant here,mga pare; pero the best drummers for me are those who are actively engaged in the promotion of the Art of Drumming and Brotherhood among Drummers. Walang iba kundi sina JP Buduan, Anthony Dio at Peeves. Kung wala ang mga yan, tagahanga na lang siguro ang marami sa atin dito.
Hmmmmm..... Meron pa bang ibang grupo ng drummers sa Pinas na bukod sa araw araw nag f-forum eh nagkikita-kita once a month? Libre tips, lesson at asaran?!?
...Kaya IKAW na laging nakatambay dito sa Pinoydrums ay isa din sa mga da best! :-D

master micheal alba (one of the best drummers in the phils) ernie severino (galing sa hi-hat like a metronome "idol") Sir jun Reglado (havent seen him play but he's one of them) Mar dizon (awesome sa jazz and funk)
last ko nakita lahat na nagdrumsolo sa Dennis Chambers Drum Clinic sa meralco theater.......except vic and mic.......hindi pa endorser si mic alba and vic mercado before yung nasa clinic ni dennnis chambers. I was there with mic alba during the clinic.
Vic Mercado? ok lang. hindi ko kase nadig yung drum solo's nya sa bamboo or recent clinics but i know nagpaturo din sya kay Micheal Alba...........So, magaling din.

totoo!!!!!...... maraming pinoy na malulufet pro lhat cla nagtuturuan (HUMBLE).... sir jun regalado when i first saw him sa mega band ni sharon cuneta Idol ko na yun ngyn pa lalo na ung nag clinic sya sa megamall with MIke mangini last 2004 lufet!! dami pa like: michael alba (master) koko bermejo(jazz) harley alarcon(funky) drummer of radioactive sago project(forgot his name) wendell of barbie's cradle.............. vic mercado mar dizon
Jay Gapasin ang ngalan nya,, drummer ng radioactive sago, teacher ko sa UP. Yan ang no.1 para sakin sa scene kahit na tulalangtulala tlga ako kina Vic, Nino Regalado, Mar Dizon at Master Harley. Haha :-D
naaaapakahumble ni sir Jay,, nung last session namin napatanong n lang ako out of curiosity, "ser, teka lang po, ano pa bang band ung tinutugtugan nyo".. sagot nya eh .."ah, radioactive sago..." hahaha, natulala na lang ako eh, kasi not once sya nagpakita ng flashy drum patterns o kaya kahit anong showy stuff, pero talagang napakagaling nya. Amazing lang talaga, ang nakakatuwa pa sa lahat e member sya dito sa philmusic, pero hindi sya ganun ka-active sa boards. Actually, Sya nga ang nagrecommend sakin ni2ng site nung nagtanong ako kung saan magandang makabili ng cymbals, haha. Tapos sabi nya rin eh madami daw akong matutunan dito, :wink: :-) grateful talaga ako sknia, isang napakabuting mentor at napakahusay na musikero

actually, tek's drumming abilities is rather underestimated. sometimes, all the song really calls for is a basic rhythm. restraint is the thing that most musicians have to deal with. the more mature ones have already done so.

Mas ok pa nga yung simpleng pag drums na masarap kaysa yung panay ang solo at licks sa iba't ibang lugar sa mga kanta. May saying nga na mas mahirap ang rests kaysa yung notes. Ang isang disiplinadong musiko ay marunong kung kailan poposte at kailan maglalagay

that's probably why people idolize the flashy drummers, not the disciplined ones, like john robinson (not the 80's rapper), who happens to be among the most recorded drummers in history.
tek faustino is that kind of a musician. his best skill to his ability to keep time and rhythm, which is surprisingly not characteristic of most drummers who do the flashy stuff (batu-bato sa langit...). it would be interesting to note that all lot of drummers who solo well can't keep time. among his best assets too is his great memory. all he needs to learn a long medley is to listen to it twice...
kadalasan, yung mga hindi nagagalingan kay tek, ang hinahanap nila yung mga mahihirap na ginagawa ng ibang drummer, o kaya yung mga mahihirap na solo at binabaligtad na palo at umiikot na 'stick'... kung minsan , nakakalimutan na ng mga drummer kung ano talaga ang trabaho nila...(batu-bato ulit...)

I agree with my ever student migz at si Sir marvinq.. iba ang degree ng discipline ni Sir Tek.. for the groove ng song talaga.. hindi yung panu mo malalagay tong signature licks mo sa kanta.. hay... at migz.. inaantay ko na ung papadala mong double pedal na axis ha? hehe

yung drummer ng Parokya Ni Edgar! why? here are some of the reasons:
1. he's got soul! he is not very technical BUT you can always hear his solid backbeat and groove.
2. he doesn't overplay.
3. he's group is a consistent success, if they are making hits consistently then he must be a great drummer. hindi din sila nalalaos, unlike other bands na nalaos or na disband na before sumikat.
4. he rocks! notice how he kept our blood pumping during the inuman sessions? how he put the right drum licks sa mga covers and parodies nila? you might have laughed at their parodies but regarding his musicianship, damn serious.
5. the seiko-seiko wallet parodies... no drums there. but any band that puts that weird song on a record must have a great drummer!

i saw willie R. play ones together with palito when i was staying at quezon city, it was 6 years ago i think... di ko lang maalala if san ung venue kc hindi ko pa kabisado ang Q.C. nun.. sinama lang ako ng uncle ko.. :-D
si palito nag-estaablish ng beat at tempo then si willie nag-percussion.. grabe.. ang galing nila... :-o :-o :-o

Dito sa Pampanga the best syempre si Master Rolly Quizon...isa sa best session drummer din sa manila kaso semi retired na ata sya ngayon...kilala at nirerespeto sya ng mga sikat na drummer na nakalista dito lalu na mga studio/tv show drummers.
dami pa magagaling na drummers sa mga clubs gaya ng mga nasa cowboy grill bars etc.

that's probably why people idolize the flashy drummers, not the disciplined ones, like john robinson (not the 80's rapper), who happens to be among the most recorded drummers in history.
tek faustino is that kind of a musician. his best skill to his ability to keep time and rhythm, which is surprisingly not characteristic of most drummers who do the flashy stuff (batu-bato sa langit...). it would be interesting to note that all lot of drummers who solo well can't keep time. among his best assets too is his great memory. all he needs to learn a long medley is to listen to it twice...
kadalasan, yung mga hindi nagagalingan kay tek, ang hinahanap nila yung mga mahihirap na ginagawa ng ibang drummer, o kaya yung mga mahihirap na solo at binabaligtad na palo at umiikot na 'stick'... kung minsan , nakakalimutan na ng mga drummer kung ano talaga ang trabaho nila...(batu-bato ulit...)
i'd have to agree with this. the best drummers know how to serve the song. and they have "feel" written all over them.
wala sigurong iisang best drummer sa pilipinas. mahirap sabihin kung sino ang best kasi iba-iba naman ang genre.
i would consider mike dizon of pedicab as one of the best in his genre. kahit direcho at simple lang ang groove, grabe yung feel at ang sarap ng tunog! truly one of a kind.

I know marami pang magaling dyan but I think this is the time to give honor to those drummers na nasa underground scene. Sobrang DOWN TO EARTH ang tao na to at cya pa mismo ang mag aalok ng free drum lesson...

i agree! sobrang dami ng magagaling na drummers.. but we have different favorites.. my favorites includes.. wendell garcia, robert dela cruz, bagets, michael alba, and vic mercado..

Sir Mike being my mentor.. I fortunately created a friendship with Vic during Bamboo and Hijo gigs..

Wouldn't say the best pero one of the better ones dito sa pilipinas drummer ng yellow lane. 80s band sila. Solid, tight drumming. Napapalabas pa technical skills nya kahit 80s music tugtugan without overplaying. Very talented group.

They are best in their own forte,I mean in pinas, a metal head would say the best would be macoy of sin,or magat or Robert dela Cruz,against alba or bagets. Same din with fusion guys,hehe.. Either way. :-D

diba si sir Anthony Dio sumasama sa eb series noon? tama ba? napalitan na nga, nakita ko lang din sa fb. si Lester yata nasa ibang grupo na prog din at nag sesession sa isang guitarist noon, blues.

Susie Ibarra is one underrated drummer,she's merging Philippine trad music with drums. She has mad skills also
I once saw a video of her during PASIC, and she was killling the tom mounts. with brushes. Amazing.
Just not sure if she'd count as a "local" drummer/percussionist, being based in the States pretty much the whole time. And of course a Filipino by blood isn't always automatically a local.
