Title: Stories on Stage (may it be Sad, Funny, Weird, Freaky)

Share your experiences at gigs where Sad, Funny, Weird, and/or Freaky things happened.
or someone else's you know or at least saw on stage first hand.
2007 or 2008
I was at this fundraising gig, and there were lots of bands playing, it was all good and fun. then the last band came on, and I think they were the only band who brought their own amps. the venue was at the 2nd floor of a building. so some real effort was given just to carry the amp. I was thinking to myself "yabang! nagdala pa ng 2 x 12 na amp!" (not sure what brand and model though) then pulled out a hardcase, the most expensive guitar I saw at that gig, a Gibson SG.
took them forever to setup, then halfway through the 1st song, a string snaps.there was awkward silence, the guys in the band look at each other, vox/guitarist just stopped and put his guitar down, leaves stage. :eek:

wow 2x12! supposedly, if you have your own gear mas mabilis magsetup. i try to speed up setup time na kelangan organized lahat bago pa sumabak sa stage.
haha midway tumigil. jeez. you don't stop midway due to string breakage. lol

Hindi masyadong swak pero pwede na siguro yung nangyari sa kin nung huling jam natin, Kernel... Sa kalagitnaan ng jam, I had to leave para maghanap ng CR kasi suka ako nang suka due to food poisoning! Hahahaha! :eek: :eek: :eek:

we're supposedly to play 10 songs.. at the middle fifth song we had to finish it without a vox... he had to leave the stage and almost collapsed due to stroke. Luckily he's fine :mrgreen:

college days.
we were playing iron maiden's the trooper as our last song nung biglang umakyat yun karamihan ng audience sa stage at duon na nagslamman hahaha. Sa gitna ng slamman nila, ako nilayo ko na talaga yun pedalboard ko para safe. sad to say, my bandmate did not have time to save his board. nakita ko talaga, parang dinaanan ng stampede yun board niya. parang slow motion pa na nagliparan yun mga ngipin ng equalizer niya HAHAHA. it was a really good gig nonetheless.

highschool days parang semi battle/open jam ata un.. mga noob kami eh. sumali kami kahit wala kaming gamit. haha.
kaya dun lang kami nanghiram cyempre ayaw magphiram ng iba(sinu ba naman gusto magpahiram sa stranger diba) hehe. walang nagpapahiram ng cable.lol buti my nagpahiram na all chix band. pero ang dumi ng tugtug namin. haha. tas nung tumugtug na ung all chix band grabe metal pala sila. haha.

Oo tol... Nahihiya kasi ako kay Kernel. Minsan lang namin makasama yan e. 150 pesos worth na Calamares na binebenta sa kalye ang salarin sa food poisoning na nangyari. :eek:

College days, there's this band who happened to be my friends. They were performing a classic black sabbath song when the vox suddenly forgotten the lyrics in the middle of the song. He tried "to-fill" the silence by re-tying his shoe laces :lol:

Anun meron? : Battle of the Bands.
Saan? : Sa isang barangay malayo sa kabihasnan.
Bakit? : Election kasi, kaya para dumami ang tao, may mga patimpalak.
Papunta na kami sa adlib ng SheWolf (by Megadeth), dun sa may dual guitar na part.
Nang pinahinto ng mga opisyal ng barangay ang tugtugan dahil dumating na si Re-electionist Mayor. Late na dumating, pero dapat mag-speech na pagkadating dahil marami pa siyang pupuntahang mga barangay.
Pinatigil kami sa pagtugtog. Isang oras siya ng speech.
Pagkatapos niya umalis, next band na raw kasi wala nang oras, may Ms. Gay Contest pa raw. "Okay" na raw yung tugtugan namin kanina. Tutal, mataas ang posibilidad na manalo kami.
Pinaghirapan ng mga guitarista naming tapusin yung lead lines ng SheWolf.
Ni hindi pa namin natugtog yung isa naming pinaghirapan na Quicksand Jesus (by Skid Row).
Hindi rin kami nanalo sa contest.

saddest thing for me is whenever the drummer plays 3 times faster than the normal tempo :).. it really disturbs me especially when its my turn to do the guitar solos :cry: :cry: :cry:

Pinaka worst na experience ko is during our dance/party songs, dahil super crowded na yung harapan at umabot na sa stage yung mga nagsasayawan, may nagkainitan na mga mala-wrestlers ang mga katawan :-o The sad part here is tinamaan nila yung Sequencer Rack ko at bumagsak! :eek: Luckily nasalo ng PA ko at wala naman nasira. But we have to stop the set na. Tamaan na ang lahat, kahit mabali pa yung neck ng gitara ko, kahit mabasag pa laptop/ipad ko, wag lang masaktan yung asawa ko (female vox namin). Pag siya ang tinamaan, mamamaril na ako ng mga tao :razz:

UP Fair, mga 5 years ago. Lasing na lasing ang vocalist naming brokenhearted. Halos kaladkarin na paakyat ng stage. E syempre the show must go on kaya salang pa rin. 3 songs lang naman ang set. Wala syang nakanta nang maayos. Wala sa metro, wala sa tono, at hindi maalala ang lyrics. Ilang beses na binubunggo yung mic stand. Kumuha pa ng tao sa audience para kunwari duet sila pero hindi na lang talaga nya kaya. Ipinag-kampanya pa ang kamag-anak nyang pulitiko. Haay. Nakakahiya kasi ang dami kong inimbitang friends tapos nagkalat lang ang isang member at winasak ang set.

got to play session bass for mayonnaise in one of their gigs sa cuneta astrodome..
it's not my first time to session with them pero pagdating netong cuneta gig, nako kinabahan ako sa dami ba namang tao at laki nung stage na yinapakan ko.. yan puro tuloy ako sabit.. haha lagare day yun pagdating naman sa bar gigs swabehan lang. :eek:.
back to the cuneta, set na ng mayo.. eh hanggang 8 lang yung cuneta. mga 7 na kami nakastart.. so mga halfway sa set around 7:30, pinaaalis na yung mga tao nung management kasi strict sila sa time limit... edi nagsisialisan na yung mga tao sa taas.. kaka sad lang makita.

'twas, 2000-2001 We had an impromptu gig sa may bandang tomas morato malapit sa shell..forgot the Sct. Street...we were playing our all original set..sobrang naingayan yung management..kasi expect yata nila acoustic unplugged bands lang (since kasagsagan yun nina Paolo Santos and Jimmi Bondoc) hahahaha...
Nakakalungkot kasi nakakabitin...first time ko naexperience to na naputol yung enjoyment..hyped up pa naman ako kasi, first gig to use a new guitar....first song pa yata yun and nagset up pa kami at nagdala ng gear..hahaha.. BITIN!!

anniv gig ng studio na madalas namin puntahan, we were invited to play..5th band on the bill, nalasing agad yung vocalist/guitarist namin, bago lang yung guitar nya and since halos lahat kakilala namin we were comfy, inabot yata sya ng 5mins magtono, di na namin pinaggitara..atleast all out parin sya sa vocal parts
pero nakakahiya pa rin <_< never ever will that happen again
OT: not a sad story but funny one, i think
may nakasabay kami sa club dredd, 3 piece band..one member was sporting a big afro, all out sa stage..tapos nung nagpapsalamat na sila sa audience, nagsalita yung player..mas maliit pa sa sanggol yung boses, halos lahat kami sa table napabuga ng beer :wink:

played a gig where nakisama lahat ng elements sakin. gear, mood, stomach (before every "big" gig nag susuka ako sa back stage dahil sa kaba). tumugtog na kami't lahat enjoy na enjoy. only to find out after ng set namin na hindi pala narinig ung gitara ko sa PA. ako lang din nakarinig sa sarili kong gitara. :eek:

Ako naman may napanood ako na band sa Las pinas the bar name is KARANCHO bar way back 1999 pa ata un, simama lang ako ng friend ko kasi ung banda nya ang tutugtog,
so eto na, after nila, may nag set ng megadeth cover band 3pis lang sila ang galing nila ung guitarista nila eh nag part time teacher sa yamaha that time at ang ganda ng multi efx nya at kilala sya na magaling talaga, napapansin ko ung adaptor ng multi efx nya medyo nag loose sa electric outlet na malapit sa inhouse sound system ng bar, malaiit lang kasi ung stage, so on and off ung efx nya, kala nya sinasabotahe sya ng house, ayun nagalet as i remember minura nya ung in-house at nag impake ng gear at bumaba ng stage good thing ung bass guitarist at drummer continue parin sila at tinapos ung Holy wars na song,

Kami pinag-perform sa probinsya, sa binggohan. Ang venue sa plaza. E syempre binggohan puro matatanda ang nandun. Dapat ang performance namin before mag-start ang jackpot prize. Sabi ng host, "Eto mag-tugtugan muna tayo, gusto nyo bang magrakrakan muna?", "Hinde! Ituloy na yang jackpot!" sinigaw ng audience.
Inusog kami sa ending.
So pagkatapos makuha ang jackpot, salang agad kami. Binilang ko ang audience...tatlo, yung isa tulog pa. Tuloy pa rin pero parang jam na lang.

May similar experience ako. We have been invited to play on a typical plaza in a baranggay which is unfortunate to be near the squatters area. We played last for that event. As we are setting up on stage they were only a group of "jologs" left as our audience, I noticed that they were planning for something...
We're all set and hit the first note of our first song just to see them "walk-out" in an organized fashion hehehehe :lol: we're playing for nobody literally already. Then the brgy official asked us to stop since there's no more around to watch us and handed out the PAYMENT (in full) :-P
No big deal for me yet it is one of the funniest ever happened in my entire gig life.

I have two, both from highschool.
My first "sad" experience was from a Club Dredd gig during that era when productions were flourishing (circa '92-'94).
I can clearly remember that evening:
There was a full moon, and we all felt funky. Even our buddies who hopped in weren't feeling too well. We had to rush a guy to a nearby clinic before the gig coz he wasn't feeling well.
For some strange reason right before the gig, i sprained my ankle. (i forget the details)
bad luck struck again when we found out that we were getting shoved to be the 2nd last band on the list to perform. I lobbied against it, to no avail.
Right when we were about to get onstage, the last band pushed in and set up, to our shock and dismay.
They ended their (horribly noisy, cacophonous) set, dismantled their gear and left.
We get onstage, then just as we were about to begin, the lights suddenly got switched on... Didn't to play a single tune.
Second story, at some sports complex in Cavite.
We rehearsed like crazy, and made our way to the place. it was supposed to be a big local event, and there were HEAPS of bands, IIRC, 40 or something.
We were early and had a soundcheck. Then sat back and chilled, watching the other bands, deflecting the folks that wanted to borrow our gear (c'mon man! bring your own stuff!)
it was our turn to perform (close to the very last again - we must've sucked! hahah) then right after in the middle of the 2nd or 3rd song folks started running out of the complex.
a guy came in wielding a gun and threatened to shoot people. he was a local that couldnt tolerate the noise much longer.
our drummer froze as the guy pointed his gun at him. i snuck away from the stage, i felt that the guy was mighty pissed but wouldnt exactly shoot people.

B.O.T.B. sa school., 2 songs., 1 original (I made one) and 1 cover(seek and destroy) 1 week practice, all is set, good to go!
Then, sa gabi ng patimpalak., nag-back-out si kantatero., wala nang ibang pwedeng pumalit., kaya ako ang pinakanta nila kasi ako din naman ang gumawa ng composition. OK., Go!
Seek and Destroy = forgot the last stanza., tulaley lang ako habang nag r-riff hanggang natapos yung song., after the event., nabansagan ako na "sumira sa reputasyon ng Metallica" :eek:

3 years ago wala pa kong sariling gamit so boy buraot, sira yung jack na binigay sakin di tuloy ako makagalaw at battle of the bands pa yun nawawala wala ang tunog ko at mahirap pang ayusin dahil kumakanta ako at 3 piece band lang kami :cry: :lol:

hahaha... ok, so there was this one gig when francis (treblinka), paeng (paengkee) and i had a gig. our drummer booked the gig and it was quite far.
we drove on the way there, and it was so dark and i was still learning how to drive, i ended up hitting one of the islands lol good thing it was low, so it ddnt really mess up anything apart from my wheel alignment.
when we got there, no one was there except for the bar staff and the organizers posse who couldnt care less. we were asked to go on ... and we were like "now?!"
so we got onstage ... weve never seen so many empty chairs before lol (which was something, cause at that point, we werent playing to packed shows anyway). we looked at each other ... and it was funny.
drummer was like "meh. its a gig"
paeng had a "lets just finish this" look on his face
francis was just in a state of denial and he kept saying "we are not here" over and over
i asked him "ey man, are you alright?" he never looked at me and kept repeating "we are not here"
as for me ... i did a james brown split onstage while we were still setting up our instruments lol ... and i heard one of the organizers say "oh look! kaya nya mag split!!!"
hahahaha...
i did not know how the gig ended, but it was really really really sad. at least thats how we felt.

hindi naman sad, more like akward.
nag gig kami dati sa center for arts tapos lahat ng kasabay namin puro death metal/ heavy/trash metal. kami lang yung pop rock. hahaha. hindi ako makatingin sa audience e. first band pa ata kami to perform nun.

Not exactly sad, but more of "comedic" - bandmates and I showed up at venue after driving overnight just to get there, only to find out........next week pa pala yung event when asked by the venue custodian "what are you doing here?". To save face, sinimplihan na lang na "advance party....just checking out the venue (pero dala-dala buong rig)......you know, the usual "preparation" thingie". The first hour driving back home was the longest sixty minutes in our lives. No one was talking. After that, napa "Anak ng" yung isa and everyone just burst out laughing. The remainder of the trip was one big laughfest. If the cops pulled us over, they would have thought we were high on jutes.

I have another one, at a gig, our bassist got a little drunk, first song on our setlist was a cover, it was the greatest view by Silverchair, the root chord was "A" i think.
everthing was ok from the intro riff until the first line and first chord of the song,
after which....... our bassist plucked "A" the entire song.
nakatalikod ung bassist at guitarist namin. haha.. sobrang hiya ata nung dalawa.
I can relate to this. Ako naman, pag live gigs na and especially battle of the bands, sobra akong kinakabahan, at lagi akong naka talikod facing the amp assuming na mag-aadjust ako ng EQ. hahahaha. Palusot.

way way back, we got on the bill for one of those bahay ng alumni gigs with a lot of bands listed to play (i remember catching cynthia alexander and barbie and kikomachine iirc) mga 9 pa lang andun na kami but we kept getting bumped further and further down the order because the other bands, for one reason or another, had to leave early or maybe the organizers knew them (and there were some pretty well known bands on the bill) but didn't know anyone in our band until were listed 2nd or 3rd to last to play.
anyway, we got onstage past 2am, our friends had gone home na (5 hours is too long to wait, lalo na if you're sitting on the floor and hindi naman inuman yun), the crowd was thinned to just those who were probably too wasted to get home and by then the amps (i can't remember if they were mic'ed at all, probably not but i think they were valvestate marshalls) had been taking a beating for 5 hours non-stop. first verse pa lang ng first song namin bumigay yung amp ko. completely dead, the power indicator was lit but walang tunog. i switched it off and on and it sputtered on for a while pero wala nang clean tone and, before i can turn around to continue playing, nawala na ulit yung tunog.
within that same song, the amp for the our other guitarist quit na din. the bass amp was working but you couldn't get a clean sound out of it na. aahh the magnificent sound of flubby speakers breathing their last breath.
halos maiyak yung vocalist namin sa inis and we vowed never to play single day events with more than 5 bands listed on the bill, kahit sino pa yung kasabay (since none of us were really into this to "make it" or make a living out of it). and sa buong barkada ako na lang yung hanggang ngayon active pa din. that was the one of the many gigs that convinced them there are lots of easier ways to have fun. :lol:

same story din, just recently..early this year..nalagay kami sa 2nd to the last slot..super dami ng banda as in!! kakalungkot kasi kami kami nalang ang natira at yung last band hiniram pa yung bass..(siguro para di kami umuwi) pero super nainip kami...siguro nga next time piliin nalang yung mga gigs na worth it..at wag na masyadong makipagsiksikan sa super huge lineups..waiting 4 or more hours to play 3 songs is not worth it..buti mag jam nalang sa isang studio with your friends..hahaha

i had issues with our vocalist who had drinking problems.
by the time we're set to play, she's already drunk...
my last gig with her was the worst, her guitar was out of tune or probably tuned to a different key...and I was really, really sweating it out.
it was sad because we were good friends, but I couldn't live playing like that.

happened to a friend of mine back in my high school days:
during our school's open jam night, they were set to cover a song from Typecast yung Boston Drama but he (my friend) forgot the lyrics sa 2nd verse. they were booed and my friend walked out on stage because of the humiliation he received.

Gig sa RJ, yung newbie rhythm guitarist namin naputulan ng strings during a song, malayo ako sa amp nya so di ko napansin yung putol nyang string at yung sound nya afterward, the thing is nung naputol yung string nya tumalikod lang sya at tinuloy pa rin yung kaskas sa gitara. Our song was video recorded and his sound from the video was awful, parang nilalagaring yero. Todo practice pa naman ako sa bahay only to be ruined by a broken string.

I can relate to this, one time at a gig in UP, we got pushed back so far down the lineup coz the "sorta main act" wants to get on stage just right before we were supposed to setup on stage after our friends' band. I got so pissed coz they had a long set, IIRC it was around 45mins to an hour. but right after them, we were next, so I was anxious by that time but still kinda pissed, then suddenly their very pretty vocalist went down the side of the stage to approach me and whispered "uy thanks ah..." or something like that, I just smiled and said "ok lang..." since she was so pretty and is kinda popular. :cute: ....nawala bad trip ko. then lahat ng bandmates ko nagtataka, bat naka ngiti na ko. my only answer was "ang bango bango niya". :wave:
PART 2,
after that ordeal, setup on stage. that time, we only had one tuner for the whole band. so we all had to plug in (2 guitars, 1 bass) before going on stage. then we played, it was all going well but we noticed our vocalist was really having a hard time singing, he was really pushing it. after our set, when we checked our tuning, "ok naman ah, naka standard tayong lahat" only to find out later that night when we plugged in to another tuner, that we were tuned 1 whole step higher. the tuner we used at the gig was busted... :eek:

Oh! Sorry but I really don't find it as funny. This vocalist is a jerk as if he never commit mistakes or AS IF he is a damn good singer. Poor guitarist. S*it happens on stage, live eh!

Jason is a friend of the band's and Diego is my labelmate so every now and then he'd be in the audience. Whenever he's there, something would go wrong with the setup. One time, we bombed a set because our bass player's tuners came loose. (as in please throw that bass away, it's falling apart kind of loose) Jason was there. Another time, we gigged in Saguijo and he was there. First time seeing him after a while. A beer spilled somewhere near the stage and one of the bar staff guys unplugged my amp while I was playing, so I spent the entirety of our last song's build-uppy closer figuring out what was wrong. Ended up throwing my guitar in frustration. There are other times, but those are the two I could remember off the top of my head.

pa gig ng school way back 2008 ata nag front act kami sa kilalang metal band sa concert for a cause sa school pero dumating yung mga tropang banda ng organizer so inatras kami yun ang pinauna hanggang sa nag decide ng tumugtog yung main event band na metal band kasi may gig pa silang iba. nakatugtog na yung main act kami hindi pa na "FRONT ACT" dapat kami. tapos nag uwian na yung ibang tao dahil tapos na yung main act band. pero marami pang front act band ang hindi pa nakakatugtog kasama kami hanggang naatras ng naatras dahil palakasan sa organizer nakatugtog ata kami around 1am then nung kami na halos kami kami nalang mag babarkada yung tao kasi yung ibang band nag uwian na din di na kayang mag hintay so it turns out na kami na yung last kasi yung iba hindi na tumugtog nag sawa na mag hintay.
kami kami na nga lang mag babarkada tao, then organizer and staff then nung tumutugtog na kami pinatay na lahat. yung ampli nalang talaga namin sa stage tumutunog then yung ibang ilaw pinatay na then nung 2nd song pati yung mic pinatay na eh yung vocalist namin tuloy kanta parin high na high na eh panay inom nung nag hihintay sa bwiset eh and some epektus. dapat 4 songs each band pero pag tapos palang ng 2nd song namin lumapit organizer samin sabi "ooh tama na yan wala ng tao oh saka gabi na uwian na tayo" ayun baba kami. :cry: :cry: :x :-o :eek: <_< :oops:

kaya tama din si IncX eh, parang mas ok nalang mag organize ng sariling jam, and invite some friends over for tambay and inom sa isang convenient place..tapos tumutog kay ng tumugtog hanggang magsawa...mas sulit at mas enjoy..kesa na pilitin makisabay sa 30 band a night 3song line up ...productions..ganun din lang din...

i remember talking to him right after, he was pretty stunned and shaken, i saw him freeze when the guy pointed the gun at him. in fact, we were all frozen, but since i was on the side of the stage area i had to force life into my legs and escape.

and since we were all naive kids (3rd year highschool?) making it out unscathed was enough.

one of the best gigs i had was playing in a rehearsal room, and this pretty girl watched us ... after the rehearsal she went to me and said "you are kinda good"

hehehe, kahit nga 6 bands, sobra na eh... imagine the set up time and the equipment abuse.
im thinking, a decent equipment should only be used max of 2 hours, with 15-30 min rests in between. crappy, cheap equipment should be used 1 hour or less.
as for metal ... yun talaga pinaka demanding in terms of equipment. yun nga lang, in my experience, the cheapest ticket prices belong to the noisiest music genres.

Napansin ko while setting up, medyo grabe na ang pagka "octopus" ng power extension cables. ayun while in the middle of the set biglang nag usok ng malakas. di namin pinansin. astig nga eh may stage effects. feeling namin "we're on fire" tonayt! haha nung nag amoy nasusunog na plastic na at maitim na usok ang bumuga, hala takbo na lahat sa labas. we couldve been know to be the band that burned down saguijo.

Tagaytay- tugtugan sa piyesta. napag tripan kami ng mga lasing buong set nag rerequest ng "Chiquitita". sinisigawan na kami- kaya nag walk out bokalista namin sa takot.
Noong nag regular kami sa isang bar sa makati- may lasing din nag rerequest- di makapigil inagaw sa akin gitara ko at yun. eh ako high school pa. walang nagawa... yan sad. :cry:
Niregaluhan ako ng una kong gitara ng tatay ko- nagsisimula pa lang ako matuto- sumali kami sa battle of the bands sa guadalupe. napaka "Brand new" at pa kinang-kinang pa ng gitara -Ibanez sv470 ata. after ng set namin, sabi ng MC "oh kita niyo? wala sa ganda ng gitara yan" :cry: - after nun, tinadtad ko ng stickers.
Nowadays: I feel a tinge of sadness when I see bands that resort to doing Comedy/Gimmicky/ stuff onstage just to get attention. - that's a reflection of the current musical landscape we exist in today.

it was the second worship service. i just had breakfast after the first. in the middle of the set, (we usually play 6 songs, 3 fast, 3 slow) mga middle of the third fast song, i started feeling something in my tummy. sabi ko "oks lang yan, wag lang bumaba yung pakiramdam sa (you know)" eh nung start nung slow set, ayun na, bumaba na. i was enduring it for the next 3 songs. nung extro nung last song, as the people were clapping, i put my guitar down agad and left the stage, all sweaty, hehe. hindi ko na hinintay yung final bagsak nung band, hahaha! grabe, nakakanginig ng tuhod.

My sad story will always be about technical difficulties and heres one to share :cry:
Octoberfest 2007 or 2008 i think I was using a Vox Valvetronix 2 X12 (its already on stage) and at the middle of the intro and it suddenly stop working. The amp is still on but theres no sound coming out. The Technical crew came on stage to check and it came back. After a few minutes theres no sound coming out again of the amp. I have no time to change to another amp. This happened again for three songs and I'm the only guitarist (rhythm and lead). Its the worst thing to happen especially if the songs are guitar oriented. Its one of the worst gig moments of my life.
One bar in Katipunan almost in front of Ateneo ( I forgot the name ) - Bad slot Scenario ( ^ found the term in some post hehe (salamat sa definition) ). our slot for the gig umurong ng umurong up to the point na hindi na kami nakatugtog. Dahil sa dami ng singit and our contact was barely able to do something about it. Waste of time, money, pagod, praktis and we have guests. Nakakahiya.

may napansin din ako sa last bad slot scenario namin..na may mga bands na same members din, pero different bands siguro pinalitan lang yung vox or guitar player...palagay ko yun ang pinakasulit kasi kung may 2 bands ka di nakatugtog ka ng 6 songs instead of 3..hahaha..
pinaka peeve ko talaga is yung super tagal mag setup na bands..sayang oras..yung magtotono on stage na napakatagal..ang ginagawa ko with respect sa time eh..pag last song na ng band before us..maquick tune up na using clip on tuners and general check na ng gear..para pagakyat plug in lang ang konting amp tweaks nalang...
yung iba kasi..halos kasing haba ng set nila yung pag set up nila..kaya umaabot ng umaga yung tugtugan..lalo sa 20 band productions..hahaha

Recently, my band just played first in a show where EVERYONE except us was late. How late? The next band set up 3 HOURS late. What gig was it? It was for a foreign band. The organizer was there but had to run do stuff. I wonder how he kept cool the whole time. Ang sakit sa ulo pag lahat na lang late.
...oh, and we played to two people in the audience... at B-Side... the courtyard pa. :)) Glorified rehearsal.

1. sa Mimosa/Fontana sa isang social event , nag session ako sa isang POP/JAZZ band, first set was ok, masaya naman mga tao sa tugtugan naming M.O.R. mostly ang pondo, then we were asked to play danceable sa 2nd set, good to go naman kami, pero habang kumakain kami for the break, pinatugtog halos lahat ng pondo naming danceables nung DJ, so ayun 2nd set namin parang inulit lang namin yung mga pinatugtog na.

Grand alumni home coming ng highschool, I think 2002 yun. Ang genre pa ng banda ko nun eh ska/punk ala Goldfinger. Lakas ng tama namin bago tumugtog, siyempre reunion di maiwasan mag inuman. AMPANGIT DAW NG PERFORMANCE namin, magulo, sabog, wala sa timing at bokalista nakakalimot ng lyrics - PERO ANG BUONG AKALA NAMIN WHILE PERFORMING EH SWAK GINAGAW NAMIN, sinabi na lang negative comments samin nung mga nakapanuod kaya pala walang pumapalakpak haha, may 2nd set pa dapat kame pero di na kame pinatugtog hahahaha! Buwiset yan! Simula nun di na kame tumugtog for reunion

sometimes eto rin yung pinag iisip isip ko minsan.....you got good gears...pedals, guitars na pwede ka na mkabili ng kotse sa mahal pero minsan sumasagi sa isipan ko.....kapwa music lovers ko lang nkaka appreciate ng value ng mga bagay na to.
masaya nmn ako sa ginagawa ko pero...parang yung feeling na natugtug ka ...and you have the best gears which worth hundreds of thousands pero normal people doesn't appreciate it ....normal people usually goes for people who have stunning voice kahit acoustic lang with the basic 4 chords...just sayin :eek:

We were invited in a piyestahan ng tropa namin. Pinatugtog kami sa house nila.
Masaya naman, yun lang yung mga audience namin eh mga nakainom na.
Medyo kasarapan ng tugtog nun then all of a sudden one of the audience pulled out his gun and nagpaputok! (pero pointing pataas)
Grabe natigilan kaming lahat! Siguro mga 3 seconds yun.
Nadala lang siguro dun sa tinutugtog namin that time (Huling El Bimbo)
Then tinuloy pa rin namin yung song. Then after ending it nagpaputok na naman!! Tinuldukan lang siguro yung song hehe.
After that we decided to end that jam. Mahirap na baka sa iba na maitutok yung baril ^-^

Nung isang beses na tumugtog kami sa school ng banda ko dati. Dalawang kanta.
Tumigil ako after the first song kasi hindi ko marinig gitara ko ng mabuti tapos sinabi ko dun sa lalake na part nung crew na nirentahan ng gamit. Sabi naman sakin, rinig naman daw ako sa mix.
Tumuloy nalang ako kahit ganun, although halos hindi ko talaga rinig sarili ko. Sadly, nung napanuod ko yung video ng performance namin, lunod na lunod sa mix yung gitara ko. :(

Recently, my band just played first in a show where EVERYONE except us was late. How late? The next band set up 3 HOURS late. What gig was it? It was for a foreign band. The organizer was there but had to run do stuff. I wonder how he kept cool the whole time. Ang sakit sa ulo pag lahat na lang late.
...oh, and we played to two people in the audience... at B-Side... the courtyard pa. :)) Glorified rehearsal.

Ay hahaha. Random guess lang hehe :)) Wasn't able to go to the gig e.
Isa pang pangit na experience sa battle of the bands dun sa isa kong naging banda na rhythm guitarist ako.
I always make sure that I bring my own gear whenever we play, but our lead guitarist rarely brings his own, so he had to borrow a guitar from someone. Nasa kalagitnaan kami ng sound check tapos biglang nawala yung sound ng gitara nya. It had some problems with the electronics yata. Paglingon ko sa kanya, nagkakalikot ng knobs tsaka ng toggle switch. Nung first song na namin, ganun din nangyari after the intro. Although tuloy tuloy parin kami, kulang yung feel nung kanta, lalo na kasi may solo yung tinugtog namin.

Kami dati sa obsidian bar, Medyo na moved yung line up. Nauna sa amin ang skychurch. Then sumunod kami sa skychurch, mukang pagod na ang mga tao, then yung iba lumabas na, tapos nung kami na yung tumutugtog.. umupo yung mga kids, then ayon pagkatapos ng mga kanta, sobrang tahimik, walang palakpak kahit plastikan lang hahaha

we were playing iron maiden's the trooper as our last song nung biglang umakyat yun karamihan ng audience sa stage at duon na nagslamman hahaha. Sa gitna ng slamman nila, ako nilayo ko na talaga yun pedalboard ko para safe. sad to say, my bandmate did not have time to save his board. nakita ko talaga, parang dinaanan ng stampede yun board niya. parang slow motion pa na nagliparan yun mga ngipin ng equalizer niya HAHAHA. it was a really good gig nonetheless.
HAHAHA! that's total chaos bro. I cant imagine na nagtatalsikan ung pin ng eq nya. HAHAHA :-D

In short, ilang beses kaming nag ulit ulit ng intro. Ang ginawa ko ako na nag drums at kumanta hahah - pabida ako OO pero kelangan eh.. punyemes na drummer yan parang di nagpraktis

HS days. 1st battle of the bands namin outside school noon. Pinakamagulong battle of the bands yun noon dahil 25php lang ang entrance at yung iba nag-aakyatan sa bintana.
Tumugtog kami ng usong uso noon sa aming lugar, lalo na sa mga slammers, Santeria. haha. Naputol ang string ng gitara ko sa soundcheck pa lang at napilitan akong humiram ng isa pang gitara na nakakainis at wala pa sa tono. Wala akong tuner noon, nagtono ako na naririnig ng lahat haha. Ang vox namin babae, magaling siya. Pagkabigkas pa lang niya ng "I don't practice santeria" akyatan ang mga slammer sa itaas. Eh kabado ako noon, nanginginig ang kamay ko dahil sa kaba at pawis na pawis ang kamay. Puno ang stage ng slammers at ang nakakabadtrip eh yung isang slammer katabi ko at tinuturo ung daliri ko sabi "nanginginig oh!" haha. At yung vox namin kunyare pinipicturan ng isang slammer pero gamit niya eh tsinelas lang. Nakaporma na parang cellphone yung hawak.
Ok naman daw yung tugtog namin ang problema lang eh medyo mahina daw gitara ko. What's worse eh hindi namin naenjoy at nahiya kami sa vox naming babae kasi pinalibutan siya ng mga parang ewan na slammers.
Kitang kita ko nun yung isang bouncer na may sinuntok sa panga.

invited kami sa gig... yung isang organizer nanliligaw dun sa utol ng gitarista ko, so punta kami, dami namin guest.. tapos habang naghihintay sinabihan kami na mauusog kami ng isang slot.. okay pumayag kami..
tapos maya-maya sabi ulit mauusog ulit kami.. ngayun badtrip na kami, so nag walkout na kami.. hinabol pa kami nung organizer(nan nanliligaw sa utol ng gitarista ko) at sabi gagawan nya ng paraan, wag daw kami umalis.. pero tinuluyan namin, start ng sasakyan tapos alis, inaya nalang namin yung mga guest namin maginom sa bahay..

many years back, i joined a battle-of-the-bands event with a group that i patched together with member's from my sister's band, and my hs friends' band. i thought i had a pretty wicked bunch put together, and as far as practice was concerned, we sounded tight! :razz:
come the day of the of the competition i get a txt from our drummer that he was in davao, and will play with us. WTF!!! but the txt also said he may arrive in the afternoon.
why in the devil's name he is in davao or how he got there i didn't give a [strawberry]. we were all together at the event place and i asked the organizer regarding my predicament. he says if there's no drummer we have to play it without him, 'acoustic' pa nga term nya. noooo it just can't work kasi madaming tapping yung kanta ko! :lol:
about 3 hours before we were supposed to be on, my friend's band came in since they are supposed to play as well. i pleaded with him to borrow their drummer for our set to which the drummer immediately agreed. good thing i was lugging around a copy of the song which i recorded. the drummer thought he could deal with it, and he went around listening to the song.
when it was our turn, a crowd had gathered already since madami na dumating na tao. adding to the tension was that our real drummer suddenly txted a few minutes before we went up on stage that he was already at the event hall, but the guards were stopping him to come in because he didn't have a pass. i don't know why there were stopping him though, a list of names was given to the guards...whatever it was too late...
we played our set...it was kinda bad but at least we pulled through and managed to bag 3rd place because of tapping >:D
ang masama nito, paglabas namin ng hall, nandun yung drummer namin standing there. i was about to blow up on him sa inis at galit because the gig meant a lot to us, especially me.

hs pa ako nun,, kinuha akong bassist sa church namin sa skwelahan dahil absent yung bassisit kaya ako ang pumalit,, 1st friday mass yun,, first time kung mag play ng bass (guitar kase ako) then sa kalagitnaan ng tugtugan,, bumigay ang B string ng guitar ng guitarist namin, buti nalang tinuloy pa rin ang tugtugan...

Grade 6 kami nung unang beses kami tumugtog sa school namin. Isang kanta lang (narda - kamikazee). Gitarista ako nun, first time naming lahat tutugtog sa harap ng maraming tao. Nakapag practice kami pero di gaano kaya ang nangyari, yung vocalist namin hindi sanay pumasok sa kanta ng tama. After nung unang ikot ng intro, pumasok agad siya tas tumigil tas pumasok ulit. :eek: Ayun labo labo na, yung drummer namin iba iba na ginagawa hanggang sa wala na pahiya na talaga. After nun ayaw na namin i jam yung narda. Hahaha
1st year highschool na kami, sumali kami sa battle of the bands ng school namin. Ako na yung vocalist, iba na bassist at isang guitarist. 3 songs kami nun. 2nd song ata namin Gitara by PNE nilagyan namin ng drums. Nakalimutan ko yung lyrics ng second verse tas sa sobrang kaba ko tinapat ko sa isa naming gitarista yung mic tapos sya naman umiwas. Ayun pahiya nanamn. :| :eek:
2nd yr kami battle of the bands ulit sa school. Same band members pero may dumagdag na isang vocalist. 2 songs yun, 1 opm (Martyr Nyebera), 1 foreign song (Thunder - BLG). Dun sa kantang thunder, hindi talaga ako kumpyansa na tugtugin yon dahil masyado mataas para sakin yung chorus (dipa kami marunong mag transpose nun). Ang purpose nung isang vocalist back up siya sakin pero hindi rin talga siya marunong tska ang usapan siya kakanta ng chorus pero wala. Ayun blanko chorus namin. :( Pero bumawi kami sa martyr nyebera namin nun kaya nanalo kaming (best local band) yun yung tawag nila. Hahah
4th yr battle ulit pero sa ibang school na. Iba n bassist at drummer namin nun. 2 songs ulit Welcome home/Faint of hearts by Coheed and Cambria. Ayoko talaga na kantahin yang dalawa na yan dahil pareho ding mataas para sakin. Kaya lang namin yan tinugtog dahil malupit daw at may magandang solo para best lead guitarist na yung kasamahan namin. Nung nasa venue na kami, may mga dumating na ibang banda may mga pedal board pa sila (wala pakong kagamit gamit at hilig sa effects nung panahon na yun) edi lalo akong kinabahan dahil mukhang magagaling sila. Nung tugtog na namin, hindi marunong gumamit ng effects yung lead guitarist namin, wala sa tono yung bass, ako off key tas labo labo na. Sabi nung isang gitarista namin, may sumisigaw daw na PURO KAYO PORMA! Worst battle yun na natugtugan namin. :eek:
OT: Ngayong college na, sarap na ng tugtugan. Nagsimula na ang GAS. :D

Kami nung tumugtug kami sa isang bar. ine expect namin maganda tlga ung mga amp dun. since amateur pa kami. single pedal palang dala ko. then nung tumugtug na kami sobrang crappy nung amp. hayz.. sabog na sabog lalo na pag on ng distortion. sobrang disappointed ang hirap. tinuloy nlng namin. kahit sabog. di lang yun, kung alam nyo ung poorsman castle sa shaw. dun kami na pasok, pucha! puro bitch agad ung nakita namin sa loob. ibang bar pala yun amputa.. sinubukan lang kasi namin. may naka lagay kasing "wanted band" then tinry namin. haha. may nag titirahan na nga halos habang tumugtug kami! takte tlga!! happy hours pala ah! xDDD

Come the day of the battle of the bands at the office, namatay ermats ng vox namin. Syempre di sya nakakanta kaya umaga pa lang, nagme-memorize ng lyrics yun rhythm guitarist kasi sya na sasalo sa vox duties. We bagged 3rd place as well gaya nun isang kwento.

May isang beses na out of place yung banda ko hahahahhaa.
Nainvite kami tumugtog tapos mejo wala kaming idea sa tutugtugan. Nagulat kami puro Christian bands mga sinundan namin. :-o E nung time na yun, mahilig kami sa Kamikazee covers. Pero game parin syempre hahahahaha.
Priceless itsura nila pagtugtog namin hahahahaha. Sobrang dead air in between songs.

our singer was invited to play in her alma matter's org, pero the catch was, she can only use people from the org. they lacked a bass player/band instructor, so she asked the org whether she could get me in. she called me and gave me a song list, consisting of the Paramore cover songs we play in our orig band.
the first time i went to rehearsal, i was shocked, the band, just from the looks of it, cannot play paramore songs. when i went there, our singer was busy, so she just left me with the bunch of noobs. true enough, the kids did not play nor did they come close to playing the Paramore songs. the original 5 set song list was rearranged and ended up becoming a 3 song set with very easy pop songs.
when we went to "audition" for the org head, the drummer quit without giving notice, we ended up asking a random kid to play drums on the spot, and our set was so terrible, the head asked us to play a 2 song set.
the day of the show came, i begged the singer to just use our drummer, cause the one they got was pretty crappy. she begged the org head, so we got our band's drummer in. basically, the only members left in the prod's original band was the guitar player, and one of the other singers.
when we got onstage, the prod decided they wanted a keyboardist in our band ... and so we had to deal with a keyboardist we never got to rehearse with, and we were 2 mins from getting onstage.
when we got onstage, the set-up was really weird cause all of the instruments were lumped to the extreme right and the extreme left where the audience can barely see us. the drummer, keyboardist and me took the left, where the guitar player took to the right. when we started playing, the tech was so lazy, he did not adjust the mixer that when i stepped into the fuzz and envelope of my bass pedal board, i ended up sonically assaulting the small mall crowd with this annoying MMMMEEEEEOOOOWWWWWW sound. worst part was, i did not know, so i did not bother turning the pedals off through the duration of the song.
we had no monitors, we had no idea what we sounded like, and i am sure the vocalists were already off key at that point - and this was in a mall. i am sure we have advertised ourselves as a crappy band to a lot of mall goers by then.
finally, our 2 song-set ended, we got offstage. it was a terrible experience .... after all the trouble, they gave me and the drummer, a cupcake and a juice tetra pack. i was covered in sweat (from nervousness and fear of our set), went to 3 long rehearsals, and was there holding of what looks like to be an elementary kid's baon pack. you can say, i felt like a musician that day.

back in 2007 uso pa ang emo ( di ako emo ) battle of the bands sa marilao bulacan (bukas pa rock castle)
drummer ako super laki ng chance naming manalo 95% ang tugtog namin ay typecast - last time, clutching, assertion, at isang urban dub- sailing
umpisa pa lang sumablay na vox namin super kaba ( first gig nya ) di na binati yung audience ni hindi nga pinakilala band namin hays sabi nya men do the count hahaha first 2 songs is chaotic halos di ko marinig boses nya sa assertion na lang sya bumawi, pero all in all the crowd is wild habang tumutugtog kami. lalo na yung sailing na ang kanta na ni request ng organizer na last song namin.

It was in college.. 4th year na kami nun.. Bale parang last gig na namin yun sa school.. We were invited to play 2 songs na rock daw.. (Of which the event is due the next day).. Yung isang officer (student body officer) which was a friend of our bassist.. Requested us to play a chicosci song specifically 7 black roses daw.. Kasi nga chicks yung officer na yun eh di pumayag kami agad.. Btw the other song is chiksilog.. Since next day na ang gig todo practice kami nun. tsaka since last gig na namin yun sa school we decided to do something memorable.. Sabi nang drummer namin.. Guitar spin daw.. Toinks. Sabi namin nung kasama kong gitarista "sige go bahala na.." haha :mrgreen: Btw brand new pala yung gitara ng kasama ko. It was a squire I think.. So here comes the gig we duct taped our straps to our guitars.. Para secure daw.. :eek: Btw. We practiced doing it pala.. Bale sa 20 tries 2 lang ang tama.. Haha.. Yun na in the middle of the song I spinned the guitar and it was perfect.. Kinabahan na yung kasama ko kasi siya na ang next.. Ayun pag guitar spin nya.. Lumipad guitar nya..straight dun sa amp.. Butas!! Pero tinapos parin namin yung song.. Wasak ang neck nung brand new guitar ng kasama ko.. Then binayaran pa namin yung nabutas na amp..
But in the end goal met parin kami.. Because it was f**king memorable.. :mrgreen:

here's another one i remember from the time that we were a fledgling band back in, jeez what - 2004 or something?
we were called on to audition for a 'gig' (actually it was supposed to be an intermission thing for a yfc gathering of sorts at a local church) and we were excited as balls because it was gonna be our first time to play in public. ang sabi ng friend ko who told us to play there was we were cleared to play rock music, so we selected some songs to play...
1. the reason - kasi uso ito at the time and it was rock 2. song 2 3. smells like teen spirit
we practiced hard every time we could so we felt we could totally pull if off
so come the day of the audition, we had some of the yfc leaders and elders to listen to us play - formality lang daw. we were herded into this small room that's built solid deep within the church...it was like a goddamn bomb shelter with thick concrete walls. we were given crappy amps, and i kid you not when i say crappy. one i remember had the speaker exposed and torn up like a dog went through it. but nothing can dampen our excitement because after this, we'll get our first gig! :-D
so we ran through our set, and although our 'hired' keyboarding who was supposed to do nothing but press the E on the octave below middle C for The Reason was having a hard time remembering which key on the keyboard it was, everything was pretty much perfect!
but the panel of listeners were all frowning and raised eyebrows at us. we were told we were too loud, we were too wild and all they wanted was some rock music, and not noise.
naturally we were let down. out of curiosity, one of us asked : 'pwede naman po kamo mag rock? ano po ang gusto niyo ba?'
and one of the elder ladies answered... 'iho, masyado talaga kayo maingay. baka meron kayong alam na rock music, mga tipong Britney Spears o kaya Mandy Moore.'

needless to say, everyone but the guy who wanted to play the show (our drummer) voted out of the said event, and we all settled for a round of beer instead. :-D
hanggang ngayon tandang tanda namin lahat ang kwento na iyan, even when we all had gone our ways playing in different bands.

we played at Center for Arts wayback 2010 or 2009 pa yata...
ang engot naming drummer naiwan yung hi-hats nya at crash cymbals...
eh wala gusto magpahiram (syempre, sino ba naman gusto magpahiram ng gamit sa di mo kilala)...
ayun nagtyaga sya dun sa kabibeng hi-hats ng bar...
at cymbals na parang takip ng kaldero tumunog..
ang worst pa neto, ilang beses nya nabitawan yung stick...
ang sabi nya "pre, pasensya na, kinakain nung kabibe yung stick ko eh, ayaw bitawan kapag nadikit sa kanya"...
pagkatapos nun, nagpakalango na lang kame sa alak.... :|

I remember dream ko dati tumugtog sa mayricks (hindi ko alam tamang spelling) sa Espańa kasi madami daw na sikat na tumgtug doon. So after High School, nagkaroon akong bagong banda, Equinox. Cover songs lang kasi bago lang talaga. E malakas makakuha yung vocalist namin ng gig.
Nagkataon na may friend sya na tutugtug sa mayricks, then nasama kami! :) Nagpraktis kami kasi alam namin na sikat yung lugar na yun so marami magagaling na tutugtog.
That time ang effects na ginagamit ko is yun Behringer editionna guitar combo from native instruments, so laptop ang effects ko.
Then, nung turn na namin, syempre magsesetup na kami, yung laptop ko biglang nagloko! :cry: Bigla siyang nag safety run. Grabe nakakahiya, ang tagal namin sa stage hinihintay yung laptop ko na magstart.. After nun nagpapicture yung ibang tao sa vocalist namin.
Lesson: never bring a laptop in gigs unless sure ka hindi sira yung laptop na may effects mo.

the year was 1995. we played at a local music bar here in cebu. it was a weekend and it was aired live through top local fm station here because it was some sort of a special event. the bands were 3 local (my band, frank, [franco's old name] and another band that i forgot) and razorback. 1st set was the band that i forgot, then frank, then supposedly us then razorback. when it was our turn to play, we set up our instruments on the stage and when we are about to play our first song, the owner suddenly told us to stop coz razorback wants to play 1st. to our frustration, we asked why. the owner told us that razorback is also invited to another bar so their schedule is adjusted. i know it was just an alibi. but, that is just the way it goes. when it was our turn, we played so loud (jesus and mary chain's "taste of cindy" and "down on me" that one of the guitar amps speaker kaputed! lol. sad, but i'm happy in the end! :lol:

Sinesetup na namin yung mga gamit sa stage when I suddenly realized na naiwan ko pala yung adaptor ng 1spot ko :cry: Haha nakakahiya kasi buong pedalboard dala tapos walang power supply. Invited ko pa naman yung mga officemates ko. Luckily mabait yung guitarist ng naghost na church, pinahiram ako ng Korg Multi niya. So yun nakasurvive..
Then nung sila (yung gitarista na nagpahiram sa akin) na yung tumutugtog, I was blown away by their skills kasi magagaling talaga. Tapos biglang umulan nang malakas (dinig sa loob yung ulan sa labas). Nung nag-CR ako nagulat ako kasi may nagpupunas ng tubig sa daan. Tumutulo yung ulan sa loob! Tapos sabi ng kasama ko nakita daw niya na yung acoustic amp umuusok na :eek:

ako nung sumali kami dati sa battle of the bands. nagloloko kasi cable ko. kalagitnaan ng tugtog nawalawala yung sound ko. badtrip. tapos para pa kong tuod nun. hahaha! i dont know if this,is sad or funny. ang nakakahiya pa dun, nagloko na nga cable ko, yung gf ko na asawa ko na ngayon. asa crowd sumisigaw. "asawa ko yan!" hahahaha!

back in the days, regular kami sa club na 'to sa Frisco,Ca pero during that particular day, maraming tropang pinoy ang nasa audience and while prepping to go onstage, napainom ng medyo medyo hanggang time to play na (ako lang noypi sa band, lahat kano). Malikot ako sa stage magperform and since nalasing, blagag, nahulog ako sa stage. Biyak yung headstock na gibson lp standard na pinagamit sa kin ng bandmate ko pero buti at hindi head ko nabiyak.

I remember back in 06 during our company's battle of the bands... while we were playing mr. big's just take my heart biglang pinabuga ng stage crew yung smoke machine, ako napaubo at medyo nawala sa riff pero yung vocalist namin pumiyok sa 2nd chorus! Kami and defending champs nun pero olats kami kaya first runner up lang hehehe.

eto kwento lang ng mga tambay ko sa studio ko noon. ako rin kasi ang nag-sponsor ng libreng praktis nila sa studio ko dahil malakas ang vibes kong mananalo sila dahil magagaling naman.
pyesta yata sa binangonan. sumali sila sa bob. gabi yun. napansin na nila nung maaga pa na pag maingay ang tugtugan ng mga sumasalang, binabastos ng magaling na kapitan ng brgy. ang mga banda like kalagitnaan ng kanta e magsasalita sa mic o di kaya pinatatapos agad kahit di pa natutugtog lahat ng piyesa nila.
so nung sila na, tinugtog nila ang doobidoo (kamikazee version). nung panahong yun siguro around 2weeks pa lang sa radyo at tv yung airplay ng version na yun. di pa sila tapos e pinatigil na sila ng kapitan. di nakapagpigil si drummer habang paalis sa drums e sumigaw sya ng "bastusan na" e nasagap sa mic.
di pa sila nakababa sa stage, kinuyog na sila ni kapitan at mga tanod nya, dinala sa brgy hall, binugbog, kinulong, pinagbintangang adik. yung kasama nilang nagyaya sa kanila don, di na raw nagparamdam. yung bokalista nilang malaking tao e di rin nakaligtas sa bugbog. kaya nga raw nyang kutusan sina kapitan at mga tanod e di na lang sya nanlaban.. yun, nagpakulong na rin sya wag lang iwan ang tropang drummer dahil baka kung anu pa ang gawin. before lunch pa yata kinabukasan sila pinalaya nung may sumundo na sa kanila para patunayang di sila adik.

isang beses habang tumutugtog kami (playing vox/guitar), bigla in the middle of the song nawala tunog ng keyboard. di ko pinansin kasi akala ko may problema amplifier. kaya diretso lang. tapos na ang kanta, paglingon ko sa likod. wala na pala ang keyboardist.... :| bgla sumulpot pagkababa namin ng stage.... na LBM daw sya! :lol:

eto kwento lang ng mga tambay ko sa studio ko noon. ako rin kasi ang nag-sponsor ng libreng praktis nila sa studio ko dahil malakas ang vibes kong mananalo sila dahil magagaling naman.
pyesta yata sa binangonan. sumali sila sa bob. gabi yun. napansin na nila nung maaga pa na pag maingay ang tugtugan ng mga sumasalang, binabastos ng magaling na kapitan ng brgy. ang mga banda like kalagitnaan ng kanta e magsasalita sa mic o di kaya pinatatapos agad kahit di pa natutugtog lahat ng piyesa nila.
so nung sila na, tinugtog nila ang doobidoo (kamikazee version). nung panahong yun siguro around 2weeks pa lang sa radyo at tv yung airplay ng version na yun. di pa sila tapos e pinatigil na sila ng kapitan. di nakapagpigil si drummer habang paalis sa drums e sumigaw sya ng "bastusan na" e nasagap sa mic.
di pa sila nakababa sa stage, kinuyog na sila ni kapitan at mga tanod nya, dinala sa brgy hall, binugbog, kinulong, pinagbintangang adik. yung kasama nilang nagyaya sa kanila don, di na raw nagparamdam. yung bokalista nilang malaking tao e di rin nakaligtas sa bugbog. kaya nga raw nyang kutusan sina kapitan at mga tanod e di na lang sya nanlaban.. yun, nagpakulong na rin sya wag lang iwan ang tropang drummer dahil baka kung anu pa ang gawin. before lunch pa yata kinabukasan sila pinalaya nung may sumundo na sa kanila para patunayang di sila adik.

sa akin matindi ang nangyari sa school din yun first time ko tumugtog.
nung maglead na ako takte naninigas daliri ko ayaw gumalaw dahil sa sobra kaba... :-( :cry: :oops:
This happened to me when I was in high school, when I was about to play the solo of santana's song why don't you and I, I rehearsed that for weeks maybe even months but I ended up playing a couple of notes from the solo and a few chords haha I didnt know how to improvise back then and I was relying more on the piece that i had memorized.
Another story... about 2 years ago, we had a battle of the bands in the office during our annual octoberfest, everyone was hyped up and excited because we had a good chance to win when halfway through the 2nd song i lost my guitar signal (i guess) because there was no sound coming from the amp, I had to roll my guitar's volume knob up and down, stomped each of my pedals on and off and turned the amp on and off as well but there was no sound, until I decided to just plug my guitar directly to the amp and it came back but it was the last chorus of the song and I missed the solo.. :oops:

just last week.. played both youth services sa church namin. ok yung 1st service.. nung 2nd serivce, with a little bit different sa lineup and keys.. i totally forgot the first song. when i remembered it, i played on a different key. then 2nd song, i played in key of C instead of G. it was a total mess.. so yung vocalist sobrang pinilit abutin, but really, doesn't work well. after the service.. i said sorry to the whole team and we had honest resolutions para di na maulit. :-(
actually, i have a lot more.. i think lahat naman dumadaan sa ganyan. :D most of them are funny ones. like.. natanggal strap (naka strap lock na ngayon.. hahaha!).. made an "all-my-heart-out-feel" in intro pero naka off pala yung amp.. nanigas daliri sa sobrang kaba like the previous post. nanigas din daliri sa sobrang lamig dahil sa aircon.. hahaha! nag runny nose during the service... hahahaha... ahh.. memories..

This happened around 2007, when I was still in college sa UST, CFAD. We were playing regularly sa Mayric's, Espana 2 times a month. Lage ko kasama yun gf ko that time along with my friends and all of us were sporting that super long hair look. Hindi namen alam may naangasan na samen dun (hell we're really nice persons to say the least and katropa namen sila kuya roger, kuya pete and all the known tambays there)
Fast Forward.
So ayun, usual gig sa Mayrics, and napa-aga kame ng gf ko, so tumambay muna kame sa loob, had a quick snack and drinks. Bigla may lumapet saken.
"Ikaw ba si (my name)???" a random guys asked nicely
I replied. "Ay oo brad ako nga"
"May naghahanap kasi sayo sa labas" he replied
I replied. "Ah talaga, sige tara puntahan naten"
As we went out of the bar, medyo bumilis yun lakad niya palayo... then BAM! may humampas ng batuta sa ulo ko, sabay takbo. I was like, WTH was that for? Bute nakatayo ako kagad tapos hinabol nung mga waiter and nila Kuya Roger( Mayric's the manager) yun humampas saken. They never caught that guy. Apparently, they were some frat boys na napagkamalan akong kaaway nila.
Anyways my bandmates and I went to the UST Hospital, my kinky long hair saved me as it acted as a "cushion" dun sa palo sabe nung nurse. The show had to go on, we played our set and went home. Mahirap rumak-out pag nahampas ka ng batuta sa ulo :lol:

I'm playing at church with my band.... i'm playing guitar and singing at the same time. Isa sa mga tinuturuan ko (newbie in playing guitar) pinasabak ko na, kasabay ko, sabi ko sabay lang sya sakin, he's playing basic chords and i do what i have to do..hehe. 2 kame naggigitara (habang siya kinakabahan), drummer, and the bassist. Sa kasamaang palad, wala keyboardist namin.
Then here we go...... Biglang SUMAKIT TYAN KO. kumukulo! kailangan ko bumaba ng stage, kailangan ko pumunta sa CR! BADTRIP! isip-isip ko, "pwede ba bilisan o magpause muna" pero hindi pwede. So binulungan ko yung isang gitarista. sabi ko "I have to go, CR ako." with my indescribable face. :eek: nakita ko muka nya gulat na gulat. parang di nya kaya.. haha sabi ko "kaya mo yan" :-D
Sabay binaba ko dahan dahan gitara ko, na parang wala lang. bumaba ako ng di namamalayan at sobrang cool. na parang hindi ako nagmamadali. nung wala nang nakakakita sakin, takbo ako! hahaha.
Naririnig ko tugtugan, ok naman! buti nalang nangyari yun, atleast naka-overcome sa kaba kasama ko..hehe pero ayoko na ulit mangyari yun, iba ang pakiramdam..hahaha pumasok ako sa mid ng 4th song, kung pano ako lumabas ganun ako pumasok..haha.

I have a friend, theyre a PASIG based band. Dumayo sila sa isang province to play a gig. Apparently, people from Pasig are not welcome there, may nangyare atang away away date. So ayun, unti unti silang inuusog sa lineup hanggang last band na sila, until nung set na nila, hindi sila pinatugtog at halos kuyugin sila nung buong production at mga audience. whew. SAD

4 years ago, my last year in college, it was our last chance to win the college battle of the bands. I was using a floyded guitar during our set, and sa last song namin, before ako mag guitar solo, my #6 snapped! What I did was, I stopped playing, turned off my effects, pulled the string to show the audience and the judges what happened, then went down the stage, heads down, saying to myself, "sayang last pa naman to". But my band continue to play.
Then we got the second place. sayang, di na nakapag yabang sa solo! hehehe!

i was asked to play an acoustic rendition of an original song by my friends on one of their gigs during the christmas season nung 2012. they belong to a hip hop/pop group kaya walang instrumentalist silang kasama madalas except for that number they asked me to do.
the venue was at Mandaluyong City hall. there was quite a big stage back then and there's like less than a thousand people watching. Last day na kasi ng event yun and marami ring performers that night hence the crowd i think.
nung sumalang na kami, ayos naman yung tunog ko. i was very pleased sa naririnig ko from the speakers in fact. the crowd was yelling as we perform..kaso, mid-song nawala yung signal ng gitara ko!!
ilang bars yung naging akapela yung kinakanta nila :lol: tapos bumalik ng kusa yung signal... tapos nawala ulit...it was a mess! sobrang halata kasi ako lang yung instrumentalist at the moment.. yung mga kasama ko panay tingin na sakin... :eek: i was sweating very cold on-stage because of this. :cry:
its one of my biggest gigs and the most embarassing. :-\
Lesson learned: wag gagamit ng cheap cables. save yourself from humiliation. lol

our band was promised a slot in one of the anime events here in davao, we were booked 2 months before the event ... 4 days from the event, the organizers decided to give ashley and alodia all the stage time, and nonchalantly kicked us out of the bill.

Last Monday tumugtog kami sa school. Sa umaga at sa hapon. Yung sa umaga ayos naman ang sound ng gitara ko sa speaker.. Tapos nung sa hapon, nainis ako dahil yung practice amp ko ang ipinagamit sakin nung lalaki tapos ung lead guitarist naman namin eh ang lakas lakas ng tunog kasi nasa may speaker pa din ung kanya. Nga nga tuloy sa intro ng Huling Sayaw. :eek: habang natugtog kami, kita ko yung matanda na may sinasabi dun sa lalaking nag aayos ng sound system. Tinuturo ako at yung amp ko. Nakakahiya talaga.

1st experience. nung college ako, sumali kami battle of the bands, last band kami, umuulan ng malakas, 1st song ng banda bago kami biglang kumidlat umusok yung mixer at yung house speaker, 1am na to nag hintay kami mula 7pm hehe. tigil ang tugtugan dun nalang pumili sa mga nakatugtog na yung panalo hindi man lang namin na refund yung entrance fee na binayaran namin hehehe

na-experience namin tong ticket selling nung 2009. bago palang kaming banda that time. 40 tickets na tig-150php!! Mashville yung name ng prod o event somewhere sa Pacita Complex, San Peh 3-piece kami nun and we haven't gigged yet. kaya naghalo yung excitement at gastos namin lol
tig-2k kaming magkakabanda, nung na-kumpleto na namin, ni-remit na agad namin sa mga organizers. eto na yung malupit, nung mga 1 week before ng event, hindi na namin makontak yung mga organizers. later on, pati yung kakilala naming banda di na rin sila makontak. In short, na-scam yung mga banda na sumali sa event na yun.
Its not really a sad story on stage. A sad story 'to be' on-stage siguro.

our band was promised a slot in one of the anime events here in davao, we were booked 2 months before the event ... 4 days from the event, the organizers decided to give ashley and alodia all the stage time, and nonchalantly kicked us out of the bill.
kung di ka naman nagkaroon technical difficulties, and ok naman performance mo and of your band I think that's nothing to be embarrassed about.
but still though, it's Ashley Gosiengfiao. hehe
ako lang naman yung nalungkot kasi yung boyfriend yung humiyaw sa tuwa nung nag solo ako ala John Petrucci, hahaha! si Ashley Gosiengfiao wala lang, NR, tulala, hindi nga ata nakikinig. hehehe!

Naalala ko packed ang lugar nun. Kami yung last band. Andaming palang hatak yung band before namin. So nung natapos na set nila, nilangaw na kami. LOL
Pero at least may nanuod parin samin--yung prod at tropa namin. At nagustuhan pa nila song choices namin. Kaya nagka-gig pa kami sa RJ. :lol:

lol first time namin tumugtog sa battle. 1 song per band, we were playing bury your head by saosin, our drummer got a little bit 'feeling professional' doing those spinning of drum stick and throwing into the air, he got too professional and threw the drumstick back off stage. and there was no drums for like 10 seconds lol. and everyone was like aaaawwwwwawaw

two stories both office events
yung isa fund raiser. nag rent kami ng isang small bar lapit sa office. ganda sana ng mga amps na ni rent. one hartke bass + cab. one fender twin reverb and one fender bassman. kaso lang yung mga technician nakalimutan dalhin mga cables! :eek: walang cable to connect yung hartke dun sa cab and walang power cables both fenders. buti may extra instrument cable ako so yun yung ginamit sa bass. tapos buti din malapit yung studio kung san kami nag practice. so punta kami dun para humiram ng power cables. all in all na delay yung start ng show ng 1 and half hour :-(
second one sa hotel naman. yung isang amp, fender na pwede ka mag store ng mga patches for efx. yun yung gamit nung isa namin na gitarista. yung hindi namin napansin e maluwag pala yung saksakan nung amp sa extension cord. 5 song set. every song, natatanggal yung pagkasaksak and namamatay yung amp. pag na saksak na uli ok sana kung dun sya sa clean mag default kaso dun sya sa naka on yung phaser. sirang sira yung tugtog ng gabi. buti na lang ok yung crowd

lol with what you did, your bad gig could have been worse - like the bass amp would have exploded... yep, thats what happens when you stick a head into a cab using instrument cables instead of the proper speaker cables.

Chong kabanda mo yun. Dapat nga hindi kayo nagreact nung pumiyok sha. Bad yun. That's what distinguishes bad bands from good bands. Kahit Metallica sumasablay minsan, pero nagreact ba sila? I'm sure you guys will get disbanded soon.

I believe you joel. Madaming professional band na pumipiyok sa stage pero parang wala lang sa kanila, I mean para ma cover up niyo yung pag piyok wag pansinin.. tuloy lang. Part na yan ng live band setting

band rule: when somebody makes a mistake in rehearsal, react however you want... BUT, when somebody makes a mistake onstage, cover his a$$, make it seem like its a part of the performance, or ignore it, or have fun with it.
kung di mo talaga tanggap, better leave that band, or wait for someone from that band to get you kicked out

5 or 6 years ago, I was at this fundraising gig, and there were lots of bands playing, it was all good and fun. then the last band came on, and I think they were the only band to bring their own amps. the venue was at the 2nd floor of a building. so some real effort was given just to carry the amp. I was thinking to myself "yabang! nagdala pa ng 2 x 12 na amp!" (not sure what brand and model though) then pulled out a hardcase, the most expensive guitar I saw at that gig, a Gibson SG.
took them forever to setup, then halfway through the 1st song, a string snaps.there was awkward silence, the guys in the band look at each other, vox/guitarist just stopped and put his guitar down, leaves stage. :eek:
Kinda similar to what happened to a gig a month ago.. Broke a string in the middle of the 2nd song. My guitar is wearing a floyd and were the last band to play kaya sobrang nakakahiya yung time na nasayang to re-attach my string. When its finally done, I noticed na lumubog yung bridge pickup ko (I must've hit extra hard on that riff).. Its really heart breaking but we still continued from the top of the 2nd song til the end of the set. It was really sloppy cause I'm stuck with the neck pickup the whole time and I only use it for solo's sometimes..
OT: I also bring my 2x12 on gigs.. Mainly because my sound comes from my amp... Sana no one thinks I'm arrogant or some sort. Pahiram ko pa e(if you'll play metal that is) :p

nope, you are the opposite of arrogant.
you know who i think are arrogant? guys who show up without guitars ... or guys who couldnt mix an amp right. those guys are arrogant muthas cause they have the guts to step onstage when they dont even know what to do, nor do they deserve to be up there.

one time may open air j-pop/rock theme gig sa QC circle and we were asked to prepare 4-songs that we really practiced our hearts out. come the event, andaming labo labo na biglang dumadating na bands, and were asked to slash our songs...una 3, then 2 songs. until we had to make one tv size and the other full length.
while i thought the event was supposed to have been osam, it didn't turn out to be so.

oh that almost happened to us with our last gig ... we were asked to play 9 songs ... a few days before the gig, it was 6 songs.... the day of the gig, after we carried a drum kit with 5 cymbals, a 1x12 guitar amp, 2x12 guitar amp, 2x10 bass amp and various pedal boards, we were asked to play 2 songs.
i was so busy with soundcheck, that our vocalist took care of it ... if i wasnt busy, i would have gone wolverine on the one who said that lol
eventually, we had some guys on our side in the org, and we were allowed to play our 9 song set (with lots of breaks in between).
it was an unexpected success. they did not expect it. they even set us up offstage, on the mall floor ... but when we played, people stopped and watched.
it was victory for us indeed... we proved that Jpop music could draw a crowd. it wasnt the case long ago... blame that to bands who could barely play attempting to cover really difficult and complicated Jpop music.

Last 2 years, nag karoon ng mini BOTB sa school. First time ko rin atang sumalang nun, ayun, chill chill lang. Habang na-tugtog kami (I forgot which song), nung panahon ko na para mag-solo, syempre punta sa harap ng stage, nayapakan ko yung cable at dumulas ako, sakto tumama yung headstock ng gitara dun sa nguso ng bassist, ayun chain reaction.

In the first couple of songs, sobrang ganda ng tugtog namin, the crowd were all hyped up dancing in the rain as we play our songs. Then on our last couple of songs, I was so pumped up na before my guitar solo, the D string broke, and so I had to continue the rest of the song without the D string. (My guitar has floydrose, so most of the strings were not in tune after the breakage so I had to adjust the chords para in tune pa rin with my bandmates)
Then nakaraos naman, kaso our most favorite and best song na tinutugtog namin was next and it has a lot of parts na kelangan ng D string, and since wala akong dala na extra guitar, we were forced to end our set. Naawa ako sa mga bandmates ko kasi we weren't able to play that song, sobrang energetic pa naman ng crowd.
Lesson learned: Always secure a backup guitar before performing live, kahit mangheram lang muna ng backup guitar.

tumugtog kami sa antipolo dati.. di masyado oks yung sound system. nung slot na namin, panay feedback and malabo ang sound. nag bbackup vocals ako habang nag gigitara.. merong part na mejo mahaba, ako lang kakanta. feel na feel ko pa...

sa last gig namin, nag feedback ang mic ng vocalist namin (girl na 80 lbs at 5'2") ... di sya gumalaw, so inisip ko ako ang mag adjust sa pedal nya, pero na realize nya ano ang dapat gawin at that same moment, so sabay kami bumaba, at bumangga sya - solid - sa ulo ko na 200 lbs 5'7 lol tumawa ang audience.
buti na lang nakapag kanta pa sya.
at pag breakdown namin, inangat ko ng mabilis ang pedal board ko at yung buntot ng extension cord, tumama uli sa ulo nya. perfect ending lol friends pa rin naman kami.

last gig was during the ozine fest figure special sa gamol. may kadlaks pa ako nun that day as well so kako sa band i will have to make like a tree right after our set...which was agreeable because they wanted the band to be there by 1445 which was cool. so dumating drummer at vox namin and registered, and they were told sila una dumating and i thought ah yes, we get to play first. when all the bands showed up, nagkaron ng shuffle and we were told na pang 4 na kami out of 9 bands that day. oh well, maaga pa naman. so i went out for a smoke and something to drink (mango shake). kaso pagbalik ko, inusog daw ulit kami - pang last na daw. i was like wtf, i was already committed to my other lakad which was our car club's year end party.
i was really pissed then. pag akyat namin ng stage, parang wala na ko sa mood, then halong asar that i really didn't care about [strawberry] it all up...pag akyat ko sa stage, set up my ghetto tapakan, and plugged sa amp. tried my dirt, it was ok, just the right mids for me. kaso when we started playing, something must've [strawberry] up with it and suddenly i had this scooped sound, which i didn't want...tuloy tuloy lang, i was venting my frustration on my guitar.
...may good ending naman...what i thought was a gig that i totally screwed with a solo that i felt i half heartedly played, turned out to be quite a set...and we won the battle...eventually di na ko sumipot sa eb namin.
syempre, napayosi ulet ako in disbelief.

just about two weeks ago, i attended an informal workshop for guitarists, organized by someone i met on fb about a month prior. it's slated on a saturday morning, so ako naman galing work, felt that i didn't need to sleep - it's just gonna be til the afternoon. i didn't practice anything the whole week, let alone touch my guitar. so i was there early at the venue, talking to other guys who arrived early. there was one of the instructors for the day, who i think plays a mean mix of rockabilly and fusion...jebus he was good
so they opened the event, and suddenly, i was called out...to jam in front and demo for the kids...i was told to just jam it out in Bm (a key that i like hearing but not used to soloing over) ala G3 since there was myself, teh monster guitarist, and a left handed blues shredder. to add to my frustration, di pa ko kumain...i wasn't familiar with the amp so i felt i sounded like a dork... sobrang walang preparation on my part. i kinda pulled through but i felt that i could've done, and showed better.

last time may gig ang band namen, at pinagamet sakin ung LTD Clockwork Zombie ng friends ko, so syempre ingat na ingat ako dun dahil bukod sa mahal limited edition pa.
eto na, habang nag play kame. bumibitaw ang strap lock ng guitar, :-o good thing na sasalo ko naman ng 3 times, pero di ako maka tugtog ng ma ayus. kaya sa next set namen. naka upo nalang ako. :lol: :lol: :lol:

@ Asurada I think its better to change the straplocks on your friend's guitar than to sit down at the next gig. What good is a pair of straplocks if they fail their name sake. If it happened to you 3 times in one sitting, there may be a problem. If not, change them out with a regular pair of strap pins in the meantime i guess.

ever since nagkaka drummer problems kami, the only gigs we book are Original gigs or what is popularly knows as, "Prods"
we usually are only allotted 5 songs ... 6 songs if we are lucky, and 3 songs if we are unlucky. in each gig, here's what we bring:
*singer = mic, TC mic mechanic pedal *guitarist = guitar, 14 pedal pedal board, 1x12 tube amp (or we ditch this, depending on the venue), extension cords. *bassist (me) = bass, 22 pedal pedalboard, 1x12 cab, 3 pound head (amp) *drummer = double peds, 2 cymbals, 1 splash, various stands and extension arms
and we set-up fast! we actually practice setting-up.
the thing with bringing gear is that people think you are full of yourself, or mayabang. so we do our best to not hold the line-up and we just run there like crazy, carrying those heavy gear, going as fast as we can to set-up and soundcheck. and the best part is, breaking down! after playing the set, we go as fast as we could to break down, so the band after us wont have to wait.
it feels like a workout, that after i am done doing the inventory: checking whether extension cords and cables are complete and we did not carry anyone's cable or drum stick by mistake ... or worse, we left a power cord somewhere ... i will be so tired, and dizzy. i am also very energetic onstage, and i usually am very physically exhausted after our set.
it is not a very nice feeling. i dont think ive ever seen a band member as tired as i am after every gig.
i remember one of our session drummers kept repeating "ang kailangan nyo PA tsaka roadie ... pagod na nga kayo sa stage, pagod pa kayo sa pag set-up at pagligpit" .. i think he repeated it 4x thru the night.
i really should do something about our set-up lol ... perhaps i will just leave the bass pedal board at home, and only bring it out when we get a proper sound check and set-up time. or well, maybe it could be worth it someday. we actually are on our way to get a qsc k10 for vocals (we are tired of not hearing vocals all night) ... so add that to band's inventory.

Last Jan. 22 we had our year end party. We played 3 songs and everytime Its solo time I really need to go near the monitor to hear what I was playing. We were plugged in straight to the PA. I can hear most of the instruments aside from the drums (edrums) very low volume and my guitar. So everytime I did the solo lapit sa monitor, nangangapa kung nasa timing ba ako o tamang nota ba o pasok ba solo ko. What made it sad and funny was I need to look at our drummer from time to time see his hands kung ano na palo nya lalo na sa intros at breakings. Hehe
But when we watched the videos later medyo okay naman. May mga kaunting times lang na nawala sa sync. esp. sa intros. Yung incharge sa PA kape ata tinitimpla nun hindi mixer. Hehe Hindi pa naman kami magkaintindihan. Pag sinasabihan o senyas akong itaas volume ang sagot lang sakin ay "Shen Me?". hehe :eek: :-P :x

This thing happened also to us back in the days (High School Days). We were invited to play in a fiesta (barangay) hehehe. Two bands lang, so we played first (Beatles Songs) and it went smooth. Then the second band (main band, front act lang kami) played their first set and past half way their set may nag away (saksakan) then sa crowd. So bottles flew everywhere, crowd running here and there. Natakot kami coz a man carrying a knife were approaching our corner. :-o So we ran up the stage with the band, who were still playing. GOod thing yung dalawang nag bugbugan at nag saksakan lang ang sugatan at may pulis sa loob ng venue.

pero a band i am now not friends with(mejo lumaki ulo nila, actually halos showband sila), i booked for a major music festival.
kasabay nila pedicab, chongkeys, sandwich(you get the drift, its quite a show). the setting was on beach up north and it was well attended since its festival concert for motorcycle riders sponsored by one of the biggest motorcycle dealers in the country.so ang audience, all over the philippines.
now this band, actually lived with me sa beach for almost a month, me booking them on almost all gigs i can find for them in that paradise. i even lend them my guitars since wala pa sila pambili. they are quite good actually, if you think in terms of proficiency. pero mejo corny and cheesy yung arrive ng banda.
well anyway,so ang scenario isang linggo na sila tumutugtog and yung vox mejo strained na on the last few gigs.
So dumating yung major event and since gusto ny maayos boses nya, di sya nagsalit buong araw at kalamansi juice lang all throughout the day while kami and the rest of his band, umiinom na starting umaga. They were the first to perform at 4pm. They did a few soundchecks. okay ang boses. The crowd got hyped up. So ayun nabuhayan yung banda so tinod nila performance and they did about 5 songs. The crowd asked for an encore kasi nga okay e.
Last song, patapos na. Nag request yung vox na taasan volume ng mic para swabe.
Ehhhhhhhhhh...........
On the last high note na kakantahin ng vox biglang pumiyok sya, as in yun na lang sana perfect na. Ang lakas pa ng pag ka piyok. Yung dalawang gitarista nya biglang tumalikod at halatang napatawa. Tas kami na nasa artists tents napa awwwwww. Hahaha. Comedy. Tawa kami ng tawa.
The rest of the gig nag inom ng sobra yung vox. Di ata nakayanan yung kahihiyan na pumiyok sya on a major stage. Hahaha. I still get a laugh thinking about it.

so these kids played, nagpasalamat naman sila na pinasingit namin sila. they played, they rocked, they we osam. while we had decided not to play, i decided to try and convince my guys na baka trip pa nila tumugtog - kaso ayaw na nila. they decided wag na talaga tumugtog (rak na rak ako nito) so major disappointment sa min lahat.
pag baba namin, andun yung mga bata...nag kkwentuhan and all... kako bakit di pa kayo umaalis? di na daw nila tinuloy lagare nila, they had decided daw bago namin sila pinasingit.

i remember it was our first gig at route196 after our set, our drummer told me that meron daw parang nakatayo na tao sa likod ko. matangkad, naka-black, masama tingin sa akin and gulo-gulo yung buhok...pero it was impossible kasi sobrang lapit ko lang sa amp sa likod ko and hindi naman siksikan ang route196 that night. so yun na yung freaky story ko.

- those fears of having IBS before/during a gig - traffic - missing amp speaker cables (happened twice,so i keep 1 in my pedal board bag and 1 in my bass players equipment bag) - i had a wah pedal fail on me last year the switch for some reason the nuts and washers got loose that it spoiled an entire song, now i use washers with internal tooth locks and i threadlock glue to make sure my wah doesnt do that
- "the guitar that couldnt be used", this happened 3 yrs ago..before every gig i prep my guitars and before i leave i always check it twice(action, trussrod etc)..at this point i only used my warrior/benford and wanted to introduce to use my suhr..so i did, this was summer and when i pulled up the suhr to put in a stand the neck had bowed with no relief so it was buzzing all over..i had no tools for it, so i had to tune/up/down for the entire gig, then it happened again when i took the train down to madison the neck had no relief..and yes i went through my dealer and the company and the responses were not comforting..but the guitar was great when its at home..
- HOSA cables no more..i like hosa cables but i fear them for my speaker cables..this year we played summerfest twice and you get crew to help you setup, soundcheck etc..when we were done playing the tech helping me unload was like a real-life paul bunyan or bigfoot, he pulled the cable off my amp (the right way) and the cable just broke to pieces..the tip separated from the shaft and he looked at me and said 'uh, your cable didnt make it', i just said the normal asian response of 'its ok haha'..i saw the whole thing and just couldnt believe it how it easily it broke..he kept apologizing when he helped me loaded my 2x12 (in one hand) and amp head in another(2 trips for me or 1 using my dolly) , HOSA did replace it with a new cable..but since then i made my own using neutrik 1/4 ends
- harley fest gig 2014, i use those schaller style strap locks which are cool, they work etc..but i've since been using threadlock adhesives to make sure they those nuts dont fly out. it was actually funny, it was during (verse part of wolf) that my guitar suddenly fell off from the upperhorn so i had to play kneeling down LOL..i had to call the tech from the headlining band to help me find the lock nut and washer which he did. i've been using this stuff since 08 when i tried them

college days: we played a gig at UST. we played mostly RHCP covers back then...pagdating sa venue, acoustic gig pala. there was even an acapela?-boyband group before our set. anyway, buti na lang they rented amps and drums. we still played pero we tried to play as clean as possible para di kami mashado stand-out. may pumalakpak naman pero medyo nahiya kami (kahit kasalanan naman talaga yun ng organizer). we also got paid...one of the cute-chic members of the org approached me and asked for my hand...then she handed me 500 pesos. wala pang 15 mins ubos na ung 500 sa 7-eleven.

During one of our recent gigs I got carried away by the song and started jumping to the beat. I stepped on the switch of the power strip which brought down my amp and effects pedal. Of course the whole band stared at me with their confused look which made it even more obvious. :)
Third day of that same gig, I played the intro for the wrong song. The bassist got so confused that he started flipping through his charts thinking that he had the wrong song. His actions made me think I was right so I yelled at everyone to restart the song without stopping. Of course I was still playing the wrong song lol! The other guitarist got so confused that he could not even start strumming. The vocalists didn't know what to sing. All the while the drummer maintained a steady beat which somehow saved us from a complete screw up. We were now 30 seconds into the wrong song. I checked the bassist again but he was still flipping his charts. I saw what was on his iPad and I realised my mistake. Problem was, what was on his ipad was also the wrong song and I was about to play the intro of another wrong song lol! Good thing the vocalists started singing the tune and lyrics even if the instruments were in complete chaos. That was enough to kickstart everyone and we made it through the entire song "as if nothing happened" (pffffttt!!!).

- those fears of having IBS before/during a gig - traffic - missing amp speaker cables (happened twice,so i keep 1 in my pedal board bag and 1 in my bass players equipment bag) - i had a wah pedal fail on me last year the switch for some reason the nuts and washers got loose that it spoiled an entire song, now i use washers with internal tooth locks and i threadlock glue to make sure my wah doesnt do that
- "the guitar that couldnt be used", this happened 3 yrs ago..before every gig i prep my guitars and before i leave i always check it twice(action, trussrod etc)..at this point i only used my warrior/benford and wanted to introduce to use my suhr..so i did, this was summer and when i pulled up the suhr to put in a stand the neck had bowed with no relief so it was buzzing all over..i had no tools for it, so i had to tune/up/down for the entire gig, then it happened again when i took the train down to madison the neck had no relief..and yes i went through my dealer and the company and the responses were not comforting..but the guitar was great when its at home..
- HOSA cables no more..i like hosa cables but i fear them for my speaker cables..this year we played summerfest twice and you get crew to help you setup, soundcheck etc..when we were done playing the tech helping me unload was like a real-life paul bunyan or bigfoot, he pulled the cable off my amp (the right way) and the cable just broke to pieces..the tip separated from the shaft and he looked at me and said 'uh, your cable didnt make it', i just said the normal asian response of 'its ok haha'..i saw the whole thing and just couldnt believe it how it easily it broke..he kept apologizing when he helped me loaded my 2x12 (in one hand) and amp head in another(2 trips for me or 1 using my dolly) , HOSA did replace it with a new cable..but since then i made my own using neutrik 1/4 ends
- harley fest gig 2014, i use those schaller style strap locks which are cool, they work etc..but i've since been using threadlock adhesives to make sure they those nuts dont fly out. it was actually funny, it was during (verse part of wolf) that my guitar suddenly fell off from the upperhorn so i had to play kneeling down LOL..i had to call the tech from the headlining band to help me find the lock nut and washer which he did. i've been using this stuff since 08 when i tried them
Lol, great list Bryan. The necks are probably prone to temperature change. Haven't had a problem like that with any guitars I played, thankfully. I try not to leave them in the car's trunk or anywhere that's either too cold or hot. That would effin suck since I only bring one of everything (except picks and strings) everytime I play out.

hmmmmm parang alam ko na kung anong banda to. tama ba, yung drummer yung pinakamaganda sakanila? =))
...madalas kayo sa BKB ano? malamang kilala niyo sila hehe part pa naman ng "appreciation gesture" sana ng banda was to give them lots of guitar parts with "maximum pelvic thrusting" (well sabi ng lead guitarist namin)
pero grabe fizz..kaasar yung na dupe kayo..sa style style nila..bummer..

totoo yan bro. recently we almost had a strike three from them (home turf pa naman namin) in that the bassist and i made like stink papunta sa venue despite the fact we waz all busy. instead of being part of the first five, we were bumped almost to the last of the show - anhahaba pa naman ng mga kanta ng mga kasamahan namin!!!
buti nagka-aregluhan at na-verify na prior sa pagdating namin we were guaranteed an early slot.
pero pasensya na mga sir, wala ko pics nung said chic band. i am hoping to see them again some time, kasi apart from what happened, they were really good musicians :)

does anyone here remember SUPREMO or SUPREMO's bar?
one of my first gig in a "real" bar was at that place. my setup was a strat > raon wah > nobels od > venue amp it was our first gig at that place and I was setting up my pedals (didn't have a pedal board back then) when I switched on the amp, walang tunog...couldn't figure out why. and because I was a noob, I gave up and just decided to plug directly to amp (which I would exclusively do years and years after). my bassist was curious about my technical situation, so he decided to try my pedals on his amp....and it worked.
yun pala...nagkamali ako ng saksak sa mga input and output jack ng pedals ko. super noob talaga. boplaks :p
anyway, after that technical-noob situation, we played our typical all-cover-noob set: aeroplane - rhcp coffee shop - rhcp blood sugar sex magic - rhcp guerilla radio - ratm NIB - sabbath/primus

Para hindi OT, nung tumutugtog kami sa debut nung friend ko bigla akong naputulan ng string yung High E. Wala kaming extra strings pati wala ding backup na gitara huhu tinuloy nalang namin kahit putol :((

my sister and her *ugh* boyfriend, who's fortunately a professional musician and did go to college to study music, used to act in this capacity. whenever they do nababalance yung tunog. pero lately di pinapayagan sa mga events, leaving us at the mercy of "soundtechs" :lol:

April 2014
Front act sa UDD, in the middle of the first song nawala yung tunog nung amp, so i did some quick troubleshooting and oks naman lahat ng gamit ko, nirekta ko sa amp yung guitar and wala pa ding tunog, so sa amp talaga yung sira. So what we did is ako na lang yung gumamit nung amp nung vox namin and sya is nag direct na sa PA.
Then on the second song nawala na naman yung tunog nung amp! as in cut off ako sa tugtog namin :( masama pa yung mga tech di man lang kumikibo nakatingin lang, then nung chinecheck na nila di rin nila malaman kung anong problema, yung isa in on-off-on-off pa yung amp hehe.
So ang nangyari is nakarekta na rin ako sa PA hanggang matapos yung set T.T
Circa 2014 ulit:
Ininvite kami tumugtog sa isang prod, we were the first band to arrive, nung magpapalista kami, nakakagulat lang kasi yung list halos puno na eh kami yung unang dumating! tapos yung last 3 slots na lang yung available, pero no choice kami kasi bumyahe pa kami ng malayo para lang sa gig na yun so we waited for 5 hours bago pa kami makatugtog. Ang masaklap pa nun wala nang nanonood T.T
Febfair, 2015
Patay sindi yung multi effects ko, yung extension cord nung sound system ang luwag T.T
Moral lesson:
Bring a decent amp, if possible. Pati na rin extension cord or extra battery (for Multi effects). And as one of our forumites have mentioned, mas okay pa minsan mag jam sa bahay kasama ng mga friends, at least di ka nauunahan sa slot at hawak mo ang oras :)

Inaya ako ng mga kaibigan ko sa music org na sumali sa isang fair sa loob ng campus na may kahalong Battle of the Bands segment. Nung araw ng competition nalaman namin na karamihan ng competing bands ay puro high school students ang members. Nahiraman pa nga ako ng gamit pero hindi naman yun ang interesanteng kwento.
Pag-akyat ng isang grupo sa stage, may isang gitarista na may dalang practice amplifier. Mahaba ang pag-uusap ng tech ng event at ng gitarista - gusto niyang isaksak yung amp na yun sa mas malalaking amp sa stage dahil "may distortion." Sa madaling salita, kapalit ng stompbox, gusto niyang gamitin ang amp niya bilang distortion effect! Nang malaunan e sumuko na ang bata at sumaksak na lang ng rekta sa amp (isang Vox AC100 at Marshall combo ang choices para sa sasaksakang amps, parehong tube).
Hindi nila kasalanang wala pa silang karanasan sa pro-grade equipment, pero nakakatawa lang balik-balikan 'to lalo't maganda din yung naging tugtog namin nung mga panahong 'yon (champion yung tone ng amps, maganda yung monitors sa stage, etc.).

2002 - Sa Ardz Cafe sa may katipunan. 10 Tix lang naman per band, so 5 kami di 200 each na lang. kaso wala free beer. Eh mga estudyante pa lang kami, so pag dating dun Balot lang kaya ng budget. :-D
Mga 2010 ata yun, may gig sa marikina, basketball court. Ang Makulit may Pa Dance Contest, So ang Nangyari alternate. Banda then Dance Contest. :lol: Kasabay namin sa lineup yung Knk. So nung natugtog sila yung mga tao naka tulala sa kanila, :lol:

last year nung semis ng muziklaban sa km 21 (farview)
tamad ako magdala ng board kaya gitara lang dinala ko.
pagdating sa venue, weak af yung od ng nasaksakan ko na venue amp. yung tipong anlakas na ng attack ko on the strings and the tone knob was cranked to 11 (lol) pero clean pa rin.
masakit nito, iniwan kami ng drummer namin before we got to the semis. akala niya eliminated na kami e, tapos bumitaw. so it was a replacement drummer who filled in.
sirang sira tugtugan namin nun, pero swabe lang din kasi nadiskubre ko ang bandang MAY. :razz: :razz: :razz:
moral lesson :
- basta't me oto, wag na tamarin mag empake ng effects - matulog ng maayos at wag magpaka mandirigma, wala naman mapapala sa huli - siguraduhin ang mga miyembro na di bibitaw pag crucial na labanan

Tumugtog kami this past Saturday sa isang bar. Maingay tinugtog namin kaya halos walang nakaappreciate. Walang stage, kaya halos katabi ng tumutugtog at equipments ang kitchen at banyo. Sa harap namin dumadaan ang mga tao kapag nagbabanyo. Laging natatapakan yun cable ko. Buti na lang isang beses lang nahugot sa amp. haha

My first "sad" experience was from a Club Dredd gig during that era when productions were flourishing (circa '92-'94).
I can clearly remember that evening:
There was a full moon, and we all felt funky. Even our buddies who hopped in weren't feeling too well. We had to rush a guy to a nearby clinic before the gig coz he wasn't feeling well.
For some strange reason right before the gig, i sprained my ankle. (i forget the details)
bad luck struck again when we found out that we were getting shoved to be the 2nd last band on the list to perform. I lobbied against it, to no avail.
Right when we were about to get onstage, the last band pushed in and set up, to our shock and dismay.
They ended their (horribly noisy, cacophonous) set, dismantled their gear and left.
We get onstage, then just as we were about to begin, the lights suddenly got switched on... Didn't to play a single tune.
Second story, at some sports complex in Cavite.
We rehearsed like crazy, and made our way to the place. it was supposed to be a big local event, and there were HEAPS of bands, IIRC, 40 or something.
We were early and had a soundcheck. Then sat back and chilled, watching the other bands, deflecting the folks that wanted to borrow our gear (c'mon man! bring your own stuff!)
it was our turn to perform (close to the very last again - we must've sucked! hahah) then right after in the middle of the 2nd or 3rd song folks started running out of the complex.
a guy came in wielding a gun and threatened to shoot people. he was a local that couldnt tolerate the noise much longer.
our drummer froze as the guy pointed his gun at him. i snuck away from the stage, i felt that the guy was mighty pissed but wouldnt exactly shoot people.
necrobump ako.
kinda familliar with this story. kung sa Imus cavite to present ako dun. ito ung gig na namato ung mga kapitbahay nung sports complex kasi nga sobrang ingay at dame ng metal sa cavite, at un nga may nag amok na may dalang baril. hahaha. (most of the residence sa imus kasi fond of glam rock like poison, queen, lynyrd skynyrd, etc etc. most of them hate metal because they cannot understand the lyrics. :lol: :lol:
sorry dude for the bad experience sa cavite. actually its a normal thing noon. :lol:

Hindi sa akin/amin nangyari, dun sa tropa naming banda pero involved ako. Bale gig sa school yun tapos sila na yung tumutugtog and tapos na kami. Papunta kami sa school paper office namin para tumambay saglit. Mejo malayo yung daan kung iikot kami so naisip namin na sa likod na lang ng stage dumaan. Nung dumadaan na kami napatid ako sa wire ng extension na pinagsasaksakan ng mga amps, nahugot yun kaya nawalan ng tunog yung tropa namin hehe. Bigla sila napatingin sa akin. :wave:
