PEPE!!  Kumusta bro?

You guys should check them out!  Mga halimaw ang mga ito hehehe!  Their drummer Loubert Vidal is a monster behind the drumkit!

Thanks for the kind words, Pepe!  8)  I love progressive music, whether it's prog-rock or fusion or electric jazz. But I would love to have a prog-music project someday, kapag kaya na uli.  And at least, I'm able to apply some of my progressive musical infuences with my band.

I'll rename this thread... Gawin nating prog drummer thread ito.  I know there are plenty of prog-heads here...

Chad!  Idol!  First of all, it was nice seeing you again kahapon sa JB Park Square. I'll take note of the artists na nabanggit mo.

I can't imagine EN without Loubert on the lineup.

I believe that playing progressive rock music is a little bit of those... plus more!  It's always nice to nail down wild fills and lay down complicated polyrhythms and/or odd time patterns.  But what we'll be playing will always be determined by the music.  We need to make sure that our drum parts will work well with the song.

Progressive rock is not only about being over-technical.  A lot of progressive rock music is also about story-telling.  It's highly conceptual.  Hence, its nickname - "art rock".

Here's some educational info about progressive rock music ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_rock .

Roger da progger!!  Musta bro?  Wag mo akong i-"sir" haha!  Sana maka-jam uli kita, kasama si Chad and the rest of the guys.

Any more recommended prog listenings?

Nowadays, I'm very much into Tool's music.  I don't think I can play their stuff, pero ang dami kong napupulot na ideas from their music & from Danny Carey's inventive drum parts.  I also recently checked out some of Frank Zappa's works, knowing that he's an iconic musical figure & he employed great drummers (Bozzio, Colaiuta, Wackerman, etc.).

yay! another convert... ehehehe obvious ba na im preaching Hiromi's good news? ehehehe im such a huge fan of her music talaga kasi. :D  it's a good mix of straight up jazz... fusion and a touch of prog... which is a good mix... tapos may konting ka-kenkoyan pa so balanced diet. :D

hey man... oo nga jam tayo minsan!!!  Primus na to!!! astig! :D

sa prog metal naman, try mo opeth bro... galing tong mga to... i love how they paint such vivid images through their music...  im not a big fan of growling pero with opeth it works... plus when he sings sa ibang parts using his normal singing voice, ganda ng boses niya, swabe!

Grand Conjuration (Parang tunog primus yung melody ng vocals... ehehehe... astig mga drum parts dito)

Windowpane

Syempre King Crimson! one of the best when it comes to art rock! :D

Indiscipline (with the almost robotic bruford on drums... grabe lufet!)

Satori In Tangier

Thrak

:D  when it comes to pushing music into unknown territories... well... primus has pushed the envelope far enough, it's flying off to venus. ehehehe... my favorite primus tracks...

John the fisherman (dito maririnig ang prog side ng primus, dig that arrangement and awesome drum groove by herb)

Mrs. Blaileen (favorite ko to!)

great the sacred cow

Welcome To This World (dont mind the fan video... just listen to the track ehehehe another prog influenced primus song)

I guess we would need a bit of both, coz kung ok ung fill then di naman makabalik sa time it defeats the purpose of the fill diba.odd time?nasa bilang na toh dude, if the song calls for an odd time, well, it should be odd time.sometimes kasi we tend to associate prog to odd time alone, but the truth is,its just a small factor or element of progressive music.we personally perceive technique as a tool.of course you can't always get away w/ a screw driver, sometimes you need a wrench or a hammer.the more tools you have, the more equipped you are.

I guess time keeping is the most important tool & drummers play a vital role in it.  :-)
