Title: Guitar String Gauge
Post by: estaciodanny on July 26, 2014, 04:29:51 PM

I use 11's. They sound really great with my Tele's

I went to 11's and never looked back. I got the tone I wanted from my tele's.

I guess it's all a matter of preference. Whatever feels most comfortable to you, use that.
Personally, I use 10s. I believe it's a perfect balance between having the (more) ballsy tone of a heavier gauge and the playability of a lighter gauge.
However, I'm trying to learn how to play faster. (Operative word is "trying". LOL) So maybe I'd shift to a lighter gauge to enable me to make bends using my pinky. Medyo mahina pa yung pinky ko dahil I haven't used it in lead work for the longest time.

10's dahil sa volume and sustain <3

The thinner the neck the greater the tension of the strings, i use 10s on my thick necked strat Eb tuning and 9s on my Ibanez RG at standard tuning. I wanted to use 11s on my strat pero mahirap mag bend

9s sa standard tuning or 10s sa half step down. taglamig kasi ^-^
Sanayan lang and a lot of time picking my nose para kumapal yung kalyo. :nosebleed: :-P

Gauge 11 on a vintage style bridge with Standard Tuning and also 11 on the Floyd Rose bridge with the Drop C, gauge 10 on a Floyd Rose with Drop D. having overpitch bends with gauge 10 and below. di ko alam kung bakit, hahahaha!

I always break 8's and 9's. 10's gauge is ideal for me...IMHO...

10s for both electric and acoustic.
Iba yung tone dahil sa increased volume and sustain vs the 9s. 11s are better tone wise but they're too heavy for me. Weird thing is that I find it easier to bend 10s than 9s. Not sure, but the resistance of the heavier gauge gives me a surer sense of the tone (not pitch).

totoo ba to? or ako lang nakakaramdam na masama sa gitara ang 11s? since i sold my strat
I hope hindi sya nakakasira...I'm so comfortable with 11s that I find it hard to play anything lighter...can't afford na din to get another guitar.

For me, 9's too slinky. 11's too heavy. 10's balanced. Feel-wise & Tone-wise

I use 12s for my Tele because the songs in our band is in Drop B, medyo floppy na yung 11s pababa eh

Battle and triumph.. sa bends and all. Sarap talaga :)

I use 11s on standard tuning for all of my guitars. I want to move up to 12s, but they're harder to find locally.
yep meron nag susupply nasa sulit. 12s
gano na katagal sa guitar mo yung 11s?
nag 11s lang ako for almost 3years ..standards..
feeling ko nasisira ang neck. or baka feeling ko lang yun. since squire korea lang naman yung ginamitan ko ng 11s. any observations about 11s? bumalik na kao sa 10s this year eh.

i once used 11s (standard tune) sa lp ko, i got used to it after some days of playing. tone wise panalo, nahihirapan lang ako with fast passages. but i feel that given enough time and practice pwede naman.
all of my guitars though are strung with .10s. as the above posts say, there is a balance between tone, playability and durability. i like doing fairly large bends and pre-bends, tumatagal naman for some reason. although i find .09s easier to play, yung kasing .10s pwede ko pang gigilan.

seems redundant :) what i mean if you use 11's on the tele .. i quoted our friend using 11's on a tele ... trustrod will help? thanks
Yup. Definitely. Because the truss rod will "counter" whatever string gauge (tension) you will use, just adjust it to optimum tightness or looseness. If the guitar does not have a truss rod and you put strings on it (even 9s), the neck will underbow. It's there to straighten the neck. :)

Elixir strings (11's or 10-52's) on my six string guitars (Cort and Ibanez) before...
switched to 7 string guitar now (Elixir 10-56) :)

will try on my tele to have more heavy sound twang feel ! :)

The Telecaster I have now has 11s on (GHS strings) in E standard tuning, while my Ibanez RG has an 11-49 Elixir set in standard tuning. Just have it set up right and you should be fine.

started with 9s, then slowly climbed up to 11s....after not playing for a long while, nahirapan ako sa 11s so I decided not to make playing so hard for me...dapat masaya eh. so I went back to 10s.
my reason for increasing the string gauge was for tuning stability...but I realized that can be addressed by proper set

I use 9s on a Dropped D tuning on 25.5" scale. the feel is so right for me specially executing vibratos. I tried a set of 10s recently but I still prefer 9s
my verdict thinner gauge: more comfortable to bend, warmer sounding, more playing time for me(hindi masakit sa kamay), mas ma chug heavier gauge: more effortless alternate picking, brighter, less playing time for me, tighter on lows(less flub)
overall it's a matter of preference. :)

I got so used playing a wizard neck that I forgot the feel of thicker strat necks, I'm using 10s on my strat(standard tuning) now and enjoying Hendrix tunes, after two weeks I'll change them to 11s on proper Eb tuning (kung kaya ko. Hehehe)

11's. Power Slinky tuned to Eb. Its a sign I have to replace strings.
