Very cool!

 Astig, Congrats Master Perf
-
Are we congratulating him because he gets FREE pickups or are we congratulating him for using an average sounding pickup brand?
Well, the truth is we are congratulating him for being the FIRST Filipino to get a DiMarzio endorsement. So for that ... congrats.
Otherwise, there are much better sounding brands out there than DiMarzio.
-
Congrats Sir Perf!!!! Dapat matagal na to

pinoy pride!

Just wow, and andami nyang pups'

Congratulations! The FIRST!

Bro in fairness, Dimarzio stepped up their game in the vintage sound department. Virtual PAFs and the other new PAF models were surprisingly acceptable to a lot of tone snobs.
Will Dimarzio be like Tom Holmes, Throbak, or BKP? Of course not. But have they improved since the '80s? A lot.
-
The True Velvets, Twang Kings, and Pre B1s are pretty good. You just have to match with the right guitar :)

Nice to hear from you skunky... As much as there are some improvements to DiMarzio, I even gave their Chris Broderick pickups a chance which I thought were a huge improvement but off they went and fell short of Bareknuckles by far.
With regards to PAFs, and now that I have a great sounding set of REAL PAFs, DiMarzio improvements are way way way behind on their PAF series in comparison to the real ones.
And as DiMarzio improved, so did the boutique guys. Currently, the BEST PAF recreation to date in my opinion of a great sounding PAF is Stephens Designs HD PAF set. Hands Down. Quite Close.
I am beyond tone snob... I am for what works and sounds great. Again, DiMarzio I feel are average -- a minimum standard on your guitar. Anything less is bad; and anything more ranges from a subtle improvement to the Holy Grail of pickups.
-

Quite True. How about pickups that seem to match every guitar and carries each guitar to a level of tone never before imagined? These pickups exist but they are NOT DiMarzios.
-
I would just like to seek clarification on my position -- I do recognize Larry DiMarzio as an innovator and the company started the after market thing along with Mighty Mite, etc. If it were not for DiMarzio, we would be stuck with substandard parts on both higher priced and lower priced guitars. Plus, we can attribute the 'hot' output pickups that characterized some classic rock and a lot of 80s metal to his innovation.
But... DiMarzio somewhere down the line, stopped being a custom shop of sound innovation and became more like the Toyota of guitar pickups. Not a bad thing specially considering, DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan are EXPECTED minimums in today's USA and European made guitars. However, on every model they offer, there is a boutique manufacturer that outdoes them by a MILE! This is very obvious in a 'boutique' signal chain. In fact, the pickups become the limiting factor and ARE the reason that makes your uber expensive guitar sound bad. That being said; if you use multi-fx and are not too particular with your sound; DiMarzios are the way to go.
At the end of the day, when you buy into the brand and the list of endorsers, selecting the cool color combinations, looking into a pickup that looks like everything else except that the pole screws use allen wrenches -- all these factors are easily tiring until the next year with Mr. endorser produces the fifth variant of his pickup. Its like trying to keep up with the Joneses. Its only the sound and response that remains after the marketing hype. And I can tell you that DiMarzio pickups do NOT do it for me.
P.S. Just my two cents... I used to love DiMarzios and owned countless models and even today a lot of guitars that I buy come with DiMarzios BUT when the boutique pickups arrived (though there are some bad ones too that sound bad compared to DiMarzios) my sound became richer, more defined, bigger and thicker, without any harshness.
-
I do not care if DiMarzio is the best or worst sounding aftermarket pickup. Personally, the only DiMarzio pickup that I really liked is the Twang King. Every other DiMarzio model is either too harsh or too nasal sounding. To me, DiMarzio is more of a shredder's pickup (I do not mean it in a bad way).
I'm just happy for Sir Perf for the recognition that is long due. Siguradong marami dito sa PM ang naimpluensiyan na mag-aral maggitara during the early 90s dahil sa kanya (along with Paul Sapiera, another DiMarzio user and awesome player).

Is this not what we're supposed to be discussing here?
-
Haha oo nga. Alex, just start a new thread comparing pickups I suppose. That would be an interesting topic too.
For me, bottonline, and for the price, I think DiMarzio's do the job fine.

Sorry... I just dislike DiMarzios so much because there are really much better products out there that deliver. That being said it is an achievement for somebody to be officially in the DiMarzio catalog.

Relax lang guys, we're not looking to the fact of DiMarzio is an average(mid-end) pickup-producing company o whatever it may be, but we're looking to what our fellowmen had reached, one of the endorsers of a well-known(at least for the masses) pickup brand. Well it just won't stay there forever, this is just start for sir Perf. malay natin, He'll be endorsing one of the top-most pickup-producing companies. Dahan-Dahan lang,
Congrats sir Perf! =D
-
Truly a pinoy pride. Congrats Maestro!!

i want to congratulate him for sounding good despite the "average sounding pickup brand" that he uses.
-
Classic GC thread derailing the main topic. :-P
-
I don't understand the hate with pickup brand newly endorsed by Filipino artist just because of "self-standard", or the subjective "good or bad sounding". It's like saying Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert, Satriani, and etc. have selected the Inferior brand. Just my two cents
Going back to the title of the thread. Congrats Sir Perf! Well deserved.
-
Congrats to Maestro Perf! :)

Pwede! :-D

galing!!!!!

Thread title should use "endorser." Artists help promote the product, not the other way around.
Anyway, way to go, Maestro Perf!

hahaha pede

Congratulations to Mr. Perf for this endorsement. He deserves it.
Off-Topic (kinda)
What I don't get with a few forum members here, is why do bash the brand that a fellow Pinoy musician is endorsing? Call it Internet freedom, but why on a thread dedicated to his accomplishment? Why don't you start a separate thread about it, or reply on a thread that you've actually made your point?
Why does it have to be on this thread? A hint of crab-mentality perhaps? You're happy for him for being an endorser of a brand then you bash the brand?
Francis M. once said " Iwasan mo ang ingit, Ang sa iba'y ibig mong makamit; Dapat nga ika'y matuwa sa napala ng iyong kapatid"
With all the much-vaunted gears, skills, gadgets and knowledge you have, prove/achieve something about yourself and dare get an endorsement too from your boutique brand of pick-ups.
I am happy for Perf, proud of his achievements with his music.
How about you? What are you doing about you music now?

Point#1: DiMarzio is a standard neither worse nor best
Point#2: There are other much better brands than DiMarzio and also there are other more brands worse than DiMarzio
Point#3: Perf has made it to be an endorser of DiMarzio as the first Pinoy to do so
Writing music and selecting gear are two different things. Don't need to be famous for me to be able to determine bad sounding from good sounding pickups. (Off topic lang)
I am NOT jealous. In fact, I am happily NOT using DiMarzio Pickups. (Off topic lang)

Going back to the title of the thread. Congrats Sir Perf! Well deserved.
I have owned and tested various MIJ Ibanez Signature Artist Series Guitars with Signature Pickups and at least 90% of them sound like crap. By the way, long before Ibanez started putting Bareknuckle pickups into their guitars; I was already using them. Just my two cents

Point#1 : No one saying it's the best or better than others as per music's subjective characteristic. But hey, you're here so let's divert the focus of the thread to oblivion.
Point#2 : That's true, but "let's do this on Perf's thread because..err I have a point and I want to get it across...in this thread"
Point#3 : "Err no, still, let's bash it in his thread."
The mentality seeps through the cracks. Pinoy pride at its best.
Anyway, I'll stop feeding the troll.
Congratulations to Mr. Perf!

everything here, except for point #3 is irrelevant. instead of posting these comments and creating mayhem in a potentially positive thread, you may just create a new thread and maybe there we could also celebrate how awesome your pickups are.
-
naks, grats master Perf!
-

It is NOT my intent to celebrate MY pickups. I just specified a clearly superior pickup brand as an example. I use several boutique brands each with its own character. I do not see anything negative if I say DiMarzio is average/or standard.

"Pinoy Pride" at its best... WOW. Its so over used, for example:
Kung sabihin ko panget ang Mang Max at Elegee pickups compared to USA made pickups; sasabihin ng iba na nang insulto ako at wala akong Pinoy Pride.
Yet at the same time, gusto niyo masabi na Maganda ang USA made DiMarzio pickups in this thread because of Pinoy Pride. Ano ba talaga?
Ang Pinoy Pride parang mas Pinoy BIAS...
-
parang naging pageant na lang tong topic para ipagpugay ang nakamit ni Master Perf ah
-
Congrats Perf! :)

of course there's nothing negative with that - it is an opinion. you can even say that you're a better guitarist than perf, if you do think so.
in terms of forum ethics though, anything irrelevant is nonsensical and will stand against common forum rules. like i said, if you want to highlight the "superior pickup brand" or the "several boutique brands" that you have, then no one is stopping you from creating another thread about those topics.

Nasaan na mga mods na mag-iimplement ng rules???
well, technically in topic naman so far. i mean they are talking about dimarzio.
and so far wala pa namang sobrang heated argument.
let's keep it cool guys.
let's just congratulate perf for an endorsement deal that most of us would like to have too. *keyword is most*
-
+1 for both rye and kawal.
it's like someone had his achievements, and someone pops and says, your endorsed brand is overrated, mine is better, yours is inferior, I have proven it with my ultimate ears. Attention whoring at its finest(excuse the pun).
Anyway, having FREE pickups(if it's definitely free) because of endorsement and hardwork is much better, than bragging the existence and possession of great sounding(not better, it's subjective), more expensive pickups.
-
well, technically in topic naman so far. i mean they are talking about dimarzio.
offtopic: the topic is about "master perf endorsing dimarzio" and not a thread about dimarzio (there's a separate thread for that) nor about firemodel's pickup preference (there's a separate thread for that).
Cant help but think firemodel is untouchable in PM.
-
Well.. Just my 2 cents.. I dont think he's untouchable... Its just that, nowadays, some of his comments are not taken too seriously...

@skrumian point well taken.
@orange same. i mean, alam naman nating mga PM regulars how he is. wag nalang nating pansinin pag ganyan. not really untouchable, but its just most of the guys are tired of his [gooey brown stuff].
-
Baka stepping stone Lang yang dimarzio, after 50 years mag endorse na sya ng bkps :-D

to be honest, i love it when alex posts very technical stuff about pickups. i'm also in pursuit of becoming a nerd when it comes to these things - the fralins, bareknuckles, etc. up to now i'm actually still waiting for a don mare vs suhr comparison from him after he acquired his suhr guitar. i just want things to be appropriate and proper - the relevant comments on the thread at hand. no more, no less.
-
congrats sir perf :)
-
Can't congratulate you enough, Sir Perf, for bagging this endorsement.
Many musicians can only dream about being an endorser of a company that has contributed so much to the sound of rock, and all sorts of music, such as Dimarzio. They wouldn't have kept the likes of Vai, Satch, Gilbert, EJ, et al, if they weren't doing something right. (Too bad the Swedish Meatball deflected to the other camp. I still love that Meatball anyway!)
On behalf of the community, I apologize for the misbehavior on this thread that's pure intent was to cheer you on. Every town has a village idiot, but not enough dragons to feed them to ;-)
-

I also find Alex's posts very informative. There is certainly a lot to learn from his sound and gear focused exploration, and this is a pretty neat bonus to have here.
Unfortunately, after all these years, the quality of his gear has greatly surpassed the quality of his online communication skills. He could be better and the info more digestable, without the alienating qualities that make him appear to be the fearsome troll under the bridge preying on the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Bro, I'm stuck in GoT limbo!
Book 6 is nonwhere in sight and the world is praying for GRRM to live long enough to have book 7 published.
Then you've got the tv series, about to do book 4, the dragging book. Argh.

heyyyy book 4 is not that bad bro HAHAHA it contains some of the key scenes that'll bring light to a lot of things. plus a lot of cersei scenes <3
BTT:
i've been seeing perf's posts in instagram hahaha looks like he's in the process of experimenting with pickup combinations! envy! =))
