Title: best/good electric guitar for 5-10k budget

hi guys/masters/virtuosos! i want to try playing an electric guitar as i am used to playing acoustic and classical. been doing research in the internet lately but i want to know some first hand experiences. what do you think would be the best if not, a good guitar to buy within the 5-10k range? inputs would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance :)

SX, Greg Bennett designed Samick, and kung kasya sa budget Tokai. These guys make really nice teles apparently :lol:
If you're willing to push your luck, RJ has some nice LP copies... IF you get a good one.
kung galing ka ng acoustic/classical ok magsimula sa LP copies, ayos yung sa GB by Samick kung may matsambahan ka pa :)

I highly recommend The Greg Bennett CD3 (Php9k)
AWESOME bang for the buck (Mahogany body, better-than average stock PuPs, excellent design and build quality overall)

first electric? i'm assuming you haven't found 'your sound' yet...
specs ang ma-re-recommend ko:
1. pickup configuration: humbucker, single coil, humbucker with 5-way switch (for versatility). hum-hum if you're a metal head. 2. rosewood fretboard (dark), generally speaking, facilitates faster playing (as opposed to maple which is light in color). [trolls, please stay away, topic is first electric]. 3. bridge: ummm with your budget, ignore floyd rose equipped guitars... unless you really need to do divebombs (so passé). wag ka na magulat if traditional tremolos don't work (non-locking), ganun lang talaga yun. 4. number of frets: 21, 22, 24. 'kaw bahala. mas madali mag Em sweep sa 24-fret guitar (mas madaling abutin) kaysa sa 21-fret dahil sa lokasyon ng neck joint (if you're into that stuff).

napakadaling maghanap ng gitara sa pinas... ang mahirap hanapin dito sound module for keyboardists (LOL). yung gusto ko sana (pianobox 2) dumoble na presyo, bwiset.

Yeah, what genre you'd like to get into first will help determine what guitar/pickup config will work best for you when you start out: Les Paul, superstrats, two humbucker guitars in general: rock, jazz, punk, pop, metal Stratocaster: blues, rock, dance, pop, jazz Telecaster: country, indie, dance, pop, post rock P90/Les Paul Junior: punk, indie, hard rock, country electric spanish/hollowbody: jazz, punk, rock
these aren't the limitations of certain models/pickup configs, they're just the best config-music pairing that works right out of the box. there are people who do metal on teles and blues on Flying Vs so these are just guidelines.

regardless of genre, my best suggestion I can give is to buy 2nd hand electric guitar. Your 10k budget can buy a pristine condition guitar with a brand new price of 20k+ if you're lucky or patient enough to wait and search for a good deal. :)

go used..search for the premium guitars na presyong adik! japan, korea...especially the old ones are pretty good.. who knows baka makachamba ka ng presyong adik na top brands..

There's an asterisk for that suggestion....used pero minimal ang fret wear. Hindi na baleng puro gasgas ang finish basta ayos pa rin ang mga frets

Mag test din po muna by trying out different body, trem and pick up configurations. Malay po nito les Paul type or Floyd trem ang gusto nito. Researching on the web can only go so far. Iba yung tactile feedback, Hiram muna sa friends, try sa stores etc, Happy Hunting!

after 5 years lahat ng gitara feel mo na ang tawag dyan GAS :lol:

I won't buy this. entry level Washburns are already at their worst in years, mas pangit pa yung package. If I were you, I'd be scouting the classifieds here for a nice secondhand SX, Greg Bennett, Cort or Samick guitar and a Stagg 20GAR (ok lang kahit bago pero ok din secondhand) instead. it will run about the same price, and you get a superior guitar (aka not sht) and a very nice clean amp that is absolutely pedal friendly.

get them brand new then :lol: it'll be worth your money :) what's an extra 5K for your guitar and a decent amp, compared to getting the crappy washburns and you'd be buying pedals here and there and you can't get the sound you want because the sound you have is severely limited by quality in the first place.

Just my 2 petot, but....
Get a telecaster-type design. It will help you with nailing down your technique, kasi I feel the tele circuit/harness is less forgiving than other electric guitar design-types. Don't worry about the negative "hipster" connotations, lol.
Budget tele-wise... The headstock's all wrong, but the Gregg Bennetts I've fiddled with seemed a little better than the handful of SX that I've molested. It'll be much easier to justify upgarding to a Fender Tele than if you start with a MIJ like a Tokai B, or somesuch, hehe.

@ horge +1. once pa lang ako naka-try ng tele... it delightfully revealed my terrible technique... lalo na pag nag-legato ka... bwiset, hahaha.
@ mark j hadlok bai. compare mo yung headstock nung isang example mo sa ashton. similar sila ng headstock. baka generic guitar template yan na sinasalpakan ng different brand names (e.g. ashton/medelli drum pads or cdr-king products).

Out-of-Topic: Also went to Pitch Perfect Iloilo, tingin-tingin sa mga Stats and Teles and found this Classic Vibe Telecaster 50s for 16K (sigurado mag didiscount yan sa December). http://intl.fender.com/en-PH/squier/guitars/telecaster/classic-vibe-telecaster-50s-maple-fingerboard-butterscotch-blonde/
Nagtingin-tingin din ako sa Youtube for the sound of this guitar. Although Made in China, parang mas gusto ko yung Tings and Wangs nya. Though still looking for some options.

strongly recommend those tajima strats. feels solid and premium compared sa mga fernando/SX/Stagg in the price range. dinemo din to ni Anton Atengco aka psychic_sushi, swabe naman talga. 10's lang na strings ang katapat IMHO.

strongly recommend those tajima strats. feels solid and premium compared sa mga fernando/SX/Stagg in the price range. dinemo din to ni Anton Atengco aka psychic_sushi, swabe naman talga. 10's lang na strings ang katapat IMHO.

This is great advice from sonicassault :)
That specific washburn will fall apart on you quicker than a skyflakes in your jeans pocket. If you're patient and willing to scour, there's always great second-hand deals to be had on the forums like here or classifieds also like OLX. Ebay too.

tapos na yung era ng Washburn para sa affordable models. sa mid-high end ka na lang kukuha sa kanila for signature models. yung low end nila pickup selector pa lang quit na agad sayo.

On the bright side, maraming lumalabas na dating custom shop na Washburn for VERY affordable prices. I saw a bunch of Washburn Sonic 6 (Made In USA) sa mga used guitar shops sa Japan.

onga eh. washburns and entry level Yamaha Pacificas 1 year lang bumibigay na. yung mga Squier Strats din na nahawakan ko parang di nagpantay ang kahit anong joint or screw. may RJ pa nga na mas solido yung build (syempre yung MIK era, and of course ibang usapan yung tunog). bakit kaya may mura na custom shop ang washburn sa secondary market? dahil bumaba yung brand equity nila? I mean, who really buys washburn anymore? mas malakas pa nga ata ang Dean in terms of branding eh

I think it's also poor marketing and guidance on the part of US Music Corp (parent co of Washburn). It's all about the $$$.
Tignan mo yung Parker. What happened? Ken Parker catered to a niche market that was steadily gaining ground and growing fast because of the high quality and uniqueness of his designs and thrived. After US Music Corp bought his company, what did they do but started cutting corners, introducing a 'budget' line, and other 'brand' tarnishing measures. Way too early for a 'boutique' brand. It just shows the company drive to 'profit' at the cost of losing established rapport with consumers (reputation, word of mouth, reviews, etc). The least common denominator end result and 'trickle-down' is these 'ultra' budget guitars, very cheap and low cost to make BUT very poor quality.
Smart companies avoid such association with such horrendous quality. Granted, there's a market for good, affordable, 'budget' guitars and a dependable way to make and market them, and God forbid make a profit. Companies like Ibanez, Schecter are masters at it, even snobby PRS started to make their SE lines (in order to compete against illegal Chinese PRS copies). BUT the one thing they did not do is 'scrape the bottom of the barrel' for profit's sake. They didn't 'eke' it out.... Washburn's mistake.
... and that's why you see nice quality custom shop Washburn's at bargain basement prices.

TLDR
@sonicassault. I applauded your advice to the op. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' rings true in this regard to his interest in the Washburn package, and better to look elsewhere. Sayang lang yung pera kahit mura.
( :) Sorry if I offended any Washburn owners. Not all Washburns are bad quality. I myself have a couple of Washy's in my collection)

At that price my best bet would be SX telecaster...maganda naman craftsmanship and decent sounding..ganda din ng natural finish..brand ndew is 7k but im sure ul find a decent second hand that will fit ur budget
