Title: Lone Drummers' / Hobbyist Thread *merged*
Post by: Bammbamm on December 30, 2006, 01:11:10 PM
Merry Christmas!

Sino-sino ba dito ang mga drummer na walang band or Serious Hobbyist?

How do you keep yourself motivated? di ba minsan parang nakakabato mag drums ng walang ka Jam?
How do you decide which cymbals,or drum sizes to buy? etc.,etc..

Share nyo sana dito, hindi kayo nag iisa!

Lone drummer din ako. I never had a band. Pa-jamming jamming lang kapag nayaya ng mga friends at officemates.

How do I keep myself motivated? I try to maintain my set as beautiful as it can be para ganahan akong palauin siya. I have an ipod nano and a Peavey amp para may kalaro ako  :-D

I read cymbals and drums reviews online para ma-excite akong bumili ulit.  Although iba yung excitement na naramdaman ko when I bought my very first quality drum set and very first Zildjian cymbals. I miss that feeling.

I guess serious hobbyist ako dahil 1988 pa ako nag-start mag-drums and up to now, I'm still in love with it even if I don't have a band.  8-)

Title: Hobbyist Thread
Post by: musicianurse28 on January 05, 2011, 01:09:52 AM
Fellow Pinoydrummers, I noticed lately when I was back reading some previous and old threads, that there are also many "Hobbyist" drummers like me. It's like we don't play for a living, we don't have three or four gigs every week, we have no permanent band nor a band manager and instead we just play-along and jam sometimes with friends who knows how to play other instruments too, and so on. I decided to create this new thread so that we could know who else is like us who plays drums just to satisfy our hobby. Playing and talking about drums is an excited feeling that I can't hide

We're also drum gears enthusiast, we also tap our legs and stomp our feet whenever we hear musics on mp3 or an fm station, we just love what we do while playing, and there's so much more to say about drumming as a hobby. I wish to know you all here and maybe soon we could meet in this year's upcoming EBs and the like.

Who else is a hobbyist? Let's all share our stories here :-)

to hobbyists: why not pursue a musical career?   :|

We've been there, I've been there, but a hectic schedule does not allow me at the moment. I try my very best to be as active as my schedule would allow but still it's not enough. I was once a Conservatory of Music student in UST way back from 2005-2009. I play music, study music, breathe music, all around me is music. But then when I started to study again and take up Nursing as my second course, all of my time in playing music was lessen until I got no choice but to limit my time in music. That is when I realized that I cannot pursue a musical career at this moment, maybe soon or sometime in a not so distant future. I believe all of us here in this forum site is dreaming of having a musical career. But as of now since I can't do anything about pursuing a music career, I'm still happy with what I do being just a hobbyist. Because for me it's like I'm still practicing my craft every now and then.

Thanks for your concern bro y2jae21 :-) Good luck to you in pursuing your musical career!

I know what a "hobby" means but I didn't know there was a term like "Hobbyist" :-D
Does my addiction to video games, collecting seasons of TV series & broken drumsticks or my fixation to bikes apply here???

I was playing video games since...
I can't remember...
But I know it was the top days of family computers, Mario 1,2,3 & contra...
I love FPS games, Hack & Slash Specifically the Call of duty series from 1st (world war time frame) to Modern Warfare & Black Ops...
Devil May Cry Series, Onimusha Series & probably the best series of them all the Metal Gear Series...
I can't remember the rest, I don't need to type it here, It's a VERY VERY long list & I consider myself old at the age of 21...

TV series, I love watching Chuck (too bad the last episode was on Nov 29 and he next is on Jan 17) and I have a complete season colection of Burn Notice, Kyle XY, Bones, Heroes &  CSI:Miami...

I teach drums in our local church... (for free :-D)
Usually they're youth members...
I also give them free drumsticks...
IF they could play what I teach them...
Slow, Clear & Consistent...

Ahhem.. :-D. Dude, were practically the same. Collecting and watching T.V. series (Especially 90's Comedy Series: Friends(Complete), CSI NY(First Season-Present), How I Met Your Mother (First Season - Present), Gary Unmarried, Two and a Half men(First Season - Present), BigBand Theory(First Season - Present) and Leverage(First Season - Preseint).

I also dont throw my broken sticks away, instead I have a separate Stick Bag for them.

I also teach youth drummers at church after services. Though I need to kick back on some video games but, a few years before, I was so in to it...

Right now, I am fond of modifying desktops/CPU's...Medio may pagka-geek ba?! hahaha

That's what I'm talking about g0d5_g1ft! My band mates are hobbyists as well since we're all busy with our duties and some are working. So whenever we're stressed out in our own errands, we find playing our own instruments as our stress reliever. Playing music is one of the unique ways to pamper yourself. So music as a hobby is one of the best ways to relax and could also give you peace of mind.

So what do you do whenever you start your hobby? We could share same interest here. I might learn something from you and from the others. :-)

Yes bro :-) Percussion major ka rin?

other hobbies or stress relievers that I have are dogs :D I got three chow chows at home that keeps me sane hahaha

Well I can say na pagdating nang araw e 'hobbyist' ang bagsak ko hehe...After ko mag PT at nagkaroon na ng stable job sa States, may balak ako na gumawa ng 'home museum' ng mga drums, yun bang yung mga drums na hindi ko pa kayang bilhin ngayon eh mabibili ko na then I'll display it in a museum-like room, and yes, everyone is FREE to jam those kits! :-D :-D

what can you say guys???

Same here. Drums is just a hobby. I started way back in 1st year high school and I still love it.
I have no band. I just play along with my MP3 player or with some of my office mates who are hobbyists in their respective musical instruments.
I continue to buy drum items and never sell anything.
JB Music, Audiophile, and Perfect Pitch are always in my itinerary whenever I'm at the mall.
I work 5 days a week but still manage to play the drums for 30 mins starting at 10pm.
Continuous learning in drumming.

Stress... Got that right!!! Ako kadalasan kapag di makatulog (or Insomnia attack) I tire myself out doing 100's on the metronome... Doing singles to quads, hands & feet... Mamayamaya lang, bibigat na katawan ko then it's time to "hit the sack"

Very fortunate na itong hobby ko at first, eh naging sideline ko. I am very lucky to do what i love while earning decent money playing gigs at bars.
As a businessman, hawak ko yun oras ko so magising man ako ng tanghali dahil sa puyat sa pagtugtog eh ok lang hehe...

Plus you get to excercise yourself by playing drums. So good hobby talaga! :-D
