Again, bang for buck.
I am thoroughly impressed with RJ and Fernandes. All companies have their lemons, but I haven't found one with these yet. Since Fernandes is "branded" I make it second. I make RJ the most under rated guitar company in the world. Great guitars. Great looks, great playability and great tone. You just have to pick out the right one - but then again you have to do that with ALL guitars.
I've had several Yamahas and they were all great. I had a Schecter Pete Townsend Tele that was awesome and it broke my heart when it got stolen. And I sold an Aria Les Paul copy with two P-90's which was one of the best LP's I ever played and still kick myself in the ass for selling it.
-
hands down, for me at least, Fernandes doesn't get as much props. I love their Monterrey and Hide guitar models. Amazing tone, amazing value and great workmanship. Light too!
-
RJ. and im guilty.
-
i'd go for yamaha n fernandes. used to have a fernandes, still have my yamaha. excellent bang for buck.
-
Yamaha all the way!! I have a Yamaha SG800s and a Yamaha Pacifica Tele. Love 'em both. I cant imagine selling 'em ever.
-
here in the states.....
C-A-R-V-I-N
...everybody wants Fender.....PRS....Gibson....and bowteek guitars....
-
i'll play...
for me it's a tie between aria and fernandes. good looks, playability and most important of all, tone. yamaha, for me, is what i'd call a "safe" instrument. kasi even their low-end products are good sounding, not as excellent as the others, pero good na in itself. as for rj, yeah, you'd have to really look for the gems in their stuff. and i don't know anything about schecter, hehe.
-
fernandes and yamaha for me
-
Yamaha's leading! :)
-
Tokai for me :P
-
choosing one from your list.. i'd say yamaha. ;)
-
In my case I feel Squier guitars made in the Chinese, Indo, Korean factories are under-rated. Quality has vastly improved, and that's why my 2006 acquisitions were Squiers. The recently issued Squier '51 has its own niche as a modder's project axe.
It bothers me that, while I have been happy making music with my MIK, MII, and MIJ strats, I hear and read from people who say their MIA strats sound dead. If the law of percentages ends up in favor of MIA, I guess I've just been lucky so far...
Essex SX strats are also bang for the buck guitars.
-
Not on the list, but for me i would say Cort, Guild, G&L, Charvel and DeArmond
-
Yep there are a lot of other under rated guitars out there. Squier has improved, but then again, I just consider them a fender since fender owns them and I consider an Epiphone a Gibson since Gibson owns them as well as Kramer - which are under rated also. Cort, Carvin, Godin, G&L and SX are all under rated also.
People are catching up with Fender and Gibson in quality and doing so at a price people can afford.
That's good.
-
all for me, but yamaha is expensive here in the ph
-
They are?? :? I got both of my Yamahas here in the forum and i got them for a really really really good deal. :D
all for me, but yamaha is expensive here in the ph

Aria's are wonderful Japan made guitars.. I would want to own one

i agree! there was one in JB park square that i reaally like. locking tuners, wilkinson trem (?), set neck. i think it's still there walang pumapansin. ganda ng tunog nun! you can really hear every nuance. i don't know if it's because of the pickups or the wood or what! kaso i don't have the money and i don't like the color. masyadong pula. :|
-
well at first i thought schecter guitars are kinda "low-end"...until i met this guy who has one and when i tested it, i was blown away!!!
and i didnt know back then that the guy from slayer plays schecters!
it was sold to him for just 150 dollars...when i checked it on the internet it costs 400...
very solid thing...i plugged it into a marshall amp and it kicked my chest pretty hard!
from clean tone to heavily distorted...its really a good second hand guitar...
-
Ditto on the Carvin. Custom shop specs for factory prices. Amazing value.
-
I would have picked Cort above everything else.
As for Carvin, they've always been just by the doorstep of the mainstream with their marketing model. And that is probably what's holding them back in terms of mass acceptance.
-
where's godin?
-
and G&L?
-
Ditto on the Carvin. Custom shop specs for factory prices. Amazing value.
Really? :-o all along my impression of Carvin is $$$$. Is it because you have to buy it from the factory?
-
Yamaha.
The stuff they had during the MIJ 60's-early 80"s period were amazing, like those red label acoustics which really made c.f. martin sweat, and their lawsuit ear stuff are just fantastic. I've never had difficulty adjusting to a yamaha in my whole guitar-lifetime, and i've played more crappy US fenders and gibsons.
Although yamaha does have quite a number of top name endorsers, I don't feel that they have been taken seriously enough. perhaps its because they are involved with such a diverse "universe" of products! speed boat engines, motorbikes, entertainment systems... oh man! It's the same "curse" that great guitars made by Suzuki (MIJ lawsuit era, like the S series, which are fantastic) and Kawai share.
The taiwan stuff is all good too, great quality and tone. its the stigma that the company cannot grow out of. Tsk tsk...

People think its crap becuase its not expensive ...their custom guitars are waaaaaaaaaaaayyy cheaper than Fender, Gibson, or any other overpriced brand of guitars out there.
-
Currently, i would say Schecter.
Kasi i have one, a schecter c-1 classic. :-D hehehe..
Seriously, it's really a bang-for-the-buck guitar. A-1 components for an affordable price. Compared to my previous ibanez (sorry nutz.. :-D ), the c-1 classic is way ahead in terms of playability and sound, not to mention the sustain....
Where could you get a neck thru guitar with SD pups, grover tuners, tonepros bridge, gold hardware, intricate neck inlays, and a gorgeous finish for under 700$? (I mean, i might not be looking hard enough...but those features at that price range are kinda rare)
-
I voted for the Aria.
Yamaha comes a 2nd too close. Yamahas are like Nissans in the depreciating world.
My first electric guitar was a cheap Yamaha RG120D.
I had no problems with its playability, neck, etc...except the its humbuckers hum.
I sold it 'cause I'm a Strat affeccionado.
-
i think i'll agree with doc rick... RJ and Fernandes are the most underrated guitars here, dito lang ako nakatagpo sa philmusic ng gumagamit ng fernandes, sa mga kilala kong gitarista, they'll go for branded, like fender, gibson, ibanez... siguro kasi karamihan ng gawa nila e copy of sorts, i like the new designs from fernandes.. sa RJ naman, quality guitars, mamimili ka lang talaga, tpos puro copy nga lang...
Arias are good too, pero konti din lang gumagamit..
i'd go for this guitars, quality for affordable prices..
-
dito sa europe Cort electric guitars... ehehehehe---
-
For me Rj. I think the company has become very good in their trade. Ganda nung mga paint nila and the sound is satisfactory, specially with its price.
-
nobody is mentioning Lumanog? wahhhh... hahaha,.... they are not underated. you get what you paid for, haha.
my vote goes to aria
-
From the list I would say Yamaha. I've not been around to play the new RJs so I don't have a clue as to how they are made nowadays. One that I think should be on the list are Godin guitars. Excellent guitars but they never seem to impress people enough.
-
ARIA
-
i recently both an ARia Guitar from some guy here in Phil music.. yun kay sir pindeho.
well panalo sya.. so id go for an aria pro

wow...ganda nun....like Joe Walsh of Eagles.....you only spend $1500 and you get a custom one.

from your list, yamaha.. a lot of people actually respect rj naman eh.. :-)
from my list, there's SX, Godin, and a lot more..
i've got an SX strat that sits happily beside my American strat (Fender).. i'm not gonna give it up..
and for a guitar that costs say at least 10 times cheaper than it's neighbor, that's something..
stock, it can blast any squier out there.. modded, it can sit happily beside my other guitars..
btw, i think it's a '57 Strat copy.. ganda naman.. only flaw is the cheap bridge and tuners.. but it's still ten time cheaper.. :-D
-
i heard Cort is a good guitar. price is good also. but mostly only afficionados are aware of it
-
I'd vote for fernandes! since mr. grecoslave introduced fernandes to his collection of guitars, i had the chance to play it and i instantly loved it :-D i was actually surprised when he told me that fernandes was not really popular among filipino guitarists... but then again, i think some people are already beginning to realize how great fernandes guitars really are... :-D

fernandes and burny are of the same company right?

That's correct.
-
I'd have to say Nowadays, Jackson.. Jackson is still my favorite brand, but i know that there is a big difference between how they used to make Jacksons in the 80's and how they make them now. But in the past and present, Jackson is still the best guitar in my opinion.
-
Yamaha and RJ
Though Yamaha is a bit overpriced here in the Philippines, in my opinion :-P
-
RJ.
Kung pangit man yung tunog, pwede mo naman i-pacustomize. At hindi ka magiging guilty sa ginawa mo. Upgrade eh. Okay rin yung Fernandes.
Yamaha? Never tried it out. Siguro maganda. I tried some of their guitars. Most of them were good.
-
Yamaha definitely. altough they are more expensive than the other guitars... but i think their tone and looks are very good. :-)
-
Under rated brands?
1. Jay Turser
2. Cort
3. Burns
4. Guild
5. Vintage
6. Patrick Eggle
7. Mosrite

...Gibson owns them as well as Kramer - which are under rated also....
I have a pre-Gibson Kramer and the new production Kramers by Gibson have nothing on the original Kramer made Kramers, JMO.
-
Yes indeed. Way back, I had a pre gibson kramer focus with 3 single coils and it was as good as strat as any around.
-
Actually, may mga matitinong guitars sa sta.mesa/lumanog area
(i recommend Benjie's)
Very affordable pa.
Ang iba dito, mga subcontractors ng RJ, so same quality at half the price! :)

RJ Guitars
Fernando Guitars (the quality of their guitars and basses has improved, checkout your nearest JB Music Store)

Under rated ones are:

-fernando
-yamaha
-fernandes
