Senyor Mar Dizon, who helped clean up my playing and corrected my bad habits during my workshop with him a few years ago.
Master Benjie "Bagets" Mendez, who I look up to, and has been very supportive to me and my band. His passion, enthusiasm and sense of musicality are infectious.
My good friend JunJun Regalado, my co-drummer during our DLSU Pops Orchestra days. I've learned a lot from him. And thanks to him, I'm able to meet his father, the great Jun Regalado.
Sir Eli San Felipe, DLSU Pops' resident conductor. He's a big part of my growth as a musician and as a person. Though he's a conductor, arranger and musical director, he's a drummer too.

my first drum teacher was carl guinto of Death By Stereo....he thought me how to pound hard on the drums haha
second was a teacher named mel miliiete of yamaha school, he plays for the metal band DEwth March during the Club Dredd Days....
now the one who's guiding me thru my drumming is no other than Mr. Anthony Dio...haha...i feel so blessed that he gave me the benefit of being his experimental student....cheers dio!!!!!you're the man!!...your drum mag collections is a big help and boost
my target for this year is to take formal lessons, if time and my work sked will permit im plannin to take also formal lessons with mr. jun regalado or mr. mar dizon........

my first drumbuddy ever was Rober dela Cruz of skychurch and formerly of queso. sa kanya ko nakuha yung first drumkit ko. 13-14 years ago. premiere na kulay puti, got it from him for 2k. then nung pareho na kaming may drumkit, dumadalaw pa siya dito sa amin tapos magddrums lang kami or mamamaril ng pellet gun sa mga dumadaan sa tapat ng bahay namin (hey, we were just kids back then, siguro mga 13 - 14 years old pa lang kami nun).
he was already well-known as the monster kid drummer of skychurch. medyo nagka-iba kami ng landas since then. medyo napunta ako sa funk/rock kasi nalula ako sa mga ginagawa niya eh. i remember pag may drum competition sa school namin, hindi ako sumasali pag kasali si robert kasi hindi ako nananalo sa kanya eh (until now).
and of course, Jun Regalado.
ang yabang ko nung bata ako akala ko di ko kailangan ng drum teacher. but as i got older lumiit yung ego ko. i realized banban ako. last year, february, i enrolled for 10 sessions kay sir Jun. and hindi ko maexplain. mga April tapos na ako sa 10 sessions ko sa kanya, pero hanggang ngayon damang-dama ko pa rin yung mga natutunan ko. ang galing magturo ni sir. kung magkaka-time ako ulit, babalik ulit ako for 10 more lessons. sulit na sulit ang byahe galing dito sa QC hanggang Paranaque.

Thanks for the kind words, JP! Thank you also for encouraging me to seriously pursue drum teaching, though right now I'm not so sure if I can really commit on it because of my band's plans. I'll definitely do it on the side, but not yet on a regular basis.
Studying with Mang Jun or Senyor Mar will be great! I suggest that you start first with Mang Jun, who can help strengthen your foundations more. Then, if you want to dig deeper into the more artistic side of drumming, Mar Dizon is the man.

you're welcome bro, right now im finished with the first homework you gave me hahaha, so im now ready for a new one hehehe...cheers dio...
well the lessons for mar and mang jun is on my target but i just need to find the months that will fit the sked......its a good thing that now my assistant bea backs me up and learned the ropes here in our drum dept. already..
i forgot to mention, robert da la cruz is the one who tought me to play double pedal...although i cannot do and im not sure if i'll be able to do the speed he is doing for his double pedal attack..haha..cheers

hmmm, sa ngayon wala pa ako formal lessons except drumvids from dave weckl and neil peart.
pero i've been inspired and influenced by the ff. people:
Jun-jun Regalado
Wendell of Barbie's Cradle
Josh Freese
Sir Anthony Dio
Jpmb
Peeves
dictatone
Ace Aguilar (i dunno if he's here yet - last time i heard from him was asa 8 inches sya)
Yan muna, di ko maalala iba eh. I'm looking forward to having drum lessons with mang jun sr. and sir mar dizon if ever nagkabreak kami sa manila. right now kasi it's impossible to have lessons when you're miles away. Wala kasi masyadong matinong drum teacher dito. I'm too noob for that.
-
Basta ma'am thank you!

@daemonite -- ??? guide you? MEE? not worthy pre, influence maybe but i suck as a teacher. salamat na lang sa pagmention :-D

my greatest teacher would be my brother. he plays bass though but he taught me how hard work, disipline, and passion for music in general. right now im taking lesons with Jay in UP music. Great teacher, good lessons with him. Of course Jpmb, everytime im in yupangco he teaches me some linear paterns or helps me tune my snare. Everytime i get home i feel inspired to sit behind the kit and trip out! :-)

Nobody....I wasn't lucky to be guided by anyone personally.

Ok bro nyahahaha! Pero kaya ko nasabi sa inyo yun ni jpmb and the others na nakita ko nung eb, kasi pag pinapanood ko yung video, mas nai-inspire ako magstrive further. Buti na lang di ako pumalo nun. Nyahahha.
teka, lasing na ba ako, at nakita ko pangalan ko daemonite, hahaha...naku bro salamat but are you sure with that?hehehe...di bale pag balik mo inspirational talk tayo about beer and drums..cheers
yan ang gusto ko! Inspirational talk with beer! I'm still learning all of it though :-( hirap ng malayo ang drumset sa bahay eh. asa studio namin yung kit ko. are you trading nga pala skins? kasi mali nabili sa akin, 10" tsaka 14" na evans g2. ang kelangan ko pala 12 13 and 16

Mahusay itong si Harald Huyssen! I remember way back when I was having my lessons with Mar Dizon. Siya yung student na nauuna sa akin before my sked. Habang nagle-lessons siya with Mar, nanonood ako sa isang tabi, while waiting for my turn. Mar told me that Harald is very good with rudiments, and during that session, he was learning how to apply these rudiments around the drumkit. And after that lesson, may naka-sked naman daw siya na lessons with Jun Regalado! Masipag!!
Before Harald joined Shamrock, I sessioned with that band for about a month. Their keyboardist Henry is a good friend of mine, and a colleague from DLSU Pops. Recently, nagkasabay kami sa isang gig. Nagkwento si Henry about Harald. Sabi nya super sipag daw, and if I remember it right, he studied daw at Berklee. I never had the chance to have a chat with Harald yet, but I would love to someday.

si junboy leonor naman guided me during studio recordings,he produced our album together w/ francis reyes and ito rapadas.

OT: hey! we used to play together in the early 90s before he joined parliament syndicate!
even then he was very good, low key lang pero maraming magic sa kamay yun!
he also has a roland jx3p with programmer so that ties in with our vintage synth thread nicely :)
member ba sya ng forums?
-
hi chuck. mmm i dont know if B Go is a forumite but from what i hear wala na sya sa music scene. that was a long time ago though. tama, low key lang si B Go pero super galing. mar dizon took his place after he left parliament. wonder how he is now :)
-
Aww man, I wish I really had the time to practice some more. 1-2 hrs a week is not enough. Minsan wala pa.
-
rolf wam fjell (hillsong united). nakikita ko sa mga workshops pati projects ng hillsong team. ang ganda ng transition niya from malakas tapos pahina nang pahina or vice-versa. :-D

Yeah tama... we should all realize na it is not always on our own strength that we'll develop ourselves. Ganun talaga pag bata.. banat lang. Then we mature enough to say "I need help." When I reached that point yrs ago, ang tumulong sa akin ay si Senyor Jun Regalado. I knew I learned stuff from him during those sessions but I never realized na talagang lalabas naturally. Even my bandmates told me the improvement was really noticeable after my lessons. Pero of course, 1st influence ko, ate ko. She showed me how to play the drums! :-D
