unfortunately, those are actually some of the cheapest new tubes in the market.

that's mean, dude...actually sovtek manufactures electro harmonix tubes as well...they're all under the company new sensor which is owned by mike matthews...
among the 3...i've tried the ruby & the sovtek...
the Ruby 6L6GCMSTR has really great bass response
the sovtek is ok for normal tube amp repair or as an extra set in case your current ones blow out...y'know...that kinda thing...

No love for JJs?

if you want dramatic effect....change your speakers.... tubes are just a very minute piec of the ginourmous iceberg to improve tone.

well thats what happens ( base on my experience ) in purchasing one whole MATCHED QUAD set and realized that instead of improving sound it worsen it. They are used by amp mfgrs as stock tubes because they are the cheapest and reliable(meaning...heavy duty...and your amp still works even if ilang years na nakaplug sa amp sa storage).....but tone wise....your better off with other brands.
No love for JJs?
I love their 6L6GCs and EL84s.....one of the best tubes out there.
-
yup, that's what they said. kaso...
tumingin na ko:
eminence speaker, The Governor: ~90 USD
shipping: ~176 USD :-o :-o :-o wtf?!!!
hindi siya sulit. almost double the item cost yung shipping. sa tubes na lang ako titingin. in your experience, which 6L6 gives the biggest bass response?

jj's are ok in the v2 position or basta hindi v1 at phase inverter...although they have that brit flavor, they're pretty grainy sounding...and it can sound tiring after awhile...
those are for preamps of course...
as for power tubes, from my experience with them (GT 6L6S) they have a nice "soft" sound but you gotta rebias your amp as it draws less current than normal power tubes...but either way they'll sound nice and soft

Mark have you ever tried the latest JJ preamps...I have one ECC83Os and I have it in my Legacy at V1....it made both of my channels cleand and dirty louder and clearer...like the amp bot boosted...compared to a stock EX12ax7 or even Shunguangs 9th gens.

Wait, I believe bugoy is gonna use it on a Peavey Valveking. He wants a bluesy tone when cranked. While I haven't tried a Valveking yet, I do believe he wants a more Blackface Fender-y tone. I don't know how the Valveking is voiced so can anyone help?
-
with the right tubes (and speaker) it can be done...the GT7025's are based off of the old 7025's used in blackface amps (i think) htey have really good top end response. another name (and brand since gt's merely select & relabel) would be the Ei 12ax7EG. I have it in my Laney now...
