Fender all the way. The stratocaster can give you everything you need...You have the beauty of single coils and you can even achieve humbucking tones (and even better) with the right set-up, plus these guitars lasts a lifetime with proper maintenance. :-)
Of course this is just me.(I know gibson fans will immediately "flame my claim" hehe.)

Fender- great guitars can play from Bach to Rock superb clean tone, good quality, very reliable with  maintenace this baby can go all the way

Dean- looks good however quality is B instead of A for me...

Gibson- same as Fenders.

Schecter- Good guitars nice for rock music...

Washburn- great guitars and good quality

Yamaha-not really a fan of Yamaha's.........

PRS (Paul Reed Smith)- Quality guitars, Superb Design, Great Tone can also play from classical to rock

well those are only my opinions...... :-D :-D :-D

^^you might want to add every other brand in the universe pal.

kung durability i'd go with fender.

guitar got smashed? easy.. just buy a new neck/body/whatever and you're up and running again

..didn't really answer the question huh?  :|

the "new" price for PRS and Gibson are almost level.

probably the reason why more people have gibsons instead of PRS is because PRS is relatively new and all the "older" PRS guitars that are limited in number have been scooped up for investment value.

so therefore, most of the used stuff you see are still priced as close to new anyway.

that said, most hi-end, hi-value guitars keep their value.

reason why PRS is priced at close to 200K in the philippines is cuz the dealer selling them probably didn't buy a lot of guitars and therefore, no bulk discount? maybe im guessing here. :D

go to the US and the choice is probably easier as these guitars are priced close enough.

True, Image is everything.

LIke using an LP to record, but kicking an ibanez on stage.

Why, because its a metal-mans axe. hahaha

Durability is not an issue since almost all solid bodied guitar are sturdy. (magkatunog ah, durability=sturdy)

sa versatility naman. Choose with the most number of pickup configurations. Pinaka maraming  configuration nakita ko ang 2 humbucker with coil tapping switch.

Three humbucker guitar, with three 3-way toggles. Series-Split-Parallel and 5 way switching and Rotary blend knob, with fishman powerbridge piezo and roland gk divided pickup! ayos!

Now THATS versatility.
