Title: My nut is clicking
Post by: vaisteen2003 on May 02, 2007, 05:53:33 PM
Hi guys, i dont know whats happening but my guitar has a really unstable tuning. even the smallest bend can and will make the guitar out of tune. One observation though, when i tune, i hear a clicking sound from the nut. BTW my nut is BONE. (damn that didnt sound right) i mean my guitar nut is made of bone co arie H.

thanks

The strings are probably binding to the nut.

Lightly sand down the ridges with fine grit sandpaper and youll be fine.

hmm. thats gotta be a really thin and small sand paper. how about putting oil or led like what i have read in some threads? what does that do?

nagcliclick? baka nagbabanggaan kaya nagcliclick?? hehehe! loko lang :)

i had a similar problem before. i replaced my guitar nut with a GraphTech. no more problems :) try mo muna tong mga to before mo pag-isipang palitan: buy a Big Bends Nut Sauce Lubricant; mark the string slots using a pencil (make sure the lead stays inside the sring slots, turo ni skunkyfunk) or try to sand it a bit by using fine sand paper :)

Lube it up with lip gloss or petroleum jelly.  Ganon ginagawa ko ok naman.

This also happens to me on the 3rd string, usual workaround is the lead lubrication. Doesn't look good though if the nut is white.

Plus one on the Graphtechs and the Nut Sauce.  If you can't find Nut Sauce try any graphite impregnated grease.  That's basically what's in Nut Sauce.  If one or all of these quick fixes makes your nut smooth (that still doesn't sound right  :-o) but you still drop out of tune after every string bend, I suggest replacing your stock tuning machine with lockers.  Sting slippage and slack at the tuning pegs might be causing the drop-outs in tuning.

actually ive been thinking of replacing my tuners with locking tuners, pero if i remember vividly it wasnt like that till after i changed my nut to bone (hmm that didnt sound right but you know what i mean). anyway ill all suggestions. Lip gloss is more logical for me and readily available.

thanks to all who responded.
