Forumites!
I don't know much about computers, I just know how to use them.
Recently I decided to install AVG on my computer. My former antivirus (and still using) is PC cillin.
Then I noticed my computer is going nuts. Sudden pop-ups from both anti-virus. And my computer's BIOS is changed without my knowledge. And now my computer is booting from a floppy drive.
I fix my bios and then after a few days my BIOS is changed again. Hu hu hu!!!
-
theoretically you should be able to but I won't advise it. it might screw your computer. if it's an antivirus and spyware software you can definitely can but antivirus to antivirus I wouldn't if I were you. :-D
-
GINAWA MO UN?!!
MAGLOLOKO TALAGA COMPUTER MO, KASI ANG MGA ANTIVIRUS RESIDENT NA SA COMPUTER MO YAN. DURING INSTALLATION WLA BANG LUMABAS NA WARNING SA WINDOWS?
DAPT I-DELETE MO MUNA ANG ISA, BAGO IN-STALL UNG BAGO MONG ANTI-VIRUS.
TRY MO I-DELETE SA CONTROL PANEL UNG ISA. THAT SHOULD FIX IT.
-
wala naman ako nakikita prob aside sa madadagdagan load ng cpu mo kasi 2 programs are running sa background medyo babagal ng konti. tanggalin mo na lang yung pc cillian AVG is good enough and napaka user friendly been using it 3 yrs na yata ? walang kaarte arte straight to the point ang AVG ehehe

+ 1000 :-D

prone to conflicts yung analyses ng dalawang anti-virus packages pag pinagsabay mo. depending on the software, one of them will probably block the other from functioning properly, anyway. so there's really no point in running two simultaneously. just pick the one you trust the most.
-
hindi naman talaga dapat gumagamit ng dalawang anti-virus.. nabasa ko yan sa site ng norton anti-virus eh... its either i treat ng isang anti-virus mo yung another anti-virus mo as virus(gulo :-D)
reformat ka na sir...
-
-
Normally nagkakaroon ng conflict kapag 2 antivirus sa isang PC lalo na kung gamit mo yung PC-cillin, dapat walang ibang AV na nakainstall sa PC or else you have to uninstall them both (even clear the registry) then install which ever you like best.
-
Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. It depends specially if they both have firewalls. And if the IRQ got some conflicts. Pinoy tayo so we don't need two anti-virus. If your having a hard time removing a program try to download Windows Installer Clean up Utility. Sa support.microsoft.com. Para din syang add/remove programs but not dependent on MSI
-
2 anti-virus program is not recomended in a pc...It would have a great conflict...good luck. :-D
-
i just go to this website
http://www.pandasoftware.com (http://www.pandasoftware.com)
tapos may free scanning sya, since free, nde nya buburahin, pero sasabihin niya location nung virus..

Definitely not recommended, but you can with a few caveats. Since my DAW is connected to the net, I have to use relatively lightweight, but very well recommended scanners; that means no Norton and McAfee which install a lot of unneeded gunk. I've used Antivir, AVG, and now I'm using AOL's free Active Virus Shield. I also downloaded Clamwin for windows, an opensource scanner, but I removed it from my startup services so it's now an "on-call" scanner - parang 2nd opinion. Both update their virus data but only AOL is working with TSR file scanning to capture potential hijacks. An example are those viruses that attach themselves to usb sticks and mp3 players, esp. iPods.
Most AV installers request that you uninstall an existing AV software if you will install a different one. That practical reason is because they include TSR file scanning, which does take up resources, but often works in the background. By disabling their startup script in msconfig, you can have as many AV progs as you want, but only elect to have one active at any given time, as I have done above.
-
The AOL free anti-virus is based on kapersky right? Kit, since you've tried AVG, which of the 2 do you prefer? pros and cons?

AOL seems lighter on resources than AVG. My basis is with my DAW. If I get crackles during playback with the AV active, then that prog gets uninstalled. NOD32 was among the best but resource intensive kaya it had to go. Antivir didn't use up a lot but there were some minor worms that were not detected; same with AVG. So far, AOL has held up well but then again, I also have a rootkit scanner and Clamwin on the side, just in case. I also check my services every so often for unusual TSR's.

nde nga maganda AVG eh..
marami siyang nde pinapakita.. (syempre free eh)
-
Kanya-kanyang perspective lang yan.
AVG is best for my PC.
For my Mac, none. I don't need antivirus.
-
AVG & Avast does the job.. Don't Install Both.. :-D
-

well i dont think so..
and, aside from Mac, kung ayaw niyo mavirus talaga.. Linux is the answer.. ahahaha
-
avast ang gamit ko ngayon, no problems so far..
-
-
mabagal kasi NAV eh.. lakas kumain nang memory...

just to clarify, malware and spyware by themselves aren't viruses. wala talaga sa functions ng AVG Free yun.
before you trash AVG, ayusin mo muna yung comparison mo. Panda Antivirus is a commercial software package.
and besides, even if AVG Free can't detect adware and spyware, that's what Ad-Aware and Spybot are for.
anyway, kanya kanya talagang preferences to. i prefer to stick with freeware until the time i can afford something better.
-
also try kaspersky, pretty good. dami syang nahuhuli sa pc ko compared sa dating avg or avast it wont let you install a second anti-virus though, jealous type :)
-
mabagal kasi NAV eh.. lakas kumain nang memory...
True...Pero kung mataas naman ang memory na nakalagay sa pc...it won't be a problem. :-)
Tip: kung marami nka active sa system tray na programs, lakas din kumain ng memory yun, so better to turn off some programs from the system tray, by doing that, you can do it sa "msconfig".
-
Well, if you want a "strict" anti-virus software, Kapersky is the way to go. Hehehehe.
Part of the appeal of AVG is the very small footprint. Panalo when it comes to resource-starved systems.

kanya kanyang preference..
-
Ok, ok... let's not turn this into a "my AV is better than your AV", ok? Use what works for you. FYI, I tried out panda but it didn't make the grade because my DAW complained so it's a case-to-case basis. Just use what works, ppl!
-
don't worry.. ahehe..
-
As far as I'm concerned, the point of contention is not which is better... but the fairness of the comparison, sir Kit.
Ok, danj0... I'll try to make this easier to understand.
Duh, Grisoft sells software. Everyone who downloads AVG Free knows that. They just happen to put out some freeware to entice customers with greater demands. Panda has nothing that competes with that. If I'm wrong, please give the URL of the free thing you're talking about.
Now, as for Pandasoftware Antivirus (http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/antivirus/?sitepanda=particulares), the AVG counterpart I was hinting on was AVG Internet Security (http://www2.grisoft.com/doc/products-avg-internet-security/us/crp/2). So, if you want to compare, use these two packages.
On another note, I use AVG, Ad-Aware (the new version looks cool) and Spybot myself. And I'm happy with them. The only attack that got through me in several years of use was the Lipa thing on IE. And that caught just about all protection software by surprise.
Though admittedly, I'd probably try this other anti-spyware whose name escapes me at the moment once I can afford to pay for it. Or maybe pay for Ad-Aware for real-time protection if it proves to be a good product.
All-in-one software packages are great assuming they can handle all its functionality really effectively. Such isn't always the case, in my experience (not with Panda). Anyways, it's great that you can actually afford to pay for that.
Finally, if I was the only one who insinuated that you were putting down AVG Free, I'd apologize. Fortunately for me, that is not the case. Phrases like, nde nga maganda AVG eh.. kinda gave us that impression. Fine, I'll take note if you're the one saying that. hahahaha.

ok.

sir.bkit ung sa akin AVG at symantec pro d nmn nag-aaway...?tnx sa inu kc nagka-idea ako..4 you sir KitC,cno ang dapat i-remove?

Norton... must go... too much installed crapware. But given a choice... Norton talaga.
-
The trick with norton naman is add more memory eh. :-D
-
ahehe..
libre din, at ok din
uh, kaya ko sinabing nde maganda AVG, kasi marami siyang nde nadedetect, kahit samahan mo pa nang Ad-Aware, at spybot..
-
yes, you've already said that like three times. we've noted your experience :-D

Hehehe. Walang slowdown yan... until you start a big application where speed matters.
-
ayus ah.. hehehehe... easy lang peeps. :-D
The question was DAW specific that's why I asked KitC.
Thanks Kit

You're welcome, glassjaw_jc.

Only Uniblue and not panda software, I didn't mention anything about panda software. I didn't use paypal for it. Have some relatives from the US visiting every year, so my uncle bought it for me, I don't use credit cards specialy online.
God bless. :-)
-
Sorry, I got you mixed up with another poster.
Glad to hear you got the Uniblue. Would be nice if they had a freebie but I guess the trial version will do.
Yeah, I hate giving out card numbers over the net too.
Peace!
