I use auxiliary hats... top and bottom hats are of different generations so they sound a bit trashier than the conventional hihat... using Tama's xhat attachment... I use it like how benny greb uses it... and sometimes when using double pedals... and when I'm asked to do a solo ehehehe...

here's benny greb

Hey JP!  You can also check this thread for further reference...

And yes, the Tama closed-hat attachment hardware is available locally.  I'm planning to buy one someday, for my future double-hat adventures.

2ndary hi hats usually come in 2 variations:

1. fixed setting (i.e. sonor x-hat around 2.5k pesos)...either fully closed or semi-closed

2. remote hi hats (i.e. pearl rh2000 around 15k)... as the name implies, it is remote controlled, it usually comes with a 3meter cable, common issues of concerns with such types are its responsiveness (specially the DW5000 remote variation, may konting delay daw despite adjustments), the elims is by far the most responsive and customisable there is out there at the moment.

3. a more recent addition to the remote hi hat variation is DW's 9500 universal remote hihat (around 15-20k)...but i find that its more of an extension or geared towards people with concerned with the position of their main hats rather than a secondary hat.

catalogue says: Using DW’s Universal Linkage Assembly, the 9550 achieves lightning-fast response and a smooth, effortless feel. It can be placed on either side of the kit, making it a multi-position primary hi-hat or a versatile auxiliary hi-hat for secondary hat sounds and effects cymbals.

la lang, just sharing

I have an aux hihat located under my ride cymbal at my right.  I used the Tama xhat attachment but I modify it a little bit.  The top hat clutch has a lever to switch either closed or open position.  Closed position is ok.  The open position doesn't really sound an open hat because the weight of the top hat just rest on the bottom hat.  What I did is put a spring in between the two cymbals so when I switch the lever to the open hihat position, the spring will push the top cymbal to produce on open hihat sound.  :-D
