Title: Drum and Drummer 4! Aug 16 Tue 2011 Saguijo! :D
Post by: zach lucero on October 29, 2007, 11:17:22 PM: Was toying with this idea on my way home an hour ago and called Jim Ayson about involving philmusic with this. I was thinking of the possibility of having a solid 100% hardcore drum and percussion show before summer 08. This would be an EB/Drum Festival of sorts wherein the showcase would be more on the drum enthusiast. There are alot out there who are not members of this forum who restores, builds, customizes, and collects drums of all shapes and sizes, it would be a thrill to see awsome vintage snares/kits/percs all in the flesh and I think it would be a treat to see all of these in one place in a nice function room in a nice hotel or mall. We can also invite drum groups like brigada, escola de samba de manila, pinikpikan, various drumline schools etc. we can have clinicians, jazz, progressive, even electronica drummers in the line up. Of course the various suppliers of drums across the city are all invited to showcase their wares, even the independent suppliers like Vinci.
Think of those Auto Shows held in mega mall, but instead of showcasing cars
well showcase drums. :D we can even have awards at the end of the day via voting, like vintage snaredrum of the year, best restored kit, custom drum kit of the year, etc.... :D and the most important thing, nothing beats (pun intended) gathering and meeting new people who share a passion for this art of drumming
If ya think this is worthwhile to do then put on yer thinking caps and share your ideas, then lets meet up and do something about it. :D

i have a great appreciation for percussive arts, not just limited to the drumkit. it's always a plus to my day hearing/seeing someone do an awesome beat or fill or whatever just by hitting things. :P

the only obstacle i can think of right now would be promoting something like this, the costs, and choosing an area where it would be most convenient for the majority of the people.

World Trade Center or SM Megamall Mega Trade Hall... hehehehe

but seriously... Hotel Ballrooms might cost a lot. Village clubhouses or Function rooms of clubs, like Club Filipino, QC Sports Club, Celebrity Sports, etc. may be a bit more feasible.

If Jim & Philmusic would be able to get an ex-deal, the display lobbies or entertainment centers of establishments like, V-Mall, Tiendesitas, Mall of Asia, Megamall Activity Center, etc. would be perfect venues. Eastwood would also be great if the weather permits...

yeah, Tiendesitas is indeed a good venue. parking is easy there too. it's also like a mid-point for the southerners and northerners.

I think Tiendesitas as a venue would be more affordable than Megatrade. It has great access and parking space as well. :wink:

so we could divert other funds to something that has the same importance as the venue, like talent fee for the presentors... :lol: :lol: :lol:

but if youre goin to be particular with acoustics for a large event, i think its goin to be pretty difficult. to get a better feel of the desired size, i think forecasting the number of particpants (both private and traders) should be considered. kasi baka mamaya mashado malaki yung venue tapos, iilan lang mag exhibit. as far as im aware, there are only a few companies involved in phils drum retail industry, so this is worth lookin into. thinking big and possible way around this is to not limit it to a percussion summit but to also involve other musical instruments. in addition, you may want to tap other industries that have similar or the same market as the music retail industry so they can join in rin.

off the top of my head, as a pilot event, i think one of the feasible ones are clean & covered basketball courts or gymnasiums. then organise the floor plan based on your forecasted number of private and trading participants.

ideally, trading particpants should be organised according to their designated stalls, use clean and professional stalls that are avail for rent (wag sana yung changge/make-shift types na may Coca-Cola or Royal True Orange painting na ginagamit tuwing college fair for kissing booths etc)

each private participant on the other hand could be allotted a certain amount of area without the need for stalls, magdala na lang sila ng presentable tables and chairs nila. tapos siguro may stage for masterclasses, performance etc.

overall logistics will definitely play an important role so how about sa fees? ano diskarte? for both private and trading exhibitors and the general public. and be mindful about this aspect.

heheh as expected since its the holiday season,, bnuhos ng marketing ang funds para sa mga promos kaya ayun hirap tlga kumuha ng deal with sponsors,, pero maganda tlga nyan start this coming year, im sure mpapagbigyan na nila tau hehehe

Also our music stores like JB, Audiophile, Lyric and Yupangco can help us out with this kind of event thru their connection with other brands like DW, Sabian, Pearl, Remo, Pro-Mark etc. the more sponsors the less you have to bring out cash. yung proposal nalang siguro dapat maganda. Basta both sponsors and organizers share the same goal for the project I think it will be a success. Maybe we can invite someone for a masterclass like Bill Bruford, Dave Weckl, Horacio "el negro", or any great drummer as a guest....

In this case, the proposed Drum Show is envisioned to be a huge event. So we need to deal with sponsorships, logistics, finance, manpower, and all those important details. And we also need to have certain individuals out there who are willing to dedicate themselves in making this vision into reality.

In my case, I can't devote myself right now into organizing, because I need to prioritize my own band and career. Same goes to many more out there who have their own priorities.

It's not that we don't want this to happen... But if some of you guys do want it to really happen, I challenge you to make it happen. Take actions. Don't just wait or whine.

Again, I'm playing the devil's advocate... Peace. :-)

Nung East Leg ng Mapex Drumfest sa Club Dredd 2 years back, nag-drum jam Si Senor Mar Dizon and J-hoon of Kjwan tapos mayroon 2 other drummers na nag-jam din. Forunner Music(Mapex drums and BP snares) din ang sponsors nun. Special thanks to Sir JP Buduan, the event wouldn't be possible lalo na yung drum jam. Basta ba hinde mahiyain tayo sa event, drum battle it is na yan.... :lol:

11:15-11:45 Mar Dizon, as per yesterday he will be trying to invite guests to jam with on his set, otherwise, solo sya all the way!

11:45- to SAWA! Brigada! if you havent seen em..man..you gotta! and be blown away!

this folks is anything but a formal question and answer clinic. well not get into technicals, of hows this and hows that...marami ng ganun... here lets just hang and soundtrip! :) and that is another way of learning. :)

LRT2 to cubao then MRT to buendia, pag baba ng MRT buendia station sa may shell may mga sakayan ng jeep pa washington st. sakay kayo dun then baba kayo sa kanto ng chino roces/pasong tamo sa petron and then sakay kayo ng jeep pa pasong tamo.. ilang kanto lang sa kanan nyo ang bagtikan st. pede ding sabihin nyo lang sa driver ng jeep na ibaba kayo ng bagtikan, then lakad na lang 1st kanto sa left is guijo st. andun na yun!!!

then si sir bagets!! ambilis ng kamay... na try ko din yung dw 5k nya na dobol peds habang nag liligpit ang mga taga lyric.
