My band has been playing gigs for almost twice a month for about a year now. I've been thinking whether I should get a decent guitar. I'm currently using a China-made SG copy(Rockstar guitars from LAZER) and I'm thinking of getting an RJ guitar, either a tele or an LP(or another SG. That's how much I love SGs.) copy. I'm into other hobbies like RF Online(Accretia-Nexus here) and airsofting, both of which are very heavy on the wallet, so it's been really hard for me to decide. Is it time for me to buy a new guitar, or should I stick to my current axe?
Also, I've been a member of PhilMusic for quite sometime now, but I still don't know what GAS means. Anyone want to tell me what it means? I sorta have guesses about what it means, but I'm not sure.XD
-
A peice of advice pare, try to prioritize what you really want. I've been playing airsoft too for almost 2 years na then I finally realized that I have to give up airsoft just to fund my guitar hobby. With regards if you'll replace your guitar, actually that we don't know as long as it sounds like you wanted it to sound and stick with it. GAS I think is short for GASTOS (wild idea).
-
If I order the things out, I'd put gigging first, then RF, with airsoft last. I guess I'd have to stop playing muna. I think GAS stands for Guitar Acquisition Syndrome, but then again, it's just a wild guess.XD
-
..i thinks that's it. But then some people are 'GAS'-ing for pedals.. :-D
-
yep scooby was right try to prioritize things, i give up my skate boarding and pc lan games to have decnet gears...
-
well for me... it's ALWAYS time to buy a new guitar! :-D
and that folks is why i have no money in my bank account.
P.S. G.A.S.: GEAR ACQUSITION SYNDROME
-
Oh, so that's what it is. I was close.XD
Anyways, thanks for the advice guys. Now, I have to reexamine my self.XD
-
Basta may pondo.. its new guitar day!
-
I'd say buy if you think you really need to.
Try to ask yourself these simple questions:
1. Does my current guitar affect my playing in any way?
2. Does it fail to give me the sound that I'm going for?
3. What am I hoping to achieve by buying a new one? Sound? Ease of use? Sex appeal?
4. Do I have money to spare?
-
1. No naman, it's just that, medyo conscious ako at cheap brand ang guitar ko.
2. Again no, pero I've tried the RJ Les Paul. Ang ganda ng tunog nya.
3. Sound, a bit, yes. Ease of use, yes, kasi sira na yung toggle switch ng SG ko. Sex appeal? What guitar can ooze more sex appeal than an SG? XD
4. Yup. I just got my part from my dad's pension. He passed away kasi last year.
-

OT: you're kiddin' right?... nuthin oozes more sex appeal that a gibson les paul standard... makalaglag pantie yun pho sho! :-D
I find SG's to produce more of an evil lets rock attitude. which is also pretty damn cool.

1. If ever you're getting one, then get a relatively expensive brand (but make sure that it sounds/feels good to you). That way, you won't be tempted to switch guitars again anytime soon.
On the other hand, nothing beats making a cheap beat-up guitar sound great using your skills alone.
2. I see.
3. Well, if it's broken, you can still have it fixed. As for the sex appeal, well that's relative.
4. In the end, it's your money anyway so do what you want with it. If you think getting a new guitar will help you become a better guitarist (even if it's just a little confidence boost), then go for it.
As for your dad, I'm extending my condolences even if it's been one year already. :-)

So this is what it means...
akala ko all along GAS meant: "Gadget Attack Syndrome"!
-
akala ko yung GAS ay, Going around,Shopping....
targits nalang unahin mo pre..mas tatagal pa yun..
-
dude! same lang tayo ng hobbies, RF airsoft and guitara.. plus dota pa ako and other pc lan games..
though tama sila na think what you really want first.. i gave up airsoft na JUST to focus sa guitar hobby.. plus lang ung cash wen i sold my gun.
if u still want to play rf, why not play on offline server like rf-blitz? its free and lots of people are playing there.
as for the guitar, kung ok pa sayo tunog why change? but if you really want to, id suggest invest on an LP.. i prefer japan-made if i have the budget. :-D
-
Well, the more you understand, the more you learn, the more you search for that guitar...
I once was happy with my guitar and didn't know difference in tone, pup selection, type of pickups, etc. dati as long as it's a guitar and i could play on it, I was happy...
after philmusic, it all went downhill hahaha GAS GAS GAS na...
but seriously, RJ guitars are good guitars. ok yan bro. If your budget allows for something better, then go for it and choose wisely.
Tama sila, just look at your priorities. If one favors airsoft more, that's his passion and there's nothing wrong with that kahit pa bumili sya ng 100k worth na baril as long as happy diba? Same with your decision to get a guitar. will you be happy once you find your tone?
I recently just ordered a guitar. I could've spent my money on a macbook, or bigtime car upgrades, or a new phone, or shopping spree... but there's just something about the guitar that lures me into getting one regardless of the price tag on it... It was time for me to buy one not because I needed one that's branded or whatever. I was just after that tone and at the same time, the great feeling of owning my dream guitar diba?
things to ponder on lang. good luck!

kung regular kayo siguro tumutugtog ok na rin kung may pangbackup ka. :-)

It is always time to buy a new guitar.
Seriously, you must be able to differentiate "needs" and "wants". You might want to have the most expensive and cutting edge axe out there, but do you really need it?
Let your ears decide for you.

Nasayo yan bro. Practicality-wise, isipin mo muna if you can still do without it, or if it will improve your the quality of your life. :D If practicality is a non-issue (money to spare) then i dont think there is a wrong time to buy a guitar, or any gear for that matter. If it makes you happy, what the heck right? life is short. Just my two cents.

That goes for pedals as well. If you can't even hear the difference between a cheap distortion pedal and its boutique counter part, then maybe it's not yet time for you to spend on the boutique.
