Fernando Snare Drum - Installation Problem
« on: October 19, 2008, 07:35:10 PM »
Hi,

At isa pa, ang hirap itono dahil nagtutunog tom-tom yung snare. May tips ba kayo?

Is this the lubog you're referring to? It's called a snare bed. It's for allowing the snare wires to have closer contact to the resonant head, thereby reducing sympathetic buzz and all that crud.

As for tuning problems - do you have a good snare head? I suppose you could get away with stock resonants but a stock batter head will almost always sound bad. For that ultra-crispy sound (which I assumed as high-pitched with lots of CRACK), you might want to tune the batter head medium-tight to tight. :-D

wow! thanks for the info!  :-D galing!

So naisip ko na parang misplaced ata or sira yung buong shell.

Thanks for the tip chong!

bro, yung Trax na drumhead mo sa bottom pang snare side ba talaga? baka eto din problema, it might be too thick, kaya din siguro nagtutunog tomtom. Baka makapal sya kaya hindi masyado tumutunog yung snarewire mo. I suggest try mo magpalit nang skins. Madami akong kilala who uses Fernando snares na ang gaganda nang tunog, right drumheads and tuning lang...and sa akin mahigpit ko din usually tino-tono yung batter head para makuha yung crispy sound nang snare...hope this helps... :-)

I've tried using this one sa snare ko before. Nahirapan ako itune ng maayos and higpitan...  Medyo na deform yung top hoop and naputol yung 1 swivel nut ko.

Siguro para mapaganda po... ok ang remo ambassador or evans j1 as head and remo ambassador or hazy or evans hazy 300 sa snare side. Plus 42 strands snare wire. Medyo magastos lang po. Pero sulit.  :-D

Hahahah. In an attempt to keep costs low, I also tried a Trak stock drumhead as a resonant. The whole drum sounded muffled and erm.. "boxy". It was like the drum couldn't resonate freely. Like these guys said, it might be too thick. Snare-side resonant heads should be REALLY thin.

So yeah, get something like a Remo Snareside or an Evans Hazy. Alternatively, you could opt for a PDP Snareside head at any Lyric store - it's really cheap at 160 pesos and it does better than stock Fernandos - but of course, the Remo/Evans will still sound better. :-D
