change the cables... ( all interconnecting cables ) if symptoms persist, consult m-audio.

Try updating your video card drivers. Check your IRQ for conflicts with the soundcard and video card. Windows will not report a driver conflict, but neither the soundcard or video card should be sharing an IRQ.

To see the IRQ, open Device Manager (right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button), View > Resources by type, the expand the IRQ tree by clicking on the "+". Video and soundcard should NOT have the same IRQ.

If sound shares with video, uninstall the soundcard in device manager, turn off the computer, then move the soundcard to another pci slot. Turn on the pc and wait for drivers to install - you might have to re-install soundcard drivers. Check again for IRQ conflicts.

With regards to onboard audio, there is ABSOLUTELY no way you can change IRQ assignments. That's why serious amateurs and pros use discrete soundcards, either internal (PCI) or external; and we don't use consumer oriented soundcards either, such as soundblasters, which are not intended for serious recording.

btw, what version of media player? I remember when someone's media player updated itself to ver. 10 and that's when the crackling started on his computer. I had him revert back to ver. 9 and he never had problems since.

mars, my guess is your pushing your pc to a soundcard setting that doesn't agree with your pc. example is baka naka 96KHz sampling rate ka. medyo magkakaproblem ang pc mo kung di nya kaya ang sampling rate.

try minimizing your soundcard load like lowering sampling rate. or decreasing buffers 'pag recording. or lessen your memory usage.

or better yet trash the media player and use something else like iTunes, Creative, etc.  :-D :-D :-D

hmmm ... i don't use my 2496 for regular playback (eg. iTunes, MediaPLayer, DVD, etc.). only use it when operating DAW. as i review your post, mukhang sa mixer or sa speakers na yung problem.  :?

i dont know.  :-D

frankly, di ako gumagamit ng windows media player. iTunes loyalist ako. i think windows software has too much of something that is not needed and ended up as a question mark point when using it. that is just an opinion.

I think sa drivers yan. May m-audio interface din ako dati and ang problem naman niya, may pause in beetween tracks sa playback ng itunes. I'm using itunes kasi for my sequenced parts, and syempre para segue yung mga fast songs ko, walang gaps sa umpisa at ending ng file. Pag playback ko sa itunes nung mga files, nagkakaron ng gap yung mga songs sa m-audio interface. Crucial sa drummer ko to dahil di kabit yung last beat ng outgoing song to the first beat ng incoming song.

Nag update ka na ba ng drivers ng m-audio? May mga ininstall ka ba new apps?
