Neutrik plugs and Quantum/Klotz cables: Do you recommend it?
« on: April 26, 2006, 11:59:28 PM »
guys, i just thought about this since the other cable thread started to get nasty (yet again). is it a good idea to buy customized patch cables with Neutrik angled plugs and Quantum/Klotz for my pedalboard or should i stick to the standard Peavey patch cables being sold at Audiophile? George L's and Planet Waves DIY cables aren't available here, so i guess this is the next best thing. the pedalboard i'm assembling has eleven stompboxes by the way; it's quite a lot so i guess this becomes a factor too. please post your recommendations. thanks! :)

those peavey patch cables are sturdier than they look. i've been mangling three of these for more than a year now. buo pa.

i also like neutrik plugs for my guitar cables. i neither know nor care about how they affect tone, but i love the way the contacts are protected inside the plug.

i use the exact same stuff. i haven't had a peavey patch cable go bad.

well, not yet. feeling ko malapit na rin. yung pedalboard ko rin kase ndi mashadong stable. darn automotive carpeting won't stick. my pedals are sliding around so much that it's either i fill it up with stuff so that things don't slide around, or tinatanggal ko yung ibang cables. hassle nga lang pag next gig.

so kung properly secured yung pedals mo, the peaveys are probably fine. kaya lang you might have a need for a longer patch.

stay away from those dinosaur patch cables. kabibili ko lang nung saken, mejo palyado na yung iba.  :?

neutrik/klotz cables are worth it, IMO. probably the best you can find that's readily available.

Tama!

Hehehehe.

ok yun neutrik plugs - mukhang matibay, ok din yun plug nya once its its connected to a guitar/effects, madali pa i-solder

+1 on the above recommendations. i use Neutriks too but i'm not sure what the cables are! they've been with me for years.  wanna try those klotz, etc....  for pedalboard i use Boss or generic Lazer lang. maikli lang naman so i don't worry about signal degradation.

aaahhh.... refreshing to see a discussion on cable that considers its other important properties and the real needs of musicians. :-)

is this better?  more insulation daw from noise since to use it as a guitar cable, mono lang, so yung isang di gamit na 'channel', acts as extra protection from noise.  ?

off topic, pero sige. hehehe.

yung fender california cables seem fine to me, pero i know a few owners saying the solder joints get loosened. the more expensive model is more durable, i think. for patch cables, i don't know. i've never seen or used one.

Ang instrument-level nagva-vary from very low mic-levels to large line-levels.

For the money, OK ang Klotz. It softens the sound a bit.

i see, thanks. but for pedalboard purposes, di naman siguro ganun kalaki yung degradation diba? i added a pickup booster din nga pala so kahit papaano pwede macompensate yung signal loss. pero yun nga, tone pa rin yung mababawasan..

Boss,

Hindi ko masabi dahil unique ang setup mo.  In theory it should not matter much but you never know until you try.
