Phil Collins reveals he will never drum again due to spine injury

Phil Collins yesterday revealed he will never play the drums again because of a spine injury.

The Genesis star says he can no longer even hold his drum sticks because sitting at a kit is too painful.

Phil, 58, said: "I've got a condition that means I can't play any more. After playing drums for 50 years, I've had to stop.

"Obviously I'm very sad about it. My vertebrae has been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in.

"It comes from years of playing. I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful.


"I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through.

But don't worry, I can still sing."

The news will be heartbreaking for Phil's millions of fans worldwide.

A friend said: "He is devastated as drumming is everything to him. It's how he made his name and it set him on the road to superstardom.

"But drumming has been getting more and more painful and he decided enough was enough and called it a day. He has to put his health first."

parang nabasa ko sa DRUMHEAD magazine ung ganyang condition, though I'm not sure exactly kung ito ung sakit nia.. cervical disc herniation.. condition is ung vertebra sa spine due to constant pressure (pagkaupo in a certain position) experiences constant pressure, nangyayari ung shock absorber ng vertebra (jelly like substance inside - nucleus pulposus) nag-leak out due to bigat ng katawan kapag nakaupo lalo na sa lower back area.. tendency disk herniation sa spinal cord.. correct me if i'm wrong na lang.. 

nakakalungkot ang galing pa naman din nia... sana drummers should take this as a lesson to consider positioning as a major factor not only in playing but also for health reasons din..

patay! 3 years na nga ko may problema sa lower back e. hindi na gumaling kahit anong therapy, chiropractor at hilot! baka maging ganyan din ako. nooooooooo!!!

mga tsong wag kayo magpanic...wala pa naman siguro sa tin yung kasing edad ni phil at kasing tagal na nya pumalo.

remember, more than 40 years na syang professional drummer at malay mo kung ilang taon pa sya nagsimulang tumugtog. matagal bago lumabas yung injury
