help pumili ng power supply (PSU)
« on: October 06, 2009, 09:34:24 PM »

There are generic (Dynamo, Powermax, hell, even CDRKing!) 450W and 500W PSUs for under 1k, but I don't recommend them.

Wattage isn't everything. In fact, I'm sure the 450W rating on generic PSUs is at 25'Celsius. At 40-50'C, which most rigs WILL reach, their output wattage will be reduced to something like 280-350W. Furthermore, you have to worry about the amperage on the voltage rails. Good graphics cards are especially dependent on high current ratings.

Add another 1k to your budget bro, and get at least a Hec Raptor 500 or an AcBel 510. Kung namatayan ka ng PSU dati, it's likely that buying a generic is a dangerous band-aid solution. It might work now, but it also might compromise your components in the future.

I agree with what Sjon014 said.

I just bought an AcBel 560watt PSU (true wattage is around 510 watts) it's a bit expensive but would you really trust your Php 5,000+ Video card and your Php 8,000+ Processor to a Php 500 PSU? If your PSU explodes (one that I have witnessed quite a bit in the past) you run the risk of blowing up your PC's main components.

I say, invest on a decent PSU, it will cost a bit more at first but you'll probably be using it for your future PC, so, I'd say it's all worth it.

yung dynamo daw na psu ok kahit mura?
kalahati sya ng presyo ng branded psu eh.

Coolermaster Xtreme Power 390W  = P1,600.00
Dynamo 450W dual fan = P850.00

No no parin sa Dynamo. I've seen Dynamoes explode.
There's supposedly a mod for the Dynamo to make it more reliable pero hassle kasi ipapagawa mo pa.

Ano ba ang videocard mo? If it's midrange or weaker (around 9600GT/4670 levels), you might not need 450W. In that case, kung talagang wala kang budget, get the Coolermaster 390.

http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine <- Try this. It's a rough online computation of the wattage you need (minus amperage ratings)
I was surprised to see that my Intel Core Q9300 and HD4850 plus three HDs, four fans, four CCFLs, and lots of USB devices - only required 355W.

I still think you should shell out 2k and get that Hec or Acbel, if just for the extra reliability+headroom.

Same here. I never thought my Rig only consumes less than 300 watts.
