Need help po, kasi parang na-stuck na ko sa "level" na to ng guitar playing ko. I want to improve pa, pero di ko po alam anong aaralin at uunahin. I can play some finger picked songs and rhythm songs, few solos(yung madadali lang). Nagagamit ko narin naman yung mga hammers, slides, pull offs sa mga kantang aral na aral ko na. Sa ngayon po acoustic talaga focus ko, dahil wala naman akong electric guitar, tsaka gustong gusto ko talaga yung tunog ng acoustic e.
 Eto po yung ibang songs na madalas ko tugtugin:
     *so slow - freestyle
     *specially for you (sama yung maiksing solo)
     *more than words
     *tears in heaven
     *to be with you - mr. big (sama yung maiksing solo)
     *some Jason mraz songs
     *time won't tell , all you need to say - april chase (acoustic ver.)
     *ulan - Johnoy danao
     *unwell (sama yung intro)

Base mo sa mga info na nabanggit ko  'bout my guitar playing, may ma aadvise po ba kayo kung pano ko pa ma iimprove yung pagtugtog ko?  Parang naliligaw na kasi ako, di ko na pano simulan pag improve sa pagtugtog ko.

you dont seem to have a specific goal. di mo naman pwedeng sabihin "gusto kong gumaling" without defining what "gumaling" means specifically.

gusto mo mag improve sa phrasing? groove? clean execution of techniques?

*chops - motor skills related; speed, stamina, rhythmic independence, precision/clean technique, etc.

*groove - timing, ability to pick up different rhythmic patterns

*imagination - ability to write and arrange songs

*theory - ability to communicate and understand musical ideas visually and verbally

Just keep learning new songs and try to copy as accurately as possible. That's the only way to learn. After several years you will have your own style and playing new songs will be second nature to you.

At lagyan ng "personal touch" madalas po kasi pag may tinutugtog ako, may naglalarong melody sa isip ko na tingin ko ay bagay sa kanta pero di ko po ma-execute o play yung melody na yon. Gusto ko rin po ma improve yung techniques ko.

So far, yan po mga goal ko. Thanks po dun sa pag breakdown nyo narealize ko kung alin ang gusto ko iimprove.
So, base po sa naset kong goals san po ako mag start? Ano pong kelangan kong aralin? Thanks!

With that one, you already have a headstart. At least you already have a melody in mind. Kapain mo na lang siya. Wag mong madalin na makuha mo siya agad unless if it's something that you need to really hurry it up kasi may tugtog kayo. Pero in my case, I just take my time.

I have a friend who doesn't know anything about theory but he can do impromptu jam. But I still suggest you to learn theory like intervals, scales and the likes. Simulan mo sa pentatonic scale.

improvisation. Try to learn the song you want and improvise and extend the guitar solo on it, laro-laruin mo at tiyak na lalawak pa ang isipan mo for the next note you will put on.

Kung acoustic player ka bro, makinig ka ng mga MYMP na luma tska Paolo Santos. gaya ng sabi ng mga kaforum natin, expand your song selection. tugtog lang ng tugtog. kasi, some techniqeus will come to you habang nagaaral ka ng iba't ibang songs.

tama rin si bro incx. set ka ng goal. ano ba ang definition mo ng magaling na. set mo yun, then aim for it.

Try to search for the key muna. Usually sa mga acoustic songs, nasa isang key lang din naman yung mga kanta. Once you've already known the key, you can now play the scale of that particular key. Playing the pentatonic scale is the safest for now. Then expand it later.

Yes learn the scales, learn also the structures of a song likes Intro, Verse, Refrain, Chorus, Bridge, Adlib, Outro.
Make sure you learned the song from start to finish. Practice by ears, make sure you're in tune.

Pero minsan, di ko feel gawing plakado yung solo kaya nag iimprovise na lang ako ayon sa "feel" ko. Still, kung mahirap talagang siprahin, I'll resort to youtube and tabs.

Experiment ka lang. I suggest you go to the "The Music School" subforum. Marami kang matututunan doon.

When I learned to understand scales, intervals, etc., mas madali na para sa akin hanapin kung anong chords or kung pano ang takbo ng solo ng isang kanta. Pero minsan, di ko feel gawing plakado yung solo kaya nag iimprovise na lang ako ayon sa "feel" ko. Still, kung mahirap talagang siprahin, I'll resort to youtube and tabs.

Experiment ka lang. I suggest you go to the "The Music School" subforum. Marami kang matututunan doon.

I'll start with scales, magbabasa din ako ng konti tungkol sa theory at mag gigitara ako araw araw. Babalik ako pag nakita kong nag improve na ko tsaka pag naligaw ulit ako. 

Tips naman sir kung anong topics ng theory yung makakatulong sakin.  Thanks po!

Brad tip ko lang, take one step at a time. Baka kasi kapag nagbasa ka at yung medyo advance na yung content nun, maguluhan ka lang at madiscourage. Iwasan mo muna sigurong magbasa about modes, sweep picking, and the likes.

Magsimula ka sa fundamentals like the Major Scale and the pentatonic scale tapos try to understand how a chord is derived from these scales. Once you feel that you already have a full grasp of these scales, that's when you can move on to modes which should not take that long (understanding the concept behind modes is somewhat basic so you better get to it as soon as you're done with the more basic ones)

  tama yon !!   dapat may goal tayo- parang ganito - inisip mo lang gusto mo umangat skills mo or mag upgrade ka ng genre- pero kung wala kang goal at wala sa puso mo ginagawa mo - magiging useless talga - parang ma ii-stock ka talaga sa isang position - or try mo rin bro -mag vacation - free your mind muna -baka naman kasi stressfull ka na - tapos try mo lang manood ng mga aspiring movies all about band- malay mo may mapulot ka -    basta pag mahal mo ginagawa mo may magandang resulta -  pag dating sa learning  wag ka lang po sana umsa lagi sa tab-use your ears & emagination -ika nga , little by little  tataas din skills mo - mahirap din kasi na biglaiin mo sarili mo na gusto mo talaga gumaling -kakalabasan non - hinog ka sa pilit-   tip lang salamat

If this is your goal in the first place, try to just Listen and Listen anything, any genre, and ideas that you think will make you improve.
Second is Ear Training. wag muna magbukas ng youtube tutorials and tabs sa net, just you and your music player. Based on experience dun ko nafamiliarize ang mga notes, dun ko din natutunang i translate sa guitar yung mga naiisip ko at ease.

Kung sa tingin mo yun ang goal and accomplishment mo if ever, stick ka muna dun and aralin mo muna yun
If hindi ka pa ready sa scales or wala pa sa interest and hindi pa yun yung "goal" mo, stick muna sa Ear Training.

you just need to branch out, listen to other guitar-based bands or genres.. listen to folk as well puro acoustic yun, bands like America, Eagles, etc.. yung mga songs na tinutugtog mo na, try to figure it out note for note, you mentioned "more than words" aralin mo yung adlib bago matapos yung song para ma-challenge ka.. if you want to improvise and use your ideas, then just play, wala naman talagang rules eh, if it sounds good to you then its good then.. tama yung ibang tips na wala munang youtube o tabs, mas tatalas ang ears mo kung "oldschool" method ka..
