Help in building a home recording studio...
« on: December 05, 2009, 10:51:35 PM »
Mga Sirs...

I have budget of P250,000

Mga equipments to buy?

If you have P250,000

How would you build your recording studio?

Thanks po for the help

Uy okay na yan ha.

But you have to be more specific muna. What capabilities do you expect your recording studio to have ?

The heart of a recording studio consists of the DAW, software, mikes, interface and reference monitors. Set your sights on these first.

Then of course there are the instruments and amps that support them.

Take BAMF's advise. Decide on what you want for the room. It then becomes a balance between sound treatment and gear. If it's strictly home recording, how many people will you accommodate? Will you have a separate vocal booth? Remember that a small room can only take so much people, gear and sound treatment. Of course, larger rooms mean more expenses. Then there's the small things like electrical distribution, and air conditioning. These things add up fast.

Thanks sa mga advice sirs.

Gusto ko sana yun room maging maganda quality ng acoustics pero on a tight budget lang kase ako.

Sa mga instruments and amps no problem kase i have a soundsysem rental business.

Thanks ulit.

Again it will depend. kung multiple input, kakailanganin mo ng mid to medyo high end na interface:

delta1010, ok na yan for simultaneous recording.

kung may mixer ka na, as you mentioned, pwede na rin pero inputs will be direct to the interface, then individual outs to mixer...

SOFTWARE: your choice... what's your platform? saan ka convenient?

MONITORS: mag-SAMSON ka, or Dyna Audio...

DAW machine: Core2Duo, 4GB RAM, Asus or Gigabyte motherboard

Interface : Alesis Multimix 16FW or Multimix 16 USB2.0 (para magkasama na mic pres mo saka interface). Okay din ang Delta 1010LT like my setup, but it will require multiple mic preamps. Padala ka na lang from the US. Check mo sa ebay may 2nd hand na ganyan, lalabas mga 30+k pero sulit yan kung calculate mo mic pres or recording mixer+interface (caveat lang, you can only do Protools on M-audio interfaces)

Monitors: Samson Resolve 65a or 80a or KRK Rokit 5 or bigger. Okay din ang Alesis or M-audio Studiophile BX-5 or Samson Mediaone 5a. Of course upgrade ka na lang if you can afford something better.

Mikes: Samson or Nady Drum mike kit. Multiple SM57s (siguro 3 is enough). At least 1 LDC, perhaps a Behringer C1, or other MXL microphones (just got me an MXL 990 murang-mura hehehe).

Siguro mayroon ka nang mike stands.

Snake Cables, >10 sana na jacks

Software: kanya-kanya na yan. Personally I use Cubase because some VST plugins I need don't work on Sonar. Pero Sonar and Protools are also great platforms. Di bale, you can always "Try before you buy" nyuk nyuk. I meant...trial versions. :-D

You'll also need a headphone amp for the recording artist and at least a pair of low-leakage headphones. Headphone amp from Samson is OK (thats what i got) ditto with from Behringer. Sony closed-back headphones or DJ Headphones are great. Kung talagang nagtitipid ka, go to CDR-King and get some of their closed backs. Teka you might need more than one kapag may nagsasabay na magrerecord.

Then maybe you'll want a control room device like the Samson C-Control, or at least a "talkback" mixer which can be a small mixer like the Behringer UB502 or 802.

Those are my recos...you can already assemble your recording studio from these stuff. The rest are accessories that you can add to your setup.
