have you tried Alesis D4 or DM5 kinda old but much easy to use, you can even make your own trigger to put on your practice pads, sounds great...
i've tried it on acoustic drum set and works great...

I'm on a TD4. Quite happy. It's great for practice since I can't make much noise where I stay. If you get sick of the sound, easy to change it up. It's got rim shots, bell, ping and whatever you can think of... :-) the mesh can be replaced and easy to add drum pads. Though there's nothing like playing on an acoustic as well... Hope this helps.
