Question about BOSS tu-3
« on: May 08, 2010, 04:55:53 AM »
I was thinking of buying a tuner and the boss tu-3 looked promising and I've recently just started building my collection of pedals but I don't have a PSU yet. Would the tu-3 be also good for supplying power to my other 3 pedals(mt-2,ge-7,dd-7)?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning on building my own pedal board and since the tu-3 already has the power supply feature, I thought of using it as my main power supply for my other pedals via daisy chain. Is this a good idea?

Comments and suggestions welcome :)

I think the TU-3 is not a power supply in its own.. you still need a power supply or adaptor to power it.. yung feature niya na pwedeng magpower ng ibang pedals, meron din nun ang Korg Pitchblack at TC Electronics Polytune..

basically, parang ginagawa mong splitter or 1-spot yung TU-3.. kumbaga, ganito.. from a single power supply na magpopower sa TU-3, pwede mo ishare yung power na yun sa ibang pedals with the DC jack nung TU-3 para sa DC chain or any DC cable pa..

in the end, kukuha ka parin ng power supply to power the TU-3 and a DC chain to link the power from the TU-3 to the other cables..

it can be good idea lalo na kung kaya isupply ng TU-3 yung sapat na current para sa mga gusto mong ipower na pedals.. i see meron kang DD-7, digital effects ay matakaw sa current.. so check kung kaya pa niya supplyan yun.. other than that, pwede yan..

pero my suggestion is, kuha ka nalang ng 1-spot to power them separately para makasigurado.. eventually, baka lumaki at dumami pa pedals mo to the point na hindi na masusupplyan ng TU-3 yung dapat na current..

it has got nothing to do with the performance of the pedal.. added feature lang talaga siya na pwede mo isplit or ishare yung voltage pero with a limited current supply.. hindi siya makakasira as long as you follow the guidelines.. lalo na yung current.. make sure that the current draw ng lahat ng pedals na ikakabit mo dun (ng naka-on) ay within the range or limit nung kaya iprovide ng TU-3.. otherwise, makakasama na talaga..

please allow me to answer.. the pitchblack is cheap.  :-) but in a good way.. it's got good features and built well for about half the price of the TU-3..
and it's black.

cool.. you're welcome.. pero take note, the pitchblack can only offer 200mA kung gagamitin mo siya to supply power sa ibang pedals.. so just make sure that all pedals are within that current consumption pag naka-on (mas mataas kasi current draw pag naka-on kesa pag naka-off, just to be on the safe side.).. if they are, then you're good to go with the pitchblack..  :-)

its better to use a psu or 1spot to power all your pedals

boss tu3 =not true bypass, it uses buffered FET bypass. some people swear that placing a tu3 before and after your chain will produce different results. also, old tu2 have poor buffer and is a tone sucker.

korg pitchblack = smaller, space saver, true bypass and kamukha ni KIT ng knight rider 8-)

all tuners claim they are more accurate, but actually its just a tuner :-P
