How to Properly connect these?
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:56:35 AM »
Dati po from Yamaha 24 Channel Mixer, diretso napo sa B3 powered speaker yung left/right channel and 2x B3sub yung mono-out nang mixer.

What is the best way to connect these new equipment,
1. EQ
2. Crossover
3. Compressor/Limiter
4. Sound Effects Processor

Sa Effects processor may konting idea na po ako, I read it somewhere here in the forum na sa aux sends ko siya ikabit. Yung EQ at Crossover na lang how to connect them from the Mainboard to the FOH at Sub.

TIA at God bless.

 good day sirs! tanong lang sir jolam, isa lang ba yung 31-band EQ mo or dual channel na tig-31-Band? at yung Crossover nyo po ba eh  dual-channel na 3-way din? kung tig-dual channels sila, from main-out ng mixer(channel 1 and 2) kabit nyo sa IN(Ch1 and Ch2) ng EQ then to the crossover and comp/limiter before going to your powered speakers.

 sa Crossover, usually sa mid/high Output mo kukunin yung signal papuntang comp/limiter before going to main speakers. tapos adjust mo na lang crossover frequency kung pwede. pakinggan mo sir response ng B3 nyo kasi baka magkulang sa mids or sumobra naman sa highs. kung meron din po "Low Sum Out" yung crossover, doon nyo na lang kunin yung signal papuntang Sub.

 this is just how I would chain this. I know our Gurus here have better ideas.  :-D

 sana maka-tulong..  :-D

At least mayroon na akong general idea how to do it this coming Sunday…

Maraming salamat at God bless.

 pero to be safe, pwede mo rin ilagay yung comp/limiter before the crossover para "covered" lahat;
 mixer > EQ > Comp/limiter > Crossover > Amp/Speakers.
 church nyo. :-)

Sir jojo, sa out ng crossover, ibig sabihin ba yung channel 1 will go out sa mid/high out and channel 2 sa low or sub-out ng crossover?

TY po ulit at God bless.

@jolam,

that's right...assuming that you can switch your Xover to 2way configuration...you have to remember this always that whenever you adjust ch1 Xover points...you need to adjust your ch2 Xover point just the same...Why?...its a Linkwitz riley filter...what ever you take out from the Mid/Hi should be added to your Low and vise versa.

but again it all depends on your taste of hearing...if you need to overlap Xing its ok, as long as they don't produce comb-filtering.

If you are in the house of worship...and most of the time it is not acoustically treated...you have to lessen those 250hz at 400hz until it's intelligible enough for the congregation...again it all depends, wall to wall distance, floor to ceiling, front to back...this is very important to know, these are your room modes or Standing waves...if you know this it will be very easy for you to point out your problem frequency that causing reverberation.

have a nice,
jojo

@hayewire

I assume that Mr. Jolam's sub is flat enough...he mention that he is in a house of worship, he will be needing all the equ'ing that he can get. But, if you want to shape your sub then put in an Eq...why not.

What freq. are going to shape if your sub are high-pass from 30hz and cut-off at 100hz and then Aux fed?

A-B anything will do as long as you don't clip them and always at unity gain.

Here's how i do my Drive rack.

from Mix-out to outboard FOH L/R EQ---Compressor---Crossover 90Hz above---EQ,s---Limiter's---Amp
from Aux6 to outboard FOH Crossover 90Hz---30z High-pass Filter---Limiter---Amps

have a nice day,
jojo

Sir Jojo, very interesting input Sir! Thqank you!

Anything else (what we usually don't know) we need to remember in using active crossovers?
